This is late, but the reason we get very different social media interactions from Misha and Jensen is that (it would seem) they have wildly different aims in their careers. Misha's primary aim with his fame is to harness fan energy to do good in the world; he wants us to want to engage with his social media so that when he posts about politics or social justice, we listen.

Jensen, on the other hand, is pursuing a career in television and film acting. He spent most of his adult life staring in Supernatural and he's just starting to work on other projects, expanding his fanbase along with his repertoire. His social media tells people about his work. Yes, some of it's weird, but its undeniably image related.

I do think they really care about each other- and don't get me wrong, I love it when they post "inside" jokes and heartfelt messages- but their social media is undeniably tied up with their careers and unlikely a reflection of how they feel about each other.

Supernatural Skip/Watch List

I want to create a place that lists the quality and content of every single episode of Supernatural, based on fan surveys.  Supernatural can be hard to watch because there is so much, and so much of it is very bad.  It is also frequently racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic and otherwise triggering.  My hope is that this could act as a resource for both fandom newcomers and veterans to better enjoy Supernatural.

Right now I’m scheming by myself, but if you think this sounds cool I would love feedback or help.  If you’d like to learn more I outlined my plan here and you can feel free to dm me anytime.

Hey folks, I’ve decided that I’m done with Supernatural and it’s fandom and I hope that you all see this and know that you have each made this space welcoming and happy for me.

I’ve known pretty much since day one that Supernatural is racist, but I realized recently that I have not been engaging with as critically as I previously thought. The posts that brought this home to me was this by @caspig420halloweenurl about the racist nature of the character Kaia and a post sharing the news that Jensen Ackles is directing and episode of the show Walker.

I absolutely don’t want to say that it is Supernatural fandom is inherently bad- it really got me through that last year and a lot of people do really great stuff in it. I am however glad that I realized I’m not ok with it now and I’m sorry that I didn’t do more of my own research to know what I was engaging with. I hope that folks in this fandom continue to find joy in it while engaging critically with both canon and fanon and fostering positivity and inclusion for marginalized people.

Again, thank you all for being around for the last year and being very cool! I’m going to be unfollowing Supernatural blogs but this blog will still be up at least for a while and anyone can feel free to message me here or at my main @rouge-wall-enthusiast.

my take abt k*ia under the cut

alright since some ppl are actually dming: if you havent seen s13-14 theres a character introduced named kaia whos basically a double racist charicature; her earth version is introduced as a drug abusing, self harming runaway orphan whose uncle was just killed, and her alternate world self is a spear wielding savage in a forest. her spiritual “powers” are portrayed as traumatic and negative and are exploited so that the white boys can get their mom, she faces violence from dean (THEE White Man) each encounter, shes sioux but isnt played by one (but instead by an actress who isn’t even first nations and seems to get a lot of work off being ambiguously “savage”) and theres the context of the actual filming of the show, in vancouver often, where there is a significant visible indigenous population who struggle with homelessness and drug abuse. then theres her relationship with claire, and the wayward sisters that didnt get picked up (thank FUCK! dabb i will scalp you for what you had planned). its undeniable that this character was created with a racist, anti-indigenous lens

i am an indig two spirit myself. i dreamwalk. yes its a real thing and its not a fucking horrorshow, it TEACHES us. it connects us. its a GIFT from gitchi manitou, not a power. anti-indigenous racism is not only a problem from just early spn, it is inherently ingrained in it. but even knowing that i still cant wrap my head around why fans cant see this or choose to ignore it. as long as yall get your claire/kaia right?
