lots of times if I tell my boyfriend that I am proud of him for dealing with a situation, or that I'm sorry he's having to deal with a situation, he will say "no it's my own fault." meaning that he feels like he doesn't deserve praise or comfort for dealing with a situation that is his fault. (for example a financial problem caused or exacerbated by him having been too anxious or absentminded to deal with the situation sooner.) and I tell him this and I will tell y'all this, that I don't believe that. I think you are even braver and stronger for taking steps to deal with a mess that is of or partly of your own creation, because you have to cope with guilt and shame on top of the thing itself, and because you're fighting against the same ingrained dysfunction in yourself that caused the mess. that's like the bravest and most constructive thing you can do and you should be proud and I am proud of you.
also, mistakes don't mean you deserve to suffer

I started out painting the sunflower kind of realistically and then the rest just ran away from me
me emitting a psychic blast killing everyone
the âhumans are inherently selfishâ fanclub can genuinely and in all honesty go to hell. i once came back from a school yard where the kids had heaped piles of leaves and cut wildflowers on a narrow strip of grass bc a bee had died. i actually want to cry.
when i was a child, my parents told me our houseplant would die of lack of sunlight. i was so young i donât even remember this, but apparently, my response to this was starting to carry the plant around like an emotional support stuffed animal. whenever my family went outside i would hold the pot on my head to make it reach the sun better. i wasnât in school yet, didnât have any exposure to the lessons on caring they give in elementary, i donât remember my thought process - but i can guess. kids integrally care about things, even tiny bugs and inanimate plants. humans care.
donât let them beat it out of you
as someone in my 40s, may i also add: if they beat it out of you? put in the work to relearn it until itâs a part of you again. a part youâre proud enough of that if someone tells you itâs dumb and you should stop, you can laugh and say âoh, no. no, i donât believe i will.â and then keep on keepinâ on.
compassion can often be a skill that needs to be relearned. so relearn it and revel in it.
Donât let your heart stay barren

Your boyfriend is a cat of course he wouldn't understand a shirt
Love bombing is not a euphemism for "too much affection too soon," or "high desire for contact."
"Love bombing" is a term originally used in the context of cults to describe a deliberate and coordinated recruitment method that involved feigning friendship and interest in a potential recruit, via flattery, flirtation, physical affection, and very directed positive attention to everything the recruit says in order to lure them into the cult.
Since cults and abusive relationships operate in similar ways and use similar tactics, love bombing in an interpersonal relationship looks like manufacturing closeness in order to trap someone into a relationship in which the abuser has all the control.
And I know these days there's a million bullshit junky articles out there that make you think this is a symptom of cluster b personality disorders, but there is no way for you to be love bombing somebody without realizing it.
If you are an affectionate person and the level of affection and attention you give makes someone uncomfortable, you are not "accidentally" abusing them.
If you are uncomfortable with the level of affection and attention someone is paying you, they are not de facto abusing you.
Love bombing is about using someone's desire for human connection to fast track them into a situation you control and will feel disinclined to leave.
