New headcannon: everyone in that song is gay except the Piano Man who has no idea he’s playing at a gay bar and the staff and regulars have a betting pool on how long he’ll take to finally figure it out. So far John is ahead.
“The manager gives me a smile ‘cause he knows that it’s me they’ve been coming to see” also implies that the Piano Man is possibly an incredibly attractive but oblivious himbo, and if you listen to the rest of it imagining that, this all fits a little too well.
this makes too much sense. Also, the full quote is “Now John at the bar is a friend of mine. He gets me my drinks for free. And he’s quick with a joke or to light up your smoke. But there’s someplace that he’d rather be” Yes, your bed, he wants to be on your bed honey, that’s not a joke, he is flirting with you.
It’s especially good humoured bc the song is based on his actual experience. He gave up recording music for a time in order to force his record company to let him out of a bad contract. To keep himself afloat, he took a job as a pianist in a bar (might’ve been a hotel bar? I forget) under the name ‘William Martin’ (Martin being Joel’s middle name).
I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say
Fantasy worlds always have large, beautiful moons, sometimes a few of them in pretty colours. We should have more fantasy worlds that have like 112 piece of crap tiny lumpy moons that are horrible and pointless.
They have a whole astrology system based on their awful moons and eclipses are bullshit because it just looks like a piece of gravel being tossed past a light.

When Felix gave your number to his bandmate, Chan, you didn’t expect to be so easily enchanted by him.
You were aware that he was extremely good-looking; you had seen pictures of him, videos of him performing, being an adorable, dorky menace, yet also an absolute gentleman and a sweetheart at the same time.
However, no camera or fancam could do justice to his beauty in real life. He was even more majestic in person—his features sharp, yet soft and warm at the same time; his aura confident and easygoing, yet also slightly timid and reserved.
The night he picked you and a very drunk Felix up from the bar, he greeted you like an old friend—like someone he had known for a long time, or at least heard countless stories about. Which may very well have been true, considering Felix had been trying to set the two of you up for quite a while.
Beneath his sunshine-like aura, Felix had a hidden layer of pure mischief, always pulling strings, always scheming to reach his goals. So, he made sure to talk about you constantly to Chan, show him your best pictures, tell him about your achievements, and share every funny joke you’d told or memorable story you’d lived through. Chan couldn’t help but become infatuated with the idea of you, so he got excited when he found out you were the one texting him from Felix’s phone that night—and even more delighted to finally meet you in person.
And again, nothing could have prepared him for your beauty in real life. Felix’s photos were nowhere close to reality. Your eyes were bright and full of kindness, your smile so wide and genuine that he couldn’t help but smile himself. Your aura was warm and inviting, similar to Felix’s, but somehow even more so. And your voice… God, your voice was so soothing, sweet like honey. He wished he could listen to you talk all day and all night.
And he might get the chance to do exactly that, as he looks at your contact while his ringing phone rests in the palm of his hand. What he didn’t expect was a FaceTime call instead of a regular one—he would have put on something nicer than his disheveled Chrome Hearts hoodie, which he’d had forever, his favorite piece of clothing of all time. But it will have to do for now.
He answers the call, and your face immediately fills his screen. As you look at him, your pout turns into a smile. You seem tired, your eyes slightly puffy, reminding him that you had mentioned having a rough day.
“Hello, pretty girl,” he says cheerfully, his eyes squished into tiny crescents as his ears visibly turn red, afraid you might tell him off for using a nickname like that.
“Hello, pretty boy,” you answer between giggles, and—even though you didn’t think it was possible—Chan’s ears turn even more crimson.
“You can’t call me that,” he mutters, dropping his face into his palms, trying to hide. However, his fingers part slightly, and he peeks at you through them, through the screen.
“Then you can’t call me pretty girl either, doofus.”
“Of course I can, because it’s true!” he says, sounding genuinely offended, like he’s ready to defend his choice of nickname with an entire list of well-thought-out arguments.
“Well, mine is true as well, so I win!” you grin, and he rolls his eyes, acting like he’s thoroughly bothered by your logic, but there are no hard feelings behind the gesture—it’s more comical than sincere.
The two of you look at each other silently for a few moments, taking in the person you’ve been texting nonstop for the past two weeks, ever since you met in the party district of Seoul.
“How are you feeling?” he asks softly, ready to listen to you rant and to cheer you up as best as he can.
“I’m good, honestly. Had to get a good cry out, I guess,” you explain, playing with the drawstring of the hoodie you’re wearing. “I’m also talking to this handsome guy, so I guess that makes it even better.”
Chris’s face drops slightly, his shoulders sagging. You notice how his tongue pokes at the inside of his cheek, and you quickly step in before he can spiral into an entire scenario in his head. He’s clearly the overthinking type.
“I’m talking about you, silly!” you laugh, and he visibly relaxes, though his ears turn red again.
“Oh—yeah… um… I knew that. Yep. Yep,” he stutters, trying to hide from the camera by slowly sinking down in his seat.
“Heyyy, come baack!” you whine, laughing at how silly he is.
“I’m embarrassed.”
“Don’t be. You’re very endearing when you’re irritated and about to explode.”
“You’re cheering for my downfall, huh?”
“Absolutely not—but you’re cute when you’re flustered.”
He chuckles softly and finally straightens up in his seat.
“You know, young lady, I should be the one doing all the flirting over here. STAY say I’m really good at it,” he jokes, and you smile widely.
“Well, I can’t argue with millions of people now, can I?”
“Nope.” He pops the p to emphasize just how absolute STAY’s opinion is on this matter.
“I’m glad you’re feeling better,” his voice softens, growing more sincere, like he’s trying to make you understand how important this is to him. “We all have bad days, but I hope you know that you have people in your life who are always willing to listen and cheer you up. And you can add me to that list as well. I’ll be here whenever you need me, okay?”
“Okay,” you say just as sincerely, a flustered smile spreading across your face while your heart does somersaults in your chest. “But I think today, I’d rather listen to you talk, if that’s okay.”
“It’s fine, of course.” He smiles and nods slightly, his eyes crinkling again, and you can’t help but find him absolutely adorable. “But be warned, pretty girl, I can talk for hours. I used to go live every Sunday for hours on end just to yap with STAY.”
“Is that supposed to intimidate me, Bang Chan?”
“Not nearly as much as you using my stage name on me.” He looks mildly offended, like the mere thought of you calling him Bang Chan doesn’t sit right with him.
You chuckle, and his smile returns—grateful that he can keep your spirits up.
“Anyway, let me tell you how Hannie accidentally pulled down Changbin’s pants during practice today…”
He launches into the story with so much enthusiasm that it’s impossible not to notice how much he loves his members and how passionate he is about what he does.
After that, he tells you another story—this time about Felix, one your best friend never shared because it’s slightly embarrassing.
Then you tell one of your own, and suddenly the conversation flows effortlessly between you. At some point, you both shift to your respective beds, still talking.
You keep going until your eyes grow heavy and refuse to stay open. Chan blinks slowly at the screen, murmuring a soft “good night” as sleep pulls him under too—carrying him into dreams where he’s greeted once again by your beautiful smile.
