I finally got around to using Artbreeder to make what I imagine Muriel looks like
Itās not 100% accurate... I know, but this is the best I can do for now
Hope you like it

Writing a Latine character
Hereās a little PSA for people who would like to write a Latine/ Latinx/ Latina/ Latino character in their stories and want to be a decent writer.
The great thing about writing is that you can make whatever you want, come to life. You can create characters and plot points and twists and all that good stuff.Ā
You can also chose to not be a fucking racist piece of shit.Ā
Recently there was a book written by a white woman called Drive which involved a lot of racist tropes, jokes, and stereotypes that deal with a Mexican girl. I feel like this should be talked about.Ā
The writer issued a bullshit apology on IG but she turned off the comments so here the fuck we are. The examples listed are from said book as well.Ā
If you donāt know how to write ethnicities that are not your own make sure youĀ get a sensitivity reader to help you, or just donāt write them. However, this author had aĀ āMexican friendā who informed the general public that the author had lost her v*iginity to a person with a Hispanic sounding last name⦠yeah idk. And that she had lots of Hispanic people on her team because she is color blind, butĀ ānot in a bad wayā. So idk get someone that doesnāt know you and is confined to a very racist state, again sheās from TEXAS.Ā
However if you would like to make your list of characters more diverse without being a racist these are somethings you can avoid doing.Ā
Donāt add r*cist jokes (that should go without saying, but here the fuck we are). Or unnecessary race jokes even if they are being said by your Latine characters. You arenāt us, so leave these things out of your writing.Ā Ā
For example:Ā
Immigration jokes, specifically border patrol jokes. (Below is a screen shot from the book I mentioned)
Internalized racismĀ āShe doesnāt speak SpanishĀ because she thinks she sounds stupid. She hasnāt used the loungeĀ enough, and she doesnāt like being half a b*aner.āĀ (This was written by a White Texan woman in 2017. I wonder what was happening at the time that made a lot of Mexican and Latine people the target of xenophobia and racism).Ā
Inquisition jokes:Ā āāNo, itās the Latina Inquisition,ā he said with a twist of his lips.ā
Colonization jokes
FetishizationĀ āāThereās the cocky little Latina I know and love,āāĀ
Tropes
The spicy latine (angry/ loud/ jealous):āāYouāre so rough around the edges, my little Latina.ā AndĀ āāYeah, well, you were getting a little fucking feisty back there, Stella.ā I laughed.Ā āYou donāt like it when I show my Latina.ā WHAT THE FUCK!!!
The maidĀ
The self hating brown girl:Ā āAnd every dark girl want to know what itās like to be a light girl at some point in their life.ā
The dancer: āāCome on, woman, youāre half Mexican. You were born with rhythm.āāĀ āāIām Latina,āā I correctedĀ āāAnd I have rhythm. Shut up.āā
Certain mentions of oneās ethnicity where there shouldnāt be
āāGO!āā I screamed at the top of my Latina lungsā¦ā (Ah yes to show that she thought we are very loud.)
āāHow about you kiss my Latina ass.āā
āPaige, Iām fine,ā I said, trying to keep the angry, tequila-filled Latina at bay.āā (Because we are always pissed off and prideful)Ā
DONāT USE SLURS, even if you have heard people use them with each other, You arenāt us so stop. If you donāt know if a word you are using is a slur, look it up, thankfully Google is free, or donāt use that word you are unsure of. No one should have to remind you not to be a piece of shit.
Avoid racist situations towards your characters in your books especially if you are writing in a fantasy setting. Most readers like to escape to a different reality, why the fuck are you making them take these things with them as they read your book.Ā
Just because you saw some racist shit go down from one Latine to another, DONāT WRITE IT IN! FFS
If you are a latinx/e person who has experienced these things and your main character is also Latinx/e that is fine because it deals with YOUR experiences, everyone else stfu.Ā
And if any of you feel some kind of way about this post, figure out why and change that shit because what the fuck?
