Gimme ur opinion on leoichi right naow pls pls pls😼
okay so first things first. Leoichi is peak and i love it.
I'm gonna start with the way they interact before going into detail about how I think their relationship could go because I don't immediately wanna hit anyone with like angst or anything like that 😭
My idea for them is that yuichi is from the meiji period but in an alt universe where it's futuristic(I hate that concept but ok?) And leo being in. well. 2018
Their relationship, while rivalry, would be silly mostly. With leo messing with yuichi and teaching the country boy the city ways 🤣🤣
Yuichi is also pretty stereotypical, having cliché one-liners (which leo does not FW) and being the type of person who'd say "he's right behind me isn't he", and leo would absolutely CRINGE whenever he hits the ikuzo emote
Compared to leo, yuichi is a dumbass when it comes to insults. Leo uses more witty remarks and uses more slang in his general way of speaking, while yuichi has a more awkward speech and isn't very good at insults or is very basic at them.
Not to mention since yuichi is in like meiji period/19th century, which means some things mean different than it does now. That being said, yuichi would call leo "queer" as in strange, and leo would get confused on why his sexual orientation got brought up while he's insulting yuichi only for him to realize 😭😭
Yuichi also doesn't understand most modern day idioms/metaphors, and is also strangely acknowledged in things even tho leo views him as a complete idiot. Like.
Leo: "omg you have such a thick skull"
Usagi: "Oh wow, Thanks buddy!"; He thinks leonardo called his skull strong because its thick, is a little confused on why leonardo would suddenly compliment him in such a random way, but he thinks that it must be a normal thing with new yorkers
also, both of them aren't romantic w eachother. Like. They're.more so casually in eachother's presence. Yuichi would be more-so subconsciously affectionate, Even then his most intimate act is holding hands
Leo is like "ewww....rommaannccceee....euugghhhhh...." and He'd feel very awkward when yuichi is being, quote, "affectionate", but would somehow give in and just let the hand holding go on for an extended amount of time !
Leo's affection is like those casual uh man things like putting an arm on his shoulder and stuff
A hc of mine is that leo really enjoys yuichi's fluffy fur but is too embarrassed to really like. Cuddle w him and all. Leo enjoys heavy things on him, that help ground him. So like whenever he feels stressed or anxious he could ask yuichi to just lay on top of him (nonsexually obv) so that the warmth of his fur and the weight of his body grounds leo and yes
Time for the EVIL part....
They're extremely similar yet somehow so different, they're like two sides of the same coin.
Their personalities clash with eachother, thus that would create a rivalry relationship between them at the start, but as time goes I imagine they grow to somewhat *tolerate* eachother while still keeping up the whole rival thing, or. Their relationship could even get unhealthy. (Will talk abt dwdw)
Why I think so is because both of them see themselves in one another, like I mentioned, two sides of the same coin. Both of them have somewhat savior complexes(heavy on yuichi), and both of them tend to show off (heavy on leo🥹🥹). They're both overconfident yet insecure of themselves, but in their own, different, respective ways.
Leo avoids facing that insecurity of his, Meanwhile yuichi THRIVES to get rid of that insecurity by getting himself to stand out, to prove to not only others but also HIMSELF.
Because of how "open" yuichi is about that insecurity — well, not quite but it's very clear in his actions — leo grows a specific dislike for him. But obv he hidesthat dislike since he'd have to face his own insecurity due to it.
Leo often cringes at yuichi's actions and general way of speaking, with the whole "IKUZO!!" emote shi and stereotypical one liners(which leo is definitely better at doing).
Fairly speaking it isn't yuichis fault, he grew up in a farmhouse with his auntie and a pet tokage for a friend without much social interaction, he's far more awkward than leo who's a city boy.
But their relationship would force them to face themselves, their insecurities and their hatred towards their own selves. Which this is where it could get unhealthy. The silly rivalry they have could quickly turn into hatred when they aren't able to recognize their own flaws, and instead focus on the others' flaws and become two-faced, petty, and just. Generally toxic.
Another way they could get unhealthy is co-dependency, yuichi's desire to become a better samurai causing him to latch onto leo and his desire to be like leo so he can prove himself too, and leo thinking of yuichi as the only person that can understand him in a deep sense due to how similar they are even if leo won't talk sbt his feelings.
OR THE GOOD ENDING WHERE THEY GROW TO JUST ACCEPT THEMSELVES AND HAVE A GOOD RELATIONSHIP RAGHHHHH😭😭😭😭😭
they accept eachother but not entirely, they still dislike one another but it's not in a deep sense; it'd more-so depend on the situation and the aftermath they get in if they meet.
Another thing... *takes deep breatj*.... INTERNALIZED HOMOPHOBIA YUICHI DONT KILL ME PLEASEEGHHGHH

In edo period homosexual relationships were very much okay up until feudal japan came into contact with the west during meiji period(after edo period) that it started being seen as wrong, that being said there's also a large chance that miyamoto has had an intercourse with his mentor
Considering that samurai rabbit takes place in "neo-edo", I feel it's safe to assume that his story took place in meiji period where homosexuality started being seen as weird due to the west's influence. I feel yuichi was grown up to be homophobic but the only reason he wouldn't show it is because during his ancestor(miyamoto)'s time it was okay and he looks up to his ancestor alot so I feel he'd more so have internalized homophobia sort of.
That's why it'd take a while for yuichi to accept leonardo, and would actually cause a few problems between them. Imo yuichi would fall first, but he won't realize it up until leo falls in love and start giving him "hints", even then, he can't recognize it and instead feels guilty and humiliated about his feelings.
Old man leoichi would be much more cuddly and they'd act like high schoolers in love (kinda cringe at it too but hey they love it) cause they didn't get to have that type of relationship due to their circumstances and everything I mentioned
I FORGOT TO MENTION !!! In combat, Leo's cunning and so while yuichi just jumps at the opportunity without thinking AT ALL which annoys leo alot
Yuichi is autistic and leo has adhd. Their ship name is AUDHD ok? Ok
