Hey, everyone.
I'm finally back after a much-needed hiatus. I had a lot going on, and on top of that, I got a job, so that's been... Interesting.
I will check in periodically, but I'll most likely take my time getting to things.
Cheers.

regional gothic request: Caribbean? anyone got some Caribbean gothic?
This ended up just being Jamaican Gothic because even though I live here I’ve only been to one other Caribbean country and I was only there for two days.
Old abandoned canoe turned upside down on the beach. Beside it sits a makeshift stove top, recently used cooking utensils. You walk by the road everyday and you’ve never seen the person who’s been eating there.
Looming darkness by the thick shrubs that line the sandy beaches.
Grey and aggressive water thrashing onto warm sand, a figure walking in the distance.
You do not walk small country roads in the dark. And if you do, you do not heed the black figure flitting across the road ahead of you. It’s probably just a mongoose. Probably.
When the sun is up the area is wrapped in sweltering, blistering heat that sears your skin. But the night grows so chill that you feel it under your skin and in your bones and you wonder how on earth you can’t see your breath.
Everyone seems to have a ghost story of their own. Glimpses of silky, silver white dresses disappearing around the corner in abandoned places. The feeling of eyes watching you in the night. The scent of a loved one’s perfume or cologne in places they used to occupy.
Staring into the whites of the eyes of the old woman “catching the spirit” in church as she convulses on the floor screaming for the Almighty father, tears rolling down her cheeks and withered shaking hands reaching to the Heavens.
Staring out the window of a country bus, amazed by the number of small five person communities you’ve passed in an hour. Some seem frozen in the post-slavery era, with women in frocks and headwraps as vibrant in colour as the assortment of fruits they peddle flitting among old English buildings on sloping dirt roads, nestled into the mountain. Others barely look like towns at all, with a few wooden shacks and small cement buildings nestled closely together. You wonder how the towns don’t slide off the sides of mountain. The people there never seem to see you, they barely acknowledge the bus.
You haven’t seen another town for fifteen minutes now. It’s just been winding dirt roads that narrow and widen at the strangest places, and wide sprawling green hills all around. You wonder how a mountainside can have so many colours. The driver hugs curves so hard you swear the bus is about to turn over. The old woman at the back of the bus has been staring at the back of your head for the entire ride. You don’t recall if she was there when you got on the bus and you don’t remember seeing her get on.
At some point on the silent ride, when the bus is half empty a woman or a man stands without prompting and shares a bible passage, a message from the Daily Bread or they burst into a hymn. Sometimes other bus patrons join them, usually the older folk, voices starting weak and creaking but growing in strength and conviction over time.
Your office worker from St. Elizabeth has been giving you strange looks all day. When you confront her, she confesses that she had a dream about you and your blood runs cold. You cancel all plans you had for the weekend, stay home, call your mother and pray with her or ask her to pray for you. Maybe later you sing a hymn or two to yourself.
You just realized that the angry woman who called you “wicked” for not allowing her to cut in front of you in the line at the bank had graying bulky dreadlocks on her head and smelled vaguely off olive oil. You burst into tears convinced you crossed an Obeah Woman and now she’s going to curse you.
When you’re a child and that one girl from your class who doesn’t like you says her grandfather was a Witch Doctor and her aunt is an Obeah Woman and she’s going to cast obeah on you and your whole family and everyone is going to die and the teacher punishes her and assures you that no such thing will happen but you’re inconsolable and bawl for the rest of the class.
A woman you don’t know approaches you on the street. Her face is unfamiliar but the intense concern and knowing in her eyes strikes you. “Have you prayed today?” she asks.
The eerie quiet your house takes on when a hurricane has just rolled in. The place was alive with planning and preparing and listening to the radio and watching the news to track what was going on. Then the rain begins. Everything electronic that made noise is plugged out now, and positioned away from the walls. Everyone’s doing their own thing somewhere in the house, quiet but quiet together, eyes to the sky, ears trained to the howling of the wind.
The screaming and banging of zinc roofs being lifted out of place and slammed back against the house by the wind.
Passing by a stray dog on the road and minutes later looking behind you to see the same dog glaring at you.
Soca/reggae/dancehall always seems to be playing from somewhere, sometimes so softly on the wind that you can hardly tell if it’s actually there or sometimes loud enough that you definitely know it’s there but it doesn’t matter either way because you can never find the source.
When the sun is out beating down on you but for some reason it’s started raining, even though there are no clouds in the sky. A shower is still falling from the blue. Your mother calls it liquid sunshine, your grandmother says the country is crying.
Hummingbirds literally always appear out of nowhere. You’ve never seen a single nest or a baby hummingbird they’re always fully grown. You never see them come and go. You just look up and one is there in your garden or your backyard. They flit around the foliage, faster than you can track and remain there as long as you keep your eyes on them, like they want you to see and understand that they’re there. The moment you look away they’re gone.
Your brother swears on his life that Hanover isn’t a real place. When was the last time you met anyone from Hanover? When your parents take their anniversary trip to Montego Bay they drive through the parish to prove a point. Your brother finds it suspicious how the video only shows them entering the parish and leaving. He’s not convinced.

If any of you are gonna do that May the fourth and star wars thing today, can u guys at least give a salute/tribute to the hidden fortress 1958 that influences star wars from 1977 to this current day since it’s Asian and Pacific islander history month like just acknowledge if it wasn’t for Akira Kurosawa and many other hard working asian filmmakers and actors in that film, there would be no mega star wars saga!

There’s a gigantic, fluffy cat in Thailand named Bone Bone who likes to play at the park, go shopping, and climb trees while wearing his yellow backpack.
He does NOT like to be pet…
But that doesn’t stop his +30k adoring fans from following him on Instagram.

I WOULD PAY TEN TIMES AS MUCH FOR CHOCOLATE IF IT MEANT REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF SLAVES IN THE WORLD? HOW IS THIS ANY KIND OF PROBLEM.
good news, you can! the company’s called Tony’s Chocolonely and their entire purpose is to make slave-free chocolate and reform the chocolate industry.

Whole Foods carries it. If you don’t want to support an Amazon-owned company, World Market carries it. You can also buy it directly from the company.
It’s the best chocolate I’ve ever had and it’s 100% slave free. Tony’s Chocolonely works really hard to push for transparency within the chocolate industry and actually has and is following an action plan to eliminate slavery within cocoa production. They’re good people who make good chocolate.

i have a cat named The Lady and my favourite thing about her is that she manages to have this very petite, delicate face while also being incredibly fat so every time she goes downstairs i just hear like.
THUNK THUNK THUNK THUNK THUnk thunkthunkthunk
and then my mother in the softest, most delighted voice going “oh, hello my wee lady!”

cats be like: ok im gonna radiate serotonin now
In 2019 we grow from sex positivity to sex responsibility, meaning we:
call out shitty people who are just abusers and using kink/polyamory to mask it and stop supporting them
recognize that sometimes hypersexuality can be a form a self-harm for some people
keep kinks and fetishes in appropriate spaces and not bringing them out into general public spaces and thereby involving people in scenes they aren’t consenting to
understand that some fetishes are inherently unhealthy and some illegal to actually engage in for good reason and ignoring that is irresponsible at best
teaching teenagers safe sex but not encouraging them to engage or seek out dangerous sexual situations or sex with a partner who doesn’t care about them in an attempt to be ‘sexually liberated’
