some things i hate:

youtube playing ads immediately after a video is over, not letting me rewind what i was watching until they’re over.

all social media apps having this tiktok dash structure where as soon as a short video is over it automatically scrolls down to another one, algorithmically chosen.

streaming apps moving the thing im watching to a tiny corner and recommending more things as soon as the end credits begin, and i have to opt out of the next movie/show starting under a short timer.

streaming apps doing the same thing also after i finish watching through the end credits, not letting me sit with a blank screen for a little while until i decide im ready to move on.

Potential reasons to identify as asexual:

Little or no sexual attraction

Little or no sexual desire

Little or no libido

You don’t want to have sex and that’s significant to how you navigate the world

When you do feel attraction, you have no desire to act on it

When you feel sexually aroused, you don’t want to involve another person in it

A disconnect from expectations and narratives of “normative” sexuality

Any combination of the above

A lot of people identify as asexual based on sexual attraction. And that’s good and valuable. I just want other, or intersecting, reasons people identify as asexual to be respected too.

If you experience these things you don’t have to identify as asexual, and if you identify as asexual you certainly don’t have to experience all of these. But these are all real and significant reasons various people come to the asexual identity.

I understand being upset that the book ages are more ambiguous in the Dregs edition. I really do. There is a reason I tend to stick to the canonical ages, even when writing AUs. However, I have found myself troubled by some of the discourse I have seen about that change that seems to imply that we stop growing and learning (and in the case of Matthias become irredeemable) the moment we turn eighteen.

First, I think it is important to note that the ages of the characters have not been entirely erased. Inej is still trafficked at fourteen-years-old. Kaz still joins the Dregs when he is twelve. However, Inej has now been in the Dregs "a few years" instead of a little under two. That means, she is maybe twenty years old at the oldest. She is still, in all likelihood, a teenager. Adding a year or two to her age doesn't erase the fundamentals of her trauma, nor does it change the fact that she is a young woman learning how to navigate a cruel and corrupt system that seeks to destroy her.

Then there is Matthias. He was still brainwashed. His trauma was still turned against him, and he still managed to break away from his upbringing. I think people underestimate how hard it is to leave what is, ostensibly, a cult. The implication that leaving that cult at eighteen versus twenty fundamentally changes your moral worth is not only troubling, it is insulting to people who have managed to escape brainwashing in their early twenties.

I suppose the thing that bothers me the most about the way people are talking about the change is the implication that people in their late teens and early twenties aren't allowed to find themselves, aren't allowed to challenge corrupt systems, aren't allowed to be silly, aren't allowed to finally realize their purpose. As someone who did not find themselves until my early twenties, that makes me fundamentally sad.

We never stop learning and growing.

I agree Riordan should be better at catching inconsistencies in his books but like. ultimately it IS his editor's job to do that. whether you wanna say he's using ghost writers for this newest series or its just the fact that churning out books as fast as he does is Insane, like. either way it is quite literally what the editor is employed for. did he recently get a new one who's worse than the old one? or is it the same editor doing bad work for 20 years and getting even lazier? it's baffling to me that as popular as the series is this has been allowed to fly for as long as it has. bro at this point I'll be your editor damn
