The next feature from Species of Lore is the Raven.
A frequent figure in mythology, this artwork was inspired by icelandic rune magic and a spell to understand the raven's speech and predict the future. Associated with wisdom and memory, many people know of Odin's companions Huginn and Muninn.
In many cultures the raven (as befitting of a big, black carrion bird) is also an ill omen.

Nasty cold has me trapped inside but at least I can watch stuff
The second feature from Species of Lore is the Hound - representing dogs as a species and notions of courage, loyalty and honour.
While not as featured in folk beliefs as the serpent, dogs still hold an important position in the traditions of western cultures. If you look at historical paintings throughout much of history it is impossible to miss the presence of dogs - often included to represent the aspects mentioned here.
The saluki specifically (the breed of hound depicted here) also carries the reputation of nobility and an honoured position in some arabic cultures, with potential traces back to Ancient Egypt and beyond.
Through the Kickstarter campaign the Hound design is available as an enamel pin and a Limited Edition print!
The main goal is reached and the Hound is one of three designs guaranteed to be produced, but there are still more stretch goals to unlock!

Earlier today the first stretch goal was reached, and Lily of the Valley will now be available to choose from for all backers!
Today's feature design from Species of Lore is the Adder. Chosen to represent the serpents that are ever present in myths and tales from accross the world, the adder is often considered dangerous because (while its venom is not one of the deadlier,) it is one very angry snake.
Associated with cunning and a sharp and hard to follow mindset, the serpent has sometimes also been thought immortal or near impossible to kill. Traditionally it is also in many places associated with healing, recovery and medicine.
Through the campaign the Adder design is available as an enamel pin and as a signed Limited Edition print.

While properly starting up my freelance illustration business I've also been working on something a bit different... My partner and I sneak launched www.dapperanddust.com just over 24 hours ago! We make historical clothes, alternative/vintage inspired fashion and costumes on commission (and will always have a few bits in stock), shipping worldwide.
My partner is joining our D&D group... So some art had to be made Drow Cleric (Life Domain)
