For anybody who's smut reads like a jiu-jitsu match I have some insights: -The subs out there should probably be focusing on where the sweat is going and accepting it like, "he was dripping into my shirt like a rainforest canopy..." then go off about no escape or some shit. -If the aim is to be truly feral with finger tetris just make sure to mix in out-of-focus oopsies like, "I was tearing holes into the sheets with my toe nails while attempting to push her through the headboard." Then you can go back to weaving fire signs for a climactic jutsu. -You can also aim to apply the inspiration the character had with their maneuvers like, "I gripped their knuckles, pulling away from their shoulders like some kind of torture device." Bonus points if you include the name of said torture device.

Lesser-known steps of the writing process:

Finding all the paragraphs where you used some hyper-specific word more than once

Rearranging paragraphs that you swear you wrote in the right order but turned out to be totally backwards

Going for a walk, coming up with the perfect line, and forgetting it as soon as you get home and open your laptop

Creating a separate document where you can dump all of those nice sentences that no longer fit in anywhere

Waking up in a cold sweat because so-and-so was supposed to be barefoot but never actually took his shoes off

Dean could’ve gotten his happy ending with his found family all together and I’d be able to rewatch the show with a sense of “just wait, you’ll get there in the end” but instead he got tossed on a fucking rebar and died alone

You have this character fighting for his life for 15 years, struggling with depression and anger issues, childhood trauma and identity, all while carrying the burden of keeping the literal world from ending. Learning to deal with his grief, learning to love and be loved in return. And when it’s all over you just kill him? Just like that? And then play it off like it’s a happy and deserved end

I completely agree with the sentiment that Dean deserved more, but I also think his demise harks back to the episode where they had to play against lady luck. The Winchesters cheated Death on several occasions. They would take down nests of vampires as a dynamic duo. They triumphed as many friends were dying in a monster-riddled world, because they were Chuck's favorite epic saga. When Jack took over and stopped the meddling however, the Winchesters were kinda asking to experience a hunter's death by continuing, and we as the viewers would have found it awkward if they didn't step in while vamps and wolfies were still about. To keep me in camp "It Coulda Gone Better" however, I'm willing to point out that Rowena was still in camp Winchester as a ruler of hell when Dean bit it. Wouldn't have been a stretch to have Sam find a way considering he still had many hunting years in him. Then there is the question of why they kept hunting when Dean said on multiple occasions he wanted to slow down on a beach and they also had closure with both parents.

Finally did it. Been on this journey of bingeing Supernatural for several weeks now. Started because fans were requesting some alternate "what ifs" and now its time to get writing. That said, I don't know if I'll be able to follow through with the Destiel teaser angle considering how little this series focuses on fulfillment. Largely because the monsters never go away. The threat of peace never goes away. In the end, they settle for a complacency that feels balanced. Perhaps to hand the reigns to the new Dean Winchester. Almost feels wrong to use Crowley in my writing at this point after his sacrifice, lol. Feel like I could have done without large chunks of a few seasons, but it was wrapped up nicely, and I wouldn't mind chasing the idea of what's in store for the future of the Men of Letters.

God being a writer feels like such a self-insert. At least I feel like his character conflict's with itself. Dude doesn't interfere with shit, because he ultimately wants things to be interesting. Then snaps away his problems as if he can have problems. I'm aware that I'm mostly yapping here since organizing my thoughts on the matter would take work, but if human's free will is his blind spot, then why can he wish away fate in a book? Dude acts like he's being abandoned, but then does shit that, lore-wise, should give him the power to reach out to a page for a little, "and they all loved Chuck". Not sure where I'm going with this, but I would much prefer it if they picked a side of the almighty fence and stuck with it.

I've seen a lot of fics disappear from my bookmarks, some 10+ years old, because they were added to an unrevealed collection. It makes me wonder if people realize what your fic being added to a collection actually means and if the authors approved it automatically without realizing what would happen.

If someone adds your fic to their collection, they can hide it! They can mark the collection as unrevealed and your fic will be unreadable to anyone other than them! If you're writing works for a surprise event, like a Secret Santa, this is really nice.

But if you're just writing and someone adds your fic to a collection for their own personal use and marks it as unrevealed, that. . . really sucks.

I bookmarked this fic in 2017, almost 5 years ago. Knowing me, the fic itself was probably at least a couple years old at the time I bookmarked it.

This is a 5+ year old fic that is completely inaccessible now because it was added to a collection that, as far as I can tell, is literally just for the collection owner's own reference. There's almost 30 fics in the collection, all of them unrevealed.

Please don't blindly accept collection requests and if your works ARE in a collection, make sure that they aren't being hidden without your knowledge or consent.

Are you able to remove a work from collection after you allow it or is it just a story that's just fucked?

Yes, you can remove your works! From the faq:

If you're the creator of the work:

1) Select the "Edit" button from the work's page and scroll down to the "Associations" section.

2) Select the red (×) beside the collection name you want to remove next to "Post to Collections / Challenges".

3) Select "Post" to apply the change. The work will be immediately removed from the collection.

I'm not sure if you get an alert if your fic is marked as unrevealed though, so keep an eye on the collections that your works are part of.

There's also an option in your preferences to accept collection invitations automatically. I would highly recommend making sure that that option is not selected.

I wasn't quite prepared for Hazbin to be such a musical affair, but I'm not hating it. Think I've been spoiled by all of the witty takes on Helluva Boss. Either way, I hope they expand more on the world building, because I recently saw a fancy contract and honestly don't know how serious that is. No knowledge of the risks of breaking a contract. Then there's the whole heaven's patrons being as off-kilter as Hell's patrons. Not sure what's going on there, but it at least fits the theme of the show. Full offense but your writing style is for you and nobody else. Use the words you want to use; play with language, experiment, use said, use adverbs, use “unrealistic” writing patterns, slap words you don’t even know are words on the page. Language is a sandbox and you, as the author, are at liberty to shape it however you wish. Build castles. Build a hovel. Build a mountain on a mountain or make a tiny cottage on a hill. Whatever it is you want to do. Write.

I fully support writing as a therapeutic and enriching art form, but I wouldn't feel comfortable allowing this sentiment to become gospel. I don't want to live in a world where I can't go back to a comfort story, because there aren't any writers willing to stick to consistency. Sure, I could be that writer, and some days I try, but it would be similar to being stuck as a Forever DM/GM and never a player. Nobody owes it to me, but that doesn't make things any less grim.
