I mean, of course I would be considering it, having dumb sewing ideas is basically 90% of my personality.

…oh wait no I went one further than considering it I did do it…

I ended up not going with the front fly closure, in part because the shortest opened ended metal zipper I could get was 40cm long and also TWELVE DOLLARS(!) but also because I got annoyed with trying to work out the equivalent of a waistband for the bust curve - this one has a button closure at the centre back but I think next time I would go to the effort of sewing a proper bra hook-and-eye closure because it is a bit hard to wrangle on and off.

(If you want one of your own, the pattern for mine was once McCalls M7937 before I re-did it to my personal preferences and to be a bikini top rather than an outerwear top, but view B is pretty much this except slightly longer and with straps that are, you know, not overalls.)

So, I’ve been pulled over a few times in my life. Not many, but a few. And I’ve also been in a couple of cars that got pulled over. And let me tell you, if you were actually doing something wrong, the officer doesn’t make any small talk, just straight into “I clocked you doing 70 in a 55.” The only time I’ve ever gotten the “do you know why I pulled you over?” was the time when I wasn’t doing anything wrong, and I got let go even though he insisted to the end that I was doing 87 in a 70 (white privilege at work).

“Do you know why I pulled you over?” is a trap. It means there’s a good chance the officer doesn’t actually have a good reason to ticket you, and is trying to get you to waive your 5th Amendment rights and incriminate yourself. If you make a guess, that’s a confession of guilt.

But there’s another trap, that I’ve heard of but haven’t yet experienced. It’s “do you know how fast you were going?” With that one, they’re hoping you’ll say no, because then they can name whatever speed they want – you just said you didn’t know how fast you were going, if you deny the speed they name then you’re lying to them.

Oh, I’ve had that one. Go with “yes.” Don’t give them a number, just say “Yes.” Then they still have to offer a number and you can deny it without contradicting yourself. They could just ask you, at that point, but that’s suspiciously similar to saying they don’t know, and they tend to avoid doing that.

It is time for me to weigh in on a very pressing matter of “Devil Went Down To Georgia” discourse, i.e., why Johnny wins.

It’s very simple:

a) the Devil summons up a band of demons, some of whom are equipped with electric guitars, which is clearly a breach of contract; and

b) Johnny actually plays 3 separate classic bluegrass tunes: “Fire on the Mountain”, “House of the Rising Sun”, and “Granny Will Your Dog Bite” plus an unnamed square dance tune (”chicken in the bread pan” is a common bit of square dance patter). In doing so, Johnny proves that he’s a better fiddler—not only are those tunes are technically difficult, but they demonstrate that Johnny is a musician in touch with his roots. The Devil plays a slick rock violin solo, but Johnny’s the one who knows what bluegrass is.

I think it’s also important to be gentle with ourselves. Lots of frustrating things in my life have come from not remembering shit, and I say to myself and others, “Obviously if it were really important, I would have remembered.” But that’s kind of mean, isn’t it?

I have been here, multiple times! By referring to the order as a “Little Rosa”, you don’t have to make as big a deal out of the fact that you’re seeking help.

And believe it or not, it gets better. Rosa’s also gives out sweatshirts to the homeless (or sells them to the general public) that has information on local soup kitchens and even computer training in the area, on an insert sewn inside the sweatshirt.
