i was gonna just leave this in tags but i felt i needed to add the picture: it's wild how people don't get how big iran is, obviously it's racism people just don't care and assume "ah must be a bunch of primitive desert huts" or whatever but like, imagine writing off this whole area as probably some desert because there's a desert in the middle and ignore the whole ocean and two mountain ranges and all the forests and whatnot like even if it was just as big as california that's pretty huge and diverse as climate and geography

i keep forgetting i can vent here. thankfully, i haven't told too many folks about my tumblr so i don't feel as though my words here will somehow be unleashed against me later.

sucks that i have that fear at all. but as an autistic person who has constantly been misunderstood and misrepresented, it makes sense why i do. plus the surveillance state we live in now, both on and offline.

an author mutual i met on threads in 2024 ("i'm queer and shy and don't have many friends" type post connected us. I should have known then lol) recently read & reviewed my novel - the review was kind, but the rating was 3 stars. 3 stars?! that's objectively mid, and drags down the rest of my star average. as someone with ONLY 7 reviews on that book, 3 stars is not a great factor for someone who "liked it, and would read the sequel"

i know its not my place as an author to read or engage with reviews by readers; but she was a mutual AND a fellow author AND knows how difficult it is for us indies to get views, reach, and readers. She knows better than (as an author) to leave a review less than 5 or 4 stars for a peer; at least, that's what I've been told over and over again - as an author, we DO NOT leave reviews on fellow indies work if it's less than 4 stars. If you DID NOT enjoy the book enough to rate it that way, you simply do not leave a review.

i already have some bum who left a 1 star on my amazon page bc they're friends with someone i had a falling out with last year. scummy shit I can't get removed. It just feels so gross to know i'm doing everything right and the best I can but STILL people seek to "humble" me for some imaginary beef in their head.

so unnecessary. obviously i unfollowed them everywhere bc i don't need unsupportive "acquaintances" (she bought my book from me, but not the new cover, well edited version; she got the cheap, old cover, misprinted copy...)

and i know i KNOW how this makes me sound but MAN i need these feelings and thoughts out of my head. plenty of people tell me my writing is good. maybe they're all lying. bc why won't they leave reviews that say that :(

in conclusion; if you're an author, or planning to become one, don't leave reviews for other small authors unless you truly enjoyed the book and will rate it as such; for big authors with publishing deals and thousands of reviews, do whatever you want. but for us indies, with less than 10 reviews in 2 years?????? BE KIND OR SAY NOTHING
