All characters are self-insert characters. They are you a little to the left, or a particular piece of you dialed up to 11, or the you that you would have been if the path of your life had angled just slightly differently, or you if you never learned this one important thing.
Every character is part of you, but more than that every character starts with a piece of you, big or small, it’s you in one way or another at the beginning. There’s nothing wrong with that. In fact it’s essential. That seed of you, that lives in them, it’s what gives them life, breath and blood and bone. And then you tend it, growing it, shaping them along paths you could never have walked nor imagined for yourself. Until they become someone else entirely. A wholly fictional character. But also you, a little bit, somewhere in there in the heart of themselves.
Every character is a self-insert character. It’s only a matter of degrees how much of yourself there is in them when you finally put them out into the world. Stop worrying so much about self-inserts. Worry more about putting that little you into a story that will shape them into a big, beautiful character.
Now you know.
The Marauder's Map and why the books failed to address the issues it raised
It infuriates me that people always seem to consider the Marauder's Map as something "cool" and boyish. To me, it is the ultimate tool to bully and abuse - a violation of all privacy and safety, the ultimate object of control for the abusers. I cannot see many things that would be more dangerous than this inside a boarding school, and I cannot even begin to imagine how Snape and other students must have suffered from it, unable to hide from those who could attempt murder or sexually assault them without being expelled. I don't care if this takes place in a magical world - everyone has a right not to be restlessly tracked. The fact the matter is never addressed within the books, and the Marauders seem to have received no real punishment (in a normal and proper school, this would get students expelled) when this clearly is psychological harassment and stalking, is another example of how unsafe Hogwarts is for all students that do not have the privilege to belong to Gryffindor, or come from a wealthy background, thus being at the mercy of bullies like the Marauders. And the fact the narrative doesn't point out this fact is highly disturbing - on the contrary, the map is always talked about in a positive way:
"This little beauty's taught us more than all the teachers in this school."
It is still an object of pride for Lupin, who gives it to Harry at the end of his third year. We know for a fact he never understood, or wanted to understand, the seriousness of his actions - the fact is this time, his views on the map aren't contradicted by anything in the narrative (in the contrary to the bullying of Snape, seen for what it was by Harry).
"While on the run in looking for Horcruxes, Harry would often look at the map to see what Ginny Weasley, his love interest, was doing, which would hint that the map works from any location."
We know that Harry and Ginny's relationship is a positive one with shared love in a particular context; but still such activity should never be romantized. None of the partner should have the power to stalk their loved one: it gives a disturbing idea of "entitlement" to the other.
"Eventually, James Sirius Potter probably stole the map from his father's desk."
Finally, the map is again presented as an object of enjoyment which provides mere fun - according to JK the map certainly made its way back to Hogwarts, in the hands of a James Sirius nonetheless (I mean, this is a symbol as a whole). I think that shows how she never understood the seriousness of what this object implies - because the use of the map is clearly, and definitely, written and talked about as positive and even funny.
Thus it is also talked about as something entirely positive within the fandom, just as bullying and trauma are minimized by many people - and to accept the idea that stalking is okay, another tool for "pranks", is worrying. The map is, on the contrary, a symbol of what the Marauders had and looked for during their school years: absolute power.
Yes! So much of this! The Marauders’ Map is the ultimate stalker’s dream. It’s not cute or charming or funny. It’s horrifying.
Severus and Aurora Sinistra
“You won’t even stay for dinner?”
“No.” Squinting at the bright lights of the Halloween celebration, Snape wiped the paint from his shoulder.
To be pranked by his own students would have been disastrous for any new teacher but it was even worse for someone like him, who was already on thin ice and hated by most of the staff as a former criminal. He’s been made a complete fool.
And not just that, he’s been made a complete fool in front of the woman who looked absolutely incredible, in the dress of her own creation which she called “The gown of Goddesses Nut and Nyx, Sky and Night”.
But now the face of the Goddess was also strained with desperation.
“I am sorry… I should have…done something… You are worthy of more than such treatment. At least, take this. Please.”
A small blue envelope in her hands. Snape finally noticed it. And Aurora noticed his hesitation. She said he is worthy of more.
It was a vision of paradise, of different life free of fear. It could be his life. If not for the smallest detail…
If only he…wasn’t the person who was taught “best ways to torture a muggle” just a couple of months ago.
The vision flashed before his eyes and disappeared. Before he came to his senses, he realized it was actually Aurora, who has left in anger and sadness.
But, to his surpirse, little blue envelope still made its way into his palm somehow.
(I am still posting commissions I finished before I closed them!
It’s a commission for @not-socoherent ! Thank you so much for your patience! ! I am sorry if it’s too angsty! I don’t know why I made it that way! First, I wanted something romantic like a dance but then I realized that it would be too out of character for Snape. I probably made things worse, if so, sorry, haha! :)
I don’t ship but I like it ❤️
As a news station it is VERY unprofessional to block someone because they call you out on your blatant lies and discrimination
Slytherin: My idea of flirting is being as sarcastic as possible and seeing if they can handle me
The funniest thing about Snape for me is that he’s ridiculously competent, but at the same time always ready to sink down to the same level of a 13 year old.
He’s competent, extremely so as a Head of House. Under him Slytherin had a six year winning streak despite the fact that he doesn’t award his own students one single point. His approval is entirely shown exactly by not discounting points. He’s not more biased towards his own than the other Heads, whenever he docks points it’s in small amounts (5 or 10 at a time, unless it’s serious things). His detentions are boring or grueling but never dangerous. He cares about his quidditch team enough to reservate the pitch for them in advance so they can train in peace.
On the other hand, he butts heads with Harry on the same level you’d expect for another teenager, by snipping and snarking, and barking his head off (but really, no bite, all bark). He’s petty in his choice of detentions, he needles when he sees the chance, among other things. I don’t remember him behaving like this with any other student (no, Neville doesn’t count, his treatment of him was never too different from the other Gryffindors except on the day he warned Lupin about him, but I’d wager this has more to do with Lupin than with Neville), so it might be that he really fucking regresses when he’s near Harry because, y’know, he’s a mess and really needs a therapist.
Honest Advice On Relationships And Life In General By This Balloon Artist
"I try to make commentary about, or poke fun at, social media. The balloons were a social media trope often used in bridal showers and gender reveals, so they were a natural progression of that idea. I love the contrast of profound, funny, or challenging quotes spelled in silly balloons. And since another common cliche is endless selfies, I tend to put myself in most of the photos. They often make people cringe, but the cringe is the point,“ Michael told Bored Panda.
I love these so much. Needed to hear more than one of them.

Cats who can’t figure out walls [x]
PLEASE TAKE YOUR CAT TO THE VET IF YOU SEE THEM DOING THIS BEHAVIOR OVER TIME.
It’s called “head pressing” and it occurs in dogs and cats.
Head pressing is characterized by the compulsive act of pressing the head against a wall or other object for no apparent reason. This generally indicates damage to the nervous system, which may result from a number of varying causes, including prosencephalon disease (in which the forebrain and thalamusparts of the brain are damaged), or toxic poisoning.
