sums up 2020
The planet can support billions but not billionaires.
Ecofascism 101
tng: welcome aboard the starship enterprise, a luxury cruise ship drifting among the stars. our crew contains notable elements of Diversity and our captain gets pegged by an omniscient being from another dimension. enjoy the soft jazz concerts, shakespeare performances, and infinitely powerful holodecks at your leisure
ds9: hop aboard Station On Fire Trash Can bitch. does our shit work? no. is this a safe place to live? fuck no. senior officers include Space Dad, Lesbian Terrorist, Trans Worm, Goo, Dr. Twink, and Perpetually Confused White Guy. if you want to get dragged into an elaborate crime syndicate, contract a deadly space disease, or get stabbed in a barfight, youāve come to the right place. also, holosuites are for fucking. yeehaw

People are so brainwashed that even your own colleagues will give you the side eye for calling in sick, let alone managers
Itās not even the managerās fault. A lot of management is pressured into scheduling only enough people for a shift in order to makeĀ ālaborā, aka the amount of money it costs to pay workers vs sales for the day. If managers are over in labor they can be punished or even let go if it happens too often. Blame for this bullshit often falls upon upper upper management on a corporate scale rather than a local scale.Ā
Team ānot actually oblivious to flirting, just terrified of appearing presumptuousā represent.
āYes, in the balance of consideration this personās behaviour could certainly be interpreted as flirtatious, but it would be purest arrogance for me to just assume they actually meant what they said. I should gather more evidence. Forever.ā
Iād been kicking this idea around for a while and trying to think about how to articulate it. Pretty happy with how it eventually turned out!Ā
Sometimes I think about my reasons for getting tattoos (just for myself, not because they need justification). Adding onto this painting metaphore, I think getting ink is a way for me to put down portable roots. I move a lot and will be doing it again soon, and until I can actually settle down and paint some walls Iāll take visual control of something more accessible, namely myself.
Morning reblog!
Damn that was beautiful.
I have a lot of feelings on how indigenous groups who didnāt build permanent structures like cities arenāt seen as being as sophisticated as ones who built large cities, without accounting for the fact that maybe itās in our values systems to leave as light of a footprint as possible and itās important that our structures are easily taken down or fade with the passage of time because itās easier on the landscape, but ya know.
This made me think of the story one of my Coast Salish acquaintances tells of how her family would travel from the Puget Sound up Mt. Rainier every year and, sure, following herds but also they had berry bushes and trees and prairies (with camas is the one she always talks about but Iām sure other foods) that were in the care of specific families so they also followed the plants through the year. They cultivated and cared for them, not just coming to gather and move on to the unknown. They came back and to the same places, the same plants and trees every year.
I think a lot of people mistake what a huge connection that is to land and territory. They hear ānomadicā and dismiss it without realizing. It doesnt mean you dont have roots in the area. It means your roots are so ingrained in the area outsiders dont even see them there.
This was/is the lifestyle on the territory where I live.
Thereās actually an oral story told here of when the ancestors did build a large city and started to accumulate wealth and resources, the Creator sent a beast in the form of a landslide and annihilated every trace of the city.
This was BY FAR the best thing Iāve seen today.

THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT
OH FUCK YEAH KID YOU GO
we talk a lot abt not comparing ourselves to others as a creative, but also be mindful of comparing yourself to like, some kind of perfect superhuman version of yourself - a mythical you who works for 8 hours with perfect efficiency and flow, with minimal perfectly enforced breaks, and uses up every single scrap of available time. the hypothetical achiever of the ācouldā inĀ āi could be getting so much more doneā
that person doesnāt fucking exist! theyāre fake! you made them up! what can the REAL you do, with the amount of time you can realistically put in per day? focus on building a workflow around that instead.
iām not saying itās bad to take a hard look at yourself and your workflow and try to see where you can improve, or to hold yourself to high standards - but double check with yourself. are you being realistic? or are you imagining some kind of scenario where youāre scraping out every single second of your day, in a way that NO human does?

I wont say an exception is not possible, but billionaires do not donate money. They buy control over something that is important to them. If there are exceptions I have not seen them. Every time you see a billionaire being a philanthropist and actually giving a significant percent of their money look a bit deeper and you will find them actually buying control, not giving money away.
A prime example is Bill Gates. Well known as a philanthropist, primarily for his large scale donation to education. Except what actually happened is he essentially bought a sharing control in the US education system and proceeded to fucked it up terribly. I will believe his intentions were good, but frankly that doesnāt matter. He fucked it up because he is a billionaire and billionaires just canāt give up control. It is how they became billionaires in the first place, it is baked into their minds.
They just canāt accept that Notre Dame isnāt for sell. Because that is what ādonationsā mean to billionaires. They want to buy a controlling stake in something that they care about, and they have been doing so long they think that this is philanthropy. Because it makes sense to them that if they are going to invest *their* money that they should make sure it is done right. But they generally have no fucking idea what they are doing when it comes to these things.
Anyway if billionaires actually wanted to help the first thing they need to do is let go of their control and pay god damn taxes.
Yeah, thatās why you donāt excuse ādonationsā as a reason why the rich shouldnāt pay more in taxes. This is exactly why we need their help funding essential services through TAXES. So THEY stay out of what DOES NOT belong to them.

the line between doing some things as self care vs doing them as depressive apathy is soooo fine, like oh do i wanna sleep all day because iām tired and i need it or because iām depressed and trying to escape? same with not going out, canceling plans, isolating yourself, like, ANYTHING comfortable in even a little excess is liable to be one or the other... the line is thin and im a tightrope walker who just joined the circus to get away from the family farm and ive never walked a tightrope before and i am lying in the hay on the ground.
Ok but I really love how the LOTR films use colors/costume design to show Denethorās power over the other characters
Like: every character in LOTR has their own set of Characteristic Colorsā¢. Denethorās Characteristic Colors⢠are desaturated black and grey:
. These arenāt necessarily Gondorās colors (Iāll get to that in a minute) but theyāre definitely his. In The Two Towersā flashback scene, Gondorās soldiers are dressed in Denethorās black/grey, including Boromir:
But when Boromir leaves Gondorā and is free from needing to carefully Perform in front of his fatherā heĀ starts wearing his own Characteristic Colors⢠instead. These colors are royal red, gold and blue:
(Literally wearing your true colors)
Meanwhile Faramir, unlike Boromir, doesnāt wear Denethorās colors in the flashback. He wears his own Characteristic Colorsā¢, which are brown/green, bc Faramir does not do what Denethor wants him to doā¦
ā¦.until ROTK, when Faramir surrenders to his fatherās will and exchanges his characteristic brown/green armor for black/grey armor. Itās like his identity is stripped away
Similarly, Pippinās Characteristic Colors⢠are blue/green:
But when he enters Denethorās service:
No individual expression allowed
āBut black and grey with no accents are Gondorās colorsāā Nahhh I donāt buyĀ Denethorās anti-color propaganda.Ā When Aragorn replaces Denethor, the first thing he brings back is colorful fashion
Aragorn doesnāt wear black and grey, like Denethor did. He wears things that merge the black/white of Gondor with the sort of royal red/blue/gold of Boromirās characteristic colors
And so at last the tyranny of Denethorās drab fashion sense was ended
#firstly the lotr art directors knew what the FUCK they were doing#and secondly you think for a second that aragorn son of arathorn would be caught dead in some ugly ass drab grey#even his rugged ranger outfit had tasteful splashes of colour#the man was raised by elves is all im saying
These are so cute! š (source)
