"Endogenic", before it was "lovingly coined" by its supposed creator, was actually already in use to refer to the Fantasy Model of DID. It's not only a medical term, but also insinuates that DID is a product of fantasy proneness and weak-mindedness.
"The Trauma Model [says that] DID is etiologically related to chronic neglect and physical and/or sexual abuse in childhood. In contrast, the Fantasy Model posits that DID can be simulated and is mediated by high suggestibility, fantasy proneness, and sociocultural influences."
WORSE STILL, the fantasy model implies that even trauma memories are made up.
The term "endogenic" can be traced all the way back to Freud's work in 1956!
"Freud’s theoretical conversion of a predominant endogenic interpretation of trauma and hysteria (sexual abuse→sexual overstimulation, deferred action, repression→hysteria) in an extreme endogenic view (Oedipal sexual wishes→fantasy, repression→hysteria) had major clinical implications."
If you remember, hysterical neurosis was the first diagnosis for "multiple personalities" from the DSM II.
Here's another quote, just showing that there's nothing positive at all about the word "endogenic". “Many World War I psychiatrists also took a one-sided endogenic explanatory route by claiming that soldiers who broke down had a weak mental and moral will.”
As well, the idea of "endogenic DID" was actually used to try to have DID removed from the DSM.
“Another revived historical idea involves a contemporary variety of a particular mix of endogenic and exogenic causes, that is, the idea that dissociative symptoms and disorders are due to the patient’s fantasy proneness and suggestibility (endogenesis) in combination with suggestive, illness-inducing or illness-reinforcing actions of other therapists and the media (exogenesis). These thoughts have been influential, but individual views and facts can be opposite. An attempt by some proponents of the so-called sociocognitive model of DID to erase DID as a mental disorder in DSM-5 failed.”
Seems like someone made a BIG WHOOPSIE choosing "endogenic". NOT COOL, MAN.
And before anyone jumps on this with, "you can use words in multiple ways!!", what's important here is that this word in particular LITERALLY has this kind of history and you're using the same exact word in discussions of the same exact topics.
