aang being tophs first friend is so important to me. someone who wants to be her true unapologetic self but has been misunderstood and underestimated her whole life by those around her meets a genuine and kind hearted individual who sees her for who she is and wants to be her friends because he likes the real her so she decides to drop the life she’s always known to help him on a journey all across the world

and when they think toph’s not coming because her parents wouldn’t let her and katara says “don’t worry, we’ll find you a teacher, there are plenty of amazing earthbenders out there” and aang says “not like her”

like he really saw her for how special she was from the start

I find it really gross when taang antis claim that it wouldn't work because toph would be "physically or emotionally mean" to aang. In part because it's such a huge mischaracterization of toph who hasn't been shown to be intentionally or maliciously violent to anyone. Outside of training settings, she is very chill, fun-loving and offers emotional support to multiple gaang members. But also the same people who make that claim also see katara as his OTP because she's the opposite of that and she's very gentle with him. I think the Bitter Work episode shows that contrast well. But also, this assumption leans on a heavy implication that Aang has to be treated delicately. He isn't fragile.

Just like Toph and Aang can be nonsense kids together, they also would have pushed each other to actually grow up. With Katara, Aang doesn’t have to do that. Which sure is something considering this is a coming of age show

people who say toph would be too mean to aang is so baffling to me because it’s like did you guys even watch the show? firstly because toph might be blunt and sarcastic, but she’s also shown to be sensitive and supportive/caring when it matters like time and time again.

and secondly because like, did you miss the part where toph helped aang face what was at that point his biggest weakness BY being herself? without toph, aang wouldn’t have learned to stand his ground like that, which i would argue was the lesson he needed to learn most (and was EVIDENTLY capable of. he’s a lot tougher than some of these mischaracterisations make him out to be).

If the ATLA film is released in theaters, I will go watch it. The artists, writers, musicians, and everyone else who spent years making the film deserved it.

I really hope they do a theatrical release, me and everyone I know would go to support it. It’d be so dumb not to do one given recent events and a disservice to all the amazing creatives who worked on the movie.
