Fooled Around and Fell in Love (Destiel Fanfic)
Out of reccomendation from a friend @supersecretlyinhumanthings I decided to post one of my fics on here. It’s my first on this site and I wanna see what feedback I get! This also needs improvements, but I’m too lazy to edit more right now.
So anyway, it’s a high school au that I had fun with. About 2100 words. Enjoy!
Cas's POV
"... great, so I'll see you Saturday." I overheard Dean say to Ashley, writing his name and number on her hand. Dean turned away from the tall, blonde girl and caught my eye. You idiot, I thought, looking down and speeding away from the bank of lockers Dean and Ashley had been talking by. He knows you overheard them. He knows... everything. I didn't even want to admit to myself about the giant crush I had on Dean Winchester. But Dean was completely straight, in fact, he had probably at least talked to every girl in this school; whereas I had spoken to a total of around five living beings at Sioux Falls High, including one squirrel who stole my sandwich.
Dean's POV
After I wrote my name and number on some girl's hand, I turned and saw a guy watching me. He had big blue eyes and black hair that was swept messily across his face. As he sped away, I thought I vaguely remembered him from biology, alone at the back of the classroom. His name was something weird like Crowley, that creepy goth kid. Before I could go after him, he got lost in the sea of students and the tardy bell rang. "God damn it." I whispered as I ran to history. I'd be in detention again.
The day crawled by, and I had to sit through detention before I could finally leave. I was speeding around a corner when I ran into the guy that had been watching me earlier. He had dropped all his stuff and was grabbing it from the floor when I bent down to help him. "Hey, I saw you earlier, right? What's your name?" He mumbled something I couldn't hear, so I asked, "What was it?"
"Castiel. Cas."He looked up and was blushing furiously, not saying a word. God, he had a crush on me, didn't he? Hell, why not? Girls were getting boring anyway.
I grabbed his wrist and he looked up again, trying to pull his wrist away. "Do you need a ride, Cas?" I asked, trying his name. "Cool name."
"Uh, thanks, no, um, I'm fine, really, it's ok." Cas stuttered. He was kinda cute. His messy black hair fell in his eyes and he nervously pushed it to the side.
"You sure? You've got a ton of stuff. Let me give you a ride home." Without a reply from him, I grabbed his papers, books, and binder and helped him off the floor.
I led him out to the student parking lot where a few beaten down cars and a motorcycle were scattered across the pavement. " Can you guess which one is mine?" Cas just gulped so I couldn't help but chuckle. "You'll be fine. I can even hold your stuff under the seat, cool or what?" I said, showing him the bike that I couldn't be more proud of. "You might want this." I tossed him a helmet that he gratefully accepted and secured on his head.
Once we were both on the motorcycle, I revved the engine and yelled above the roar, "You'll want to grab my waist, it'll be safer." When he didn't move, I hit the gas and we sped off down the pavement. His nervous hands immediately wrapped around my middle, holding on very tight. I just threw back my head and laughed, enjoying the thrill of the ride.
Cas's POV
Even though I never expected to be riding a motorcycle, and it was very dangerous, I wasn't paying attention to that. I was riding a motorcycle with Dean Winchester, the same Dean Winchester I had watched from the back of class and through the hallways, the same Dean Winchester who had never noticed me. I could feel him laugh as we turned a corner, me holding on tighter as we never slowed down.
"Where do you live?" He yelled above the engine.
"Take a left up ahead!" I yelled back, hoping he heard me."Right here!" I yelled again, and we slowed to a stop. I felt my face go red as I saw him checking out the small two-story squeezed between two other houses that were much larger.
"Nice place." Dean said, nodding towards the cottage-like home.
"Thanks."
"Wait, let me get your stuff!" He exclaimed, grabbing my binder and assortment of papers and books from underneath the seat. He handed me the load, my heart fluttering at the mere touching of our fingers.
"Than- thanks for the ride. It was cool." I said, kicking myself on the inside for being so nervous.
Dean smiled that wide smile that made his freckled cheeks lift and the smile lines around his apple green eyes stand out. "You thought so?" I started to walk up the path to the front door when he ran up to me. "Hey, here's my number. Call me sometime." Dean pulled out the same pen he had used earlier to write his number on Ashley's hand and wrote the same thing on my own. He smiled the same smile that had fooled dozens before me.
My stomach flipped before I realized what I really was too him. Just another experiment, another toy for him to play around with. I was just like all those girls he had messed with. And I had seen them after Dean had whirled through their lives. They became wrecks before moving on to another boy. Except I knew that I wouldn't move on. I ran the rest of the way back to the front door and slammed it closed the minute I was inside. It would be better like this.
Dean's POV
After Cas ran back up the stairs and into the house, I assumed it was just his nerves, because, I mean, I had just given him my number; but, as I drove home and all throughout the evening, I couldn't stop thinking about the small, nervous, blue-eyed nerd, and how his expression had seemed more hurt than anything as he ran away from me.
I knew how to make it up to him, though. A dance was coming up soon, and I would ask him to go with me.
---------
The next day, during break, I walked up to Cas's locker, where he stood struggling to put some books away. "Need some help?" I asked, taking the three textbooks from him and sliding them in the locker. He jumped when I approached, but just looked down, refusing to meet my eyes. "Hey." I said, tilting his chin so he looked up at me. "Cas, you wanna go to the dance with me?"
