a lot of writing is sort of watching the film in your head like oh sorry canāt write the chapter yet i have to repeat hallucinate the dialogue first
Sometimes, fanfiction is carefully plotted out stories, with plot points and call backs and themes that all tie it up in a meaningful and exciting way.
And sometimes fanfiction is, āWatch me do a fucking KICK FLIP off this cool sentence!! Also here's some sex'
Both are beautiful forms of writing.

listen i may take 4 weeks to write a 3k word chapter, and i may take 45 minutes to decide whether i should use ālaughā or āchuckleā, but at least i donāt use ai and whatever youāre getting is pure chaos from a human brain

true enlightenment is realising that honestly as long as you have a single dedicated reader all of your other ao3 stats dont particularly matter
NORMAL PERSON: Hey, whatchadoin? ME: Um⦠writing. NORMAL PERSON: What are you writing? ME: A story. NORMAL PERSON: A story about what? ME:
I think a lot of what makes fanfiction so magical is writers taking the time to explore tiny elements that were imagined into existence in the source material and then abandoned. It's the deep dive into that t-shirt, the forgotten gift, the nickname, the spare key, the anger they swallowed down, the trauma they supressed, the love they denied, the story that wasn't mainstream enough to make it. It's the little things getting their moment to shine and I fucking love that and I will fight for it always.
editing is so funny because it's like "damn, i wrote 'before' two times within three paragraphs. they are going to stone me in the town square for this"
2 genres of fanfiction:
1) put that guy into situations
2) take that guy OUT of situations for the love of GOD let them RESTĀ
#you put the sad guy in #you take the sad guy out #you put the sad guy in and you shake him all about
donāt unfollow me okay. iām going to make a really good post one of these days. just wait.
And eventually, a new chapter. At some point.
sometimes writing feels like dragging your brain across gravel. but at least the gravel is sparkly. and covered in metaphors.
this is about procrastinating. or executive dysfunction. i think
nothing but respect for our troops (smut writers) but listen. i dont want to be the person to tell you this, but not every character is going to be a dom or a sub. some people. and i know this is hard to hear. but some people do have vanilla sex. and some of those people might even be The Character.
