like your dad died 7 years ago and you miss him every day. you miss goofing off with him, relaxing with him, his words of encouragement, his smile, how safe you felt in his presence, you even miss sparring with him. but you've also been living the life you want; no danger, no terror, no death, no reason to fight. you wish he would've stayed home, you wish you could've been a full family and that he would've raised your little brother along with your mom. but it's true that your life hadn't looked like this since you were 4. and then, one day, you learn he's coming back for a day. and you're so overjoyed that you'll finally see him again, he'll see how much you've grown, he'll meet your brother, you'll be a family again! you never would've joined the tournament were it not for videl, but if your dad's coming back just to participate? you'll gladly be there, you'll get the whole gang together and you'll all have fun doing martial arts without the world-ending threat.
and then it happens again. as fate would have it, on the one day your dad would be here, a new world-ending threat finds you. and it's a blessing that your dad is here to help, because you can't keep up, no matter what you do. and it's like you're 4 again. helpless, needing your dad to rescue you when all you wanted was just to spend time with him.
