Throwing my humanized Cars headcanon into the world, because why not!!

Lightning’s accident was bad, and honestly, even worse than Doc’s or King’s. It’s kind of a miracle he survived at all, so there’s no way he comes out of it unscathed yk?

He might end up with a broken rib, a shoulder injury, and a serious leg injury (keep this one in mind). Some things heal. Others don’t... Chronic pain, lingering weakness, his leg occasionally going numb and generally stuff that makes driving harder and more dangerous.

After the events of the 3rd movie, I think he does one or two more races out of pure principle. He earned that much after the Sterling incident. But he’s grown, and he’s self-aware enough to notice the changes, like how he’s not as fast, his reaction time isn’t what it used to be, and his body doesn’t always cooperate.

So he races a little longer just for the love of the game… and then retires. Not at all bitterly, just realistically. He steps back and becomes Cruz’s coach instead!

Anyway, so all this buildup is just to say: I fully believe he uses a cane sometimes when the pain flares up. And of course he makes it cool- custom cane, flames at the bottom and all. It bothers him at first, but eventually he owns it and folds it into his style and sense of self. >:D

(Also yes, I like to fuck up my favorites. Break their legs, give them trauma, the usual so of course McQueen wasn’t spared.)
