“word hashtag my word #myword” has done irreversible damage to my vocabulary
every time a trans man who does not want to be called a twink gets called a twink I will personally go out into the world and rend 1 parked car to shreds with my teeth. cut it out
walk with me for a moment. let's think for a sec. I'm not upset but I do want people to understand. do you think assigning a label associated with feminine features, hairlessness, skinniness/lack of muscle tone, and high pitched voices is something that most trans men would feel comfortable being associated with? why or why not?
of COURSE there are trans men who don't mind it, or trans men who actively enjoy being called a twink. but I am not hairless by choice. I WANT fat and muscles and body hair and a deep voice. and a lot of trans men that get called twinks DO HAVE THESE THINGS, yet they get called "twink" anyway. why do you think that might be?
it's okay if you've done this in the past. maybe just check in before you call your friend or acquaintance something with so many specific, potentially disheartening associations!
I wonder if the inverse occurs with trans women getting called "butch" too. because there are many wonderful butch trans women!!! but if you call trans women "butches" for traits like short hair or body hair despite otherwise feminine presentation, maybe think about why that is? is she really a butch? or is that just her body? just ask first!
nonbinary people too. are they really "masc presenting" or is that just their body? are they really "fem presenting" or is that just their body? let's all try to be a bit more cognisant of the language we use to describe the trans people in our lives, yeah? [: it's worth thinking about. don't worry yourself into a hole about it, of course! but it's something to check every now and then.
please stop harassing black people off this website. it's like stormfront for toddlers on here. it sucks, stop it
idk how "black people should feel welcome on this website" became something you have to say out loud. if black people aren't comfortable or safe on here then that is our failure. be anti-racist or die.
it's not enough to be passively non-racist. whether you're chasing people off here yourself or choosing to ignore "discourse" (meaning the rights of black people to basic respect), the end result is a big whites-only sign outside your little clubhouse. when the tide is pulling toward bigotry, refusing to swim against it just means you'll be carried along too. passivity is acceptance. get mad, get loud, don't value the comfort of the oppressor over the dignity of the oppressed.
that is actually my main principle of explicit fic is that the personalities stay On during sex.

imagine you had a friend who constantly made jokes at the expense of something you loved. they're never funny, but they seem to expect you to laugh even though the punchline is just, "this thing you love sucks ass". it's not even really a joke, there's nothing funny about it, you can tell that they genuinely actually believe it. but they insist it's just a joke!
no matter what the situation is, they're always bringing the social interaction to a screeching halt with these jokes. nobody ever wants to participate in this joke with them. nobody agrees with the premise. nobody ever knows what to say afterwards, it's just an awkward moment and a subject change. but they just keep doing it.
you have to stop with the self-deprecatory "humor", it's not fun for anyone including you.
#actual advice: switch to self-aggrandizing humor #have the biggest ego in the world even if it's fake #does wonders
as the smartest and most beautiful woman in the world, I can confirm this
too many people have the idea that racism is a nothingburger thing. like. people die from that. it’s not “cancel culture” to call out racism. and if you’re white and you say anything close to that you have some serious self-reflecting to do. idc if you’re a content creator. idc if “it could happen to you.” having a platform on the internet and saying stupid bullshit doesn’t make you more oppressed than the marginalized groups you’re criticizing for being upset
Btw people elsewhere reverse searched the image and confirmed it’s a stock image of a trans woman. This was a conscious decision to degender her and give her a masculine name
everyone saying "what if Toby is just nonbinary" needs to think very deeply about this. Toby isn't real. its a stock image of a transgender woman, given a masculine name and referred to as "they/them". think long and hard about why the person who created this training program would do that.
this is why your lit teachers made you write about the books you read. you're supposed to think about the author's intentions.
Also, they very explicitly described Emerson as a “transgender man”. As a paired adjective and noun. “Toby” is just “transgender” as an adjective with absolutely no further clarification. If “Toby” was meant to be nonbinary, do you think that the company wouldn’t have just said “Toby is nonbinary”? Plus the very obvious “male/female” juxtaposition that these sorts of trainings love to take. And while yes, that binary framed juxtaposition is exorsexist on its own merit, understanding the presence of that implicit exorsexism is part of what makes it the transmisogyny obvious.
And undoubtedly the bonus aspect of transmisogynoir in this particular case, but I am not black and am still working through my learning on the subject, so I’ll leave that part of the discussion to someone better qualified
something i haven't seen anyone else point out:
since i switch jobs a lot, ive seen a lot of these discrimination training modules. this question is specifically one where the test taker is supposed to identify which scenario actually counts as discrimination, and which is "normal workplace behavior" that legally isn't harassment.
the green around Emerson is to indicate that that is the correct answer, according to the test, that it is actually discrimination based on gender, and that "Toby" isn't being discriminated against, according to the person who created the test.
its training the person who takes this test for an hr position to gloss over microaggressions. show of hands, girls, how many of you have been fired or reprimanded for a made up bullshit reason when you know for a fact the actual reason is because you're trans?
here's how it usually goes. Lisa, who is out to HR but isn't out to the company yet, files a report. she says that Leighton yelled at her for low sales, despite Mark having even lower sales. HR asks Leighton what happened. Leighton says "i had a critical discussion with Tony about their sales quota." HR remembers this moment from their training module, and since nothing obviously transphobic happened, HR decides to ignore it, or even yell at Lisa for a false report.
wanna know how i know this shit happens? because it happened to me! (fuck target btw)
shit like this makes it effectively legal to discriminate against trans women if you're subtle enough. this is why we get paid less. this is why less of us have stable income. this is why so many of us are homeless. transmisogyny is a systemic issue that festers its way into every facet of society, so much so that most people don't even realize its there. they can't even recognize it when its staring them in the face
that's why you have so many people confused about why the training module is transmisogynistic. to them... its not transmisogyny. its normal.
everyday white women complain about weaponized incompetence with men and everyday they turn around and do the exact same thing to poc
“I didn’t know what xyz meant!!” why on earth would you repeat it then without looking it up first if you didn’t know the meaning. google is right there you can use it.
“How am I supposed to learn if you don’t educate me?” once again, Google is at your fingertips, use it for the love of god.
“Well I can’t find any sources on [this topic]” found four within a minute, you just want poc to do the labor for you.
“Being mean doesn’t mean you’re right!” “You’re just aggressive!” “Well if you don’t want to have an ~civil~ conversation..” “You’re overemotional” do y’all even hear yourselves. Like do you never stop to think that maybe, just maybe the shit you’re parroting sounds a little familiar?
I'm gonna say it, I do think that even the laziest person imaginable should have a roof over their head, food in their stomach, and access to healthcare
Do you think tumblr will ever learn the difference between “I’m defending this person because I agree with them wholeheartedly and I am also like this person” and “I’m defending this person because your behavior is dangerous and you need to stop”
IMO, blurring the lines between “I’m defending them because they’re right” and “I’m defending them because you’re taking this too far” is step numero uno to cutting down the very existence of fair trial and democracy–even in places where saying that might seem a little dramatic.
Mob mentality is extremely strong in humans and it’s also extremely dangerous. Mobs don’t think things through. Mobs kill and they destroy and they can’t be reasoned with. Someone trying to calm a mob down isn’t someone defending the ~problematic party~ It’s time we re-learn that.
*guy who has never heard of Hamilton* I don’t know why you guys are all shipping random founding fathers with each other and not Lewis and Clark who were definitely fucking in a tent every chance they got on that trip Brokeback Mountain style
