Velociraptor Awareness Day: Awareness of the Challenges and Problems in Raptor Ownership
Velociraptor, given it’s small size, fluffy body, and playful nature, may seem like the ideal pet. Since it is a solitary ambush predator, it’s much like what you would get if you combine a cat with a bird!
But, like with any pet, there are major challenges in caring for a Velociraptor. As a veteran owner, I am here to warn about some of the issues you must be prepared for in your home.
Velociraptor is a nesting animal! If you are lucky (or unlucky, depending on your point of view) enough to have a female animal as I have, it is likely that she will regularly build nests out of the various blankets and towels in your home - or even your clothes! Eggs are produced, mate or no mate, about once a year. For unfertilized eggs, simply let her brood the eggs until the incubation time has passed (about 1 month). At that point, she will accept the eggs as a lost cause, and eat them herself. Be sure to have enough nesting materials for her to use, lest your nanna’s blanket get laid upon!
If you want information on breeding your Velociraptor, ask @spirellity, who has been successfully rearing these animals for years.
Raptors are easily distracted by loud sights and sounds. Be sure to keep the sound of your television at an appropriate volume, and try to avoid bright flashes and startling imagery. Don’t be too alarmed, however, if your Velociraptor gets engrossed in whatever you’re watching! Rey in particular is fascinated with the popular show Gravity Falls, as shown above.
Velociraptor is an obligate carnivore and, as such, cannot digest plant material. Be sure to keep your Velociraptor on a raw-meat diet, utilizing various different types of animals as food. In fact, it’s often better to let your Velociraptor hunt! If you have the resources, try to build a pen in your backyard that will not let the raptor, or it’s prey, out. Release the raptor with mice and other rodents and watch her hunt!
Even though they’re obligate carnivores, you have to be careful for them getting into your food! Cookies smell yummy whether or not you should have them. Raptors aren’t as deadly allergic to chocolate as some other animals, but still, I quickly got Ray out of this situation. Don’t let the raptor into the cookie jar!
Velociraptor is a curious animal. As such, you want to keep your valuables and belongings out of reach! Ray here has gotten into @plokool‘s Star Wars novels, and has completely messed up the order! We’re lucky she hasn’t ripped out any pages. Or destroyed the wifi router.
Being ambush predators, Velociraptor can and will hide behind anything, especially when they are hungry and thus instinctually drawn to hunt. Ray here has hidden behind my Scottish flag, but luckily I saw her. Though they aren’t very inclined to hunt their humans, still be on guard for the sharp claws if you suddenly cannot find your raptor!
Velociraptor, like all animals, loves to go outside! Be sure to take your raptor on regular walks for exercise and enrichment. But definitely use a leash! Otherwise unfamiliar sights and smells will distract your raptor and lead you on an unfortunate chase.
Your raptor is going to want to sleep in the bed with you. While I’m sure this is a tempting prospect, you want to avoid that. Raptors kick naturally in their sleep and you will probably be on the receiving end of that prospect. In addition, you want to establish a hierarchy with your raptor - and allowing her in the bed with you will probably destroy that system. Make a good, small bed for your raptor, much like that for a large dog. She’ll thank you for it in the end.
Raptors are expert climbers. Ray here has managed to get on top of my fridge. It could have been a lot worse - thanks to wing assisted inclined running, they can run up vertical surfaces and get as high as they want. Try to keep the tops of various cabinets (and refrigerators! and closets! and shelving!) clean and free of things you don’t want wrecked by your pet. And free of things that can wreck her!
While this is all very overwhelming, I will say that a raptor is a very rewarding and wonderful pet. If you manage to keep her safe and happy, she will be a lifelong friend and companion!

I’m going to another protest today, this ones against the Muslim ban. I refuse to watch the same thing that happened to us happen again to our Muslim siblings.
The back says “Jews against the Muslim ban”

Everything is fluid. I love that the concept of “relationship anarchy” allows room for that. Without the need to hold on to love, I feel so much more love.

