Boston places: Influential Men Chapter 4

This is a new series of posts about Boston locations that might be readers of my Heated Rivalry fic Influential Men!

This post is about Beacon Street, a major street in Boston. There aren't any spoilers for the fic other than the location of Shane's home and where he likes to go jogging. :)

From Chapter 4: "That evening, Shane drives to his favorite jogging spot: the Chestnut Hill reservoir all the way down Beacon Street, half an hour from his apartment near the State House and the Common."

Beacon Street is super long, so saying that you live "on Beacon Street" could mean a lot of different things. Beacon Street starts in the very historic, expensive, central area on the right side of this map, and goes on westward waaay out to the edge of the city.

Some of Beacon Street is marked here in red. Shane lives "near the Common," at the the top right quadrant of the map. You can see the Chestnut Hill reservoir on the lower left side of the map, underneath where it says "Boston College."

I chose to give Shane an apartment on Beacon Street because in the Heated Rivalry book Ilya gives Shane an address on "Beacon"! Fun fact, though, the address Ilya gives Shane is a fake one that, based on its number, would be all the way down near that exact reservoir, which doesn't seem realistic to me at all. That's way more of a college student/average person residential area, and it's nowhere near the night life Ilya would want, either.

In my fic, Shane's apartment is located on Beacon Street in the neighborhood called Beacon Hill, facing the Common, since I imagine he'd like to go jogging in the Common sometimes. He's not going to living in a sleek, super-modern apartment building. It will be something like these brick/stone buildings on the right. Don't be fooled, these homes are undoubtedly mind-bogglingly expensive.

He can cross the street and walk right into the Common.

So why does Shane like to jog around the Chestnut Hill Reservoir rather than the Common or on other nearby green space? Simply because it's quieter and more peaceful down there, and it's a bit more out in nature.

Tom Brady famously also had a penthouse in an apartment building on Beacon Street, but his home was further down the street in Back Bay (also marked on the map). Back Bay is THE most expensive/fancy area of Boston, but I intentionally didn't want Shane to live there because I just liked the vision of him by the Common better, and also he needs to be as close to TD Garden as possible lol.