His bright eyes widened but then seemed to dim as he shook his head, pulling his head out of my grip. "Why not?" I asked, surprised.
He clenched his fists at his sides, looked me in the eye, and said, "Because, you, Dean Winchester, are a player, and all you do is hurt people. I've seen it. I don't want anything to do with you." He slammed his locker closed, grabbed his binder from the floor and walked off.
I stared at his retreating form, thinking about what he said. God, was I a player? Did I hurt people? Thinking back, I could see how terrible I really was. None of them had meant anything to me. Cas, well, Cas was different.
Later that day, I walked into biology and saw Cas sitting in the back row, as usual. I thought about going back and apologizing, promising that I wouldn't hurt him like the others, but the strict voice of Mr. Petry rang out behind me. "Mr. Winchester, you might want to take a seat now." I slid into the nearest empty spot and swore to myself that i'd talk to Cas after class.
The hour of biology seemed to last forever before the bell finally rang. I grabbed my stuff as fast as possible, but Cas ran out the door and got lost in the hallway before I could get to him. He didn't want anything to do with me. God, I was an idiot.
--------
After school finally ended for the day, I found myself in front of Cas's door, ringing the doorbell. I heard the sound of running feet and the door swung open, revealing a college age guy with golden-brown hair and a mischievous smile.
"Sup. Who you here for?" He asked. Before I could reply, Cas came running up, pushing the older boy out of the way.
"Gabe, get out of here!" He yelled.
"Ahh, so you're Dean..." The guy Cas called Gabe said, drawing out the e in my name.
"Move it, Gabriel." Gabe practically skipped away into the house, chuckling to himself.
"Balty! Cassie has a boyfriend!" Gabriel yelled up the stairs.
Cas glared at me, ignoring his older brother. "Why are you here? I don't want to see you right now. Go away."
Cas started to close the large wooden door, but I pushed it open and put my foot in the doorway. "Cas, please, talk to me. I promise I can change. Give me a chance."
He looked at me, softer this time, and I took a step back, trusting him to keep the door open. Then his eyes looked sad, and he slowly closed the door, an almost disappointed look on his face.
"Come on!" I yelled at the off-white painted door. I turned around and walked back to my motorcycle, hopping on and slowly driving away. What I didn't know was that a pair of blue eyes watched me drive down the street and into the neighborhood until they couldn't see me any longer.
---------
That Saturday was the dance, and I walked through the doorway of the dimly lit school cafeteria. I saw some girls that I normally would have immediately started talking with, but that wasn't what I wanted. What I wanted was to put my arms around the small, blue-eyed boy and dance to a slow song. I wanted to get to know him better. I wanted him to trust me. He wouldn't be here though. I got that message. I didn't deserve to dance with him, to know him, to let him trust me.
So, instead, I walked over to one of the empty tables and sat down, watching the crowd of mingling students. I realized that I had no reason to be here, and that I only came in hopes of seeing Cas. But, hell, he wasn't coming. After a few minutes of moping at the lonely table, I stood and started for the door. That's when he walked in.
He glanced around, as if looking for someone, so I waved and yelled, my voice almost drowned out by the music, "Hey, Cas! Over here!"
He looked up and caught sight of me, then started walking over. "Dean, I just-" Cas yelled over the music.
"You don't need to apologize, Cas, I do! I realize now why you can't trust me, and I know that I've hurt so many people. But I promise that I won't hurt you. Will you give me a chance?"
He grinned, the first real smile I had seen from him, and said, "Why do you think I'm here, idiot?"
Just then, the loud rock song that had been playing came to a stop and a voice came over the speakers. "Now we're gonna slow it down. This song has been requested for Dean and Cas. Gabriel says that it's time for ya'll to get together. So, for all of you couples out there, hold your partner close for Elvin Bishop's, 'Fooled Around and Fell in Love.' "
"Gabriel." Cas said, shaking his head.
"So, shall we?" I said, gesturing to the dance floor.
"Sure." Cas muttered, blushing again. I lifted his arms to rest on my shoulders and he nervously complied. I set my hands on his hips and pulled him closer.
We slowly moved around the floor, swaying to the music.
I must have been through about a million girls
I'd love 'em then I'd leave 'em alone
I didn't care how much they cried, no sir
Their tears left me cold as a stone
But then I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love
I looked down at Cas, his blue eyes sparkling in the dimmed lights, and smiled. Soon enough, I felt my lips shaping the lyrics of this old classic, a song that I had loved for a long time. Cas chuckled and smiled a soft, happy smile, and I knew that maybe, just maybe, we'd turn out ok.

When people start saying that your favourite bands are bad
Does anyone have that feeling where its like ‘I want to write’ but you also dont want to write? Cause im experincing that right now and its FRUSTRATING
But seriously...
Look at that face.
Who else do we know who looks at his male bro-pal that way?
Like, literally exactly that way?
With the same cheeky smile and everything?
Complete with eye-crinkles?
*Hint: these pictures all have one thing in common.*
Similarly, which other couple (of best buds), one of whom is fond of wearing plaid, do we know who expresses affection through shoulder touches?
Seriously, WHO?
It’s even the same shoulder and everything. Jesus Christ.
But hey, just bros bein’ bros. Nothing to see here.
