This was my character design final from last spring! I’ve improved a lot since then but I’m still proud of this. I’m definitely going to continue working on the story in the future so be on the look out for more...

The assignment was to create a family of characters who exist in the same world, and at least 2 must be related. The Queen and the Prince are not related to the Father and the Daughter, all who don’t have names yet...

The Crystal Guardian is an original fairytale (written by me) where people harvest magical crystals that allow the user to produce magic (primarily elemental) from objects like a wand or staff. But the people from this kingdom are such powerful sorcerers that they wear their crystals as a part of them, usually in the forms of jewelry.

Characters (L to R):

The Queen: The Queen rules her land as a benevolent leader. She is as stubborn as she is caring, as well as being the most powerful sorcerer in the kingdom’s history. 

The Prince: Being the Queen’s son, the prince has a lot to live up to. But being an optimist, he follows in her footsteps and begins studying magic. Unfortunately he fails because he tries too hard to be exactly like her instead of finding his own path. 

The Daughter: After her father restrained her from magical duels, she studies in private until she enters the annual sorcerer’s championship. Bitter and without the proper training she loses the challenge against the prince, as well as her arm and her ability to perform magic. She retreats to the sacred mountain where she guards the crystal caves, only allowing the worthy to pass.

The Father: Once the revered hand of the Queen and the second most powerful sorcerer in history, he returns years after the incident determined to restore his daughter’s honor, using any means necessary.

Topaz! Her transition to becoming a crystal gem would be her realizing she isn’t so special to YD which breaks her heart bc she’s a pretty elite gem, but she finds love through steven and the cg, but has a hard time coping with the hole left after losing her rank... who wouldn’t want control over armies across the stars?

 She ends up loving earth culture (and burritos). Without her armor and limb enhancers she’s not much shorter than Pearl, but much more athletic.

Neon Electra! She is the leader of The Rogues band and best friends with Bishop. She actually writes all the songs and Bishop ends up singing them because he has such a good voice. She plays an electric violin which eventually is weaponized like a stun baton. 

I have a playlist of songs that The Rogues play, and right now my main song for them is Cash Cash’s Overtime, where you hear both their voices (Bishop at 0:58 and Electra begins at 2:01).

Here’s one of my favorite character designs from this semester! 

In this world, entertainment is strictly censored. Bishop is a member of The Rogues band, and they can only play at underground clubs. He plays piano and sings most of the songs that they write. I imagine his singing voice is 100% Lewis from Mystery Skulls, and they play songs like Number 1 and Hellbent 

He does eventually get his keytar GUN to fight the forces that made their music illegal. He has to play it in order to fire!

It’s fusion time! I finally get to work on some personal art projects, meaning finishing up files upon files of gemsona doodles...

So here’s a fusion between Lady Emerald and Yellow Topaz! Together they create Vesuvianite. She has strong metaphysical powers like pyro and geokinetics, but she has nothing but good intentions and is quite playful. Fun fact: her voice is very strong and sometimes distorted because of her double gem placement on her neck.

Got my new desk set up today and immediately went to Rebels fanart mode thanks to Kimba and her Sabine hair color theories... here’s a quick wip before I leave for mega-con!