Gymnastics has come a long compared to that old footage, but this difference is particularly significant for black girls! Because they have never taken seriously our abilities! Just because the color of our skin is not what they want to see!
Simone Biles’s fantastic performance has been covered by many news outlets all these years! Now we can see the real difference!

ONIBI - making-of 8B graphite pencil and watercolours
Onibi is a 128 pages graphic novel inspired by our travels in Japan. It will be published by Issekinicho this october. We had only 6 month to draw the entire book so our days were busy, especially at the end. All the pages have been sent to the publisher right on time (1 day before the deadline) and we feel so relieved!
Now, it’s time to enjoy the last bit of Summer!
I AM SO READY TO ANALYZE LAPIS AND PERIDOT’S MEEPMORPS WITH MY MEEPMORP HISTORY DEGREE
lapis and peridot share an arte povera sensibility, but lapis is a psuedo-dada literalist (the leaf is a leaf, the baseball bat is a baseball bat) and peridot has much closer ties to assemblage and abstract expression sculpture, with their collaborative piece “Occupied” combines the fluxus action that we can see in peridot’s TV Sculpture (ref: Nam June Paik) and Peridot’s obvious dadaist influence to Duchamp’s Fountain. This culminates with lapis bringing the sculpture to action by literally turning the mass-produced identical toilets into a fountain.

god fucking bless, my head was filled with all-capitals “THIS EPISODE IS SO HIGH-CONCEPT” while watching it
(via @miaschwartz)
The fact that they are dadaists makes the their use of the term meepmorp SO MUCH BETTER. I feel like the dadaists would approve.

Part of me wants to save this for a Punday, but no.
Sweet, there’s a Freud one in here ;)

Giving Tumblr another go
Hey all (and none). I’ve resisted Tumblr for years, but I feel like the time has come to get into it. The Tumblr of today is a very different platform from what it was last time I used it, which was like 3 years ago :P Back then you couldn’t message people, couldn’t comment, could hardly integrate multiple forms of media into your posts. It was gross. But it’s all different now. I like the platform better - now it’s so easy to use that I don’t have an excuse to avoid it. I just wanna blog from my phone. Meanwhile the traditional blog platforms like blogger and wordpress are going the way of the dinosaur. So I’m gonna get back into this. But I’m an utter beginner. I have no idea how to make a good-looking tumblr or how to organize my content. This’ll be a fun learning process. Shall I have multiple blogs for multiple subjects? How much should each blog be tied to my name and official persona? How much should I repost and how much will be original? All these questions and mor shall be solved through trial and error on this, my new old blog.
Sewer alligator puppet show by Thomas Boguszewski In False Alligations, Teddy the weird orphan boy discovers that there are alligators living in the city's sewers, but the authorities will not believe him. When he goes into the sewers himself to investigate, he finds that things are not what they seem. I wrote, directed and performed in False Alligations in January 2014 as part of the Full Moon Puppet Show, organized by Liz Schacterle, at Open Eye Figure Theatre in Minneapolis. The January 25th performance featured Janet Skidmore as the narrator and playing guitar; Theo Goodell providing additional puppeteering and playing the toy xylophone; and Bob Helland on additional Guitar. I performed Teddy, ran the projector, and was the puppeteer behind the alligator king. Everybody had incredibly nice things to say about the show, and people liked it so much that we was invited to perform "False Alligations" again in September as part of the last Full Moon Puppet Show, during the Handmade Worlds Festival of Puppet Theatre, produced by The Puppeteers of America. (This time with Janet Skidmore reprising her roles, and Francisco Benavides and Jane Marshall providing additional puppetry)

Artists! If you’re done working for exposure and want real artistic opportunities to come to you, here are ten questions you should ask yourself.
Who am I? Hi, I’m Ryan. I run a little digital comics publisher called The Whole Story. Now, I ain’t some fancy worldwide conglomerate...
Super useful advice. I'm gonna rethink the way I do things on the web.

Abra-Ka-Deborah!
May 26 was the 2nd Annual Mini Comics Day, where cartoonists come to the Minneapolis Center for Book Arts and write, draw and print a mini-comic from 10:00-5:00. It was also my Mother's Birthday, so I dedicated my mini comic to her as a gift.