- Sincerely a Mexican- American woman that shouldnāt need to be writing this.Ā
Julian would never get tired of your kisses, or the way you gently place your hands on his hips whenever you jokingly push him against a wall, or the way your fingers play with his soft hair or caress his cheeks, or the sweet scent of your hair, or the unique taste of your lips that makes him want to devour them, or your voice whenever you call his name, those words leaving your mouth in such gentle whispers.
Julian would never get tired of you.
what I really like about all these vintage coupleās portraits is that there is a very certain romatic decorum kept up ā certain themes and poses ā which, while of course being the mainstream preferred view of couples repeated throughout many studios, are just⦠so nice to look at.Ā
this staged affection, a mix of theatricality and intimacy, the couple holding still for a couple of moments and now immortalised in a very set sequence of embraces and kisses. there is a charm to it even when I canāt tell whether this was a genuine couple portait or just actors hired by the photographer.
the kiss on the bare shoulder (eyes perfectly averted), the cheek caress, the piano and the violin, the interrupted embrace, the woman tilted back as in a half-stopped danceā¦
I simply must torment you a bit with these, let us see some of my personal favourites! (part one due to the image limit)
let us start with the kiss on the cheek (eyes averted! oh the pose! these were taken between 1910-1940)
or the nearly opposite energy (how daring!) of the kiss or caress with direct eye contact (1910-1930)
and then the innocent ā yet so flirty ā classic of the park encounter! (1890-1920)
and then the famed kiss on the bare shoulder ā what an idea, what a vibe, such intimacy! (1910-1930)
and oh, I am not done, look at this ā the adoration of the woman! look at this expression, this pose, this decorum! (1910-1940)
and then some of my favourites from the more playful or direct category, enjoy (1910-1930):
and, at last (thank you for still being here and witnessing my recent fascination with vintage polish photography) my three absolute favourites outside of any particular categories (1910-1930)
just look at her. just look.
Muriel sleeping under a tree and Stella :3
Because I just had to request this type of commission from @mineshaft-birdie! What makes this even better is she titled it "Reparations" when she sent me the final drawing. š¤£
I finished my first CG in like 2-3 months, and I'm actually pretty happy with it :D Linearting these two very complicated characters was not the most peaceful venture back into it, but eh
Baking Headcannons
Muriel and baking.
Muriel,
and baking.
Just witness him kneading the dough watching his muscles flex and bulge at the effort. Doesn't help that he catches you staringā now he's flushed and sweating a little with it. Oh, if he could paint a prettier picture of himself then you'd probably just melt.
He's sending you glances every so often just a little shy at the attention, but also relishing it. So happy that he's able to make you get this flustered just by kneading dough? If it makes you happy he'd do it every day.
And then the icing on topā literally. If you're making a cake or something with icing or whipped cream, and you get a little on your face. White icing. On your face. He's not going to say anything. He is not going to say anything because he can't what's he going to do, ruin the pretty picture you've given him? At some point he probably will end up telling you about it, and if you're really clever, wipe it off and offer him to take a lick. Ah, did I say clever? Perhaps I should have said suicidal. He's going to accept. Even if you were joking, he is going to do it. Because he wants to. Oh he wants to. He'll take your finger(s) into his mouth and suck them clean because of course he will, and he'd end up spending just a little too long sucking and "cleaning" your fingers.
Of course when both of you regain sensibility he'll probably apologize and you'd wash your hands, but damn. You should probably make it clear you liked it or else he's going to worry.
Past that, expect to be a lot less spotless and efficient when it comes to baking.
For the art requests, could you please draw Muriel cuddling inanna š„ŗ
But of course I can! Hereās some happy Muriel and Inanna for your soul.
Send me an ask if youāve got something youād like to seen drawn.
And donāt forget to reblog and support my art.
His voice actor is the same guy that does the voice for Sid The Sloth, but yeah heās cool
