Finally took Robin to IKEA today!
I've had this trip planned for a long time, almost an year. I was in an IKEA store with my partner when we got the call from the government about the adoption referral. I'd been waiting for that call for almost four years by that point. May 31. We were in IKEA because we thought we had at least one more month (if not more; four years!) and were looking to figure out furniture. We bought her home on June 14. My idea ever since has been that we will go to IKEA every year for her Homecoming Day to celebrate. We didn't do it on Robin's actual Homecoming Day this year because we weren't very sure if she'd enjoy it so young, but she's become so independent and incredible at communicating her preferences in the past two months that we felt comfortable going now.
Also we needed a garlic press. And a knife. Because my husband broke the good one we had (like, in half, not at the handle, because he's He-Man or something, I don't know). Also, a laundry basket, an office chair and some plates. You know, IKEA stuff.
Anyway, we all had a blast. The food was good, and it was so fun, she enjoyed being in the trolley so much and called it a pram because she is so smart now, it's ridiculous. Of course, we took her to the soft toy section, and, of course, she chose Lilleplutt, the cat (she is actually sleeping next to me with the cat next to her right now). Letting her choose was so much fun because she was greatly intrigued by the lion and the octopus, did not like the snake at all, and kept making buzzing sounds whenever she saw the bee, but the cat won very decisively, and she did not like that we had to give it to the cashier for them to check it in. I wonder which soft toy she'll pick next year.
