It’s so close to the end. I can’t believe it honestly. I mean, we’ve been on this whole 15b journey together. Since October. I honestly wish we could’ve met a long time ago but I’m glad that we met at all. It’s been such a crazy ride. The theories, the clowning, the smallest moments that makes us have panic attacks, and the big ones that make us speechless and make us collectively lose our minds. I don’t think there’s a better group of people out there that’d I’d rather discuss Supernatural with and that I’d rather have taken this journey with. But... the journey isn’t over. It’s far from over. We still have one more episode. The big one. But more than that, the journey isn’t just Supernatural. It doesn’t stop there. We have become friends. Supernatural may have brought us together and it may bond us but, above it all, we are friends. So, when Supernatural is over (at least for now), we will still talk and we will still be friends. You are the most incredible humans. I can’t count the times I’ve laughed or the amount of times I’ve had my mind blown by one of your theories or insightful words of wisdom. And, every single time I’ve needed to vent or need advice, you’ve been there for me. I can’t thank you guys enough for being great friends and great clowns with me. You makes me feel less crazy when I have an 195 IQ, weird theory moment about SPN. I can’t thank you guys enough for the song recommendations as well. I’ve been introduced to so many songs. Mostly from Hailey and Kennedy. And we’ve also shared our love over certain songs. And then there’s the fanfic. I don’t know about you guys but I will never stop reading T&S or 91W or any of the fics I’ve been introduced to (or that I’ve introduced to you) and will be introduced to. Kennedy, you are a really good writer and I hope you continue to write. If you ever want to bounce ideas off or anything like that, I’m always here. Hailey and Kennedy, I can’t wait until Free Fall 2 comes out so we can talk about it and lose our minds forever and ever lol. Brittney, I want to keep obsessing with you over Jensen (and cockles obvs) and I want to see endless pictures of your dogs. (They are adorable). Lila, I demand to see more pictures of Walter 😂 and I definitely want to talk about our shared love of Chris Evans. Hailey, i want to keep obsessing over Max with you and talking about the dumbest stuff and laughing over the cheesiest things in everything we’ve watched or read. You guys are just honestly amazing. You all have given me so much. Our clowning and friendship may have began at Supernatural but, it certainly will never end with Supernatural. Thank you guys for letting me into your lives and continuing to do so. I can’t imagine clowning, Supernatural, or life without you. Past the seasonal pumpkin display, near the back of the store, you will find a trash pile Man Candle section. You will see candles called MMM, Bacon!. Riding Mower. Man Town. (I’m not kidding. Man Town.) Stay strong. Not in this section, but likely very near this section, you will find a candle called Mountain Lodge.

Hold this jar in your hands like a talisman. Close your eyes and picture a man.

I want to be clear: I’m not talking about a Hugh Dancy. Or an Andrew Garfield, a Ben Whishaw, even a Tom Hiddleston. This exercise requires someone in the Chris Evans weight class. The Richard Armitage department. Someone with smile lines around his eyes who could chop the cedar for your bower with his own hands, strangle an alpha wolf, carry you home when you sprain your ankle in the woods, bench press your entire body. Picture this man in your mountain home with a full beard, a slightly grimy white henley, a fond half smile he reserves only for you. Now open the lid and smell Mountain Lodge.

Steady yourself on the man candle display. Give yourself a second. No, you’re not wrong. Yes, the Yankee Candle Company has just eliminated the need for men. This medium tumbler Mountain Lodge candle jar is now your boyfriend. The Yankee Candle Company has effectively replaced the need for contact with the male half of our species with a compact and clean-burning candle in a jar.

“Do you like this one?” the cashier asked, ringing me up. “Every man should be required by law to smell like what this candle smells like,” I replied intensely. “That’ll be $12.01,” she said.

All right, Tumblr, I saw this post a few months ago and immediately realized I had to smell this candle. I have never in my life experienced such a burning need (pun intended) to smell what the Yankee Candle website described as a warm aroma of cedarwood and sage, but what Tumblr described as my new boyfriend.

The trouble is that nearest Yankee Candle Company store was a bit of a trek, and my schedule tended to prohibit this olfactory adventure.

So for the last few weeks, as I’d scroll my Tumblr dash and look at images of attractive manly men, I’d sigh and wistfully think, if only I could engage another sense with this image. If only I could I could truly fathom the ideal fragrance of this man.

And then this happened.

And I knew.

I knew whatever was happening, I needed to get to a Yankee Candle Company. The scent of Mountain Lodge would transport me instantly to this scene. The aroma of this infamous candle could make me live out a self-insertion Avengers fanfic.

So I got in my car, made the drive, and located the Yankee Candle Company. The store was crowded with holiday shoppers. My nose was immediately assaulted by hundreds of warring scents.

I battled through the sea of humanity and the Angel Wings-Merry Marshmallow-Magical Frosted Forest assault, buoyed on by my need to understand what Steve Rogers ripping a log in half with his bare hands smelled like.

I waded toward the back of the store, only to discover the man candle section seems to have been discontinued. What was I going to steady myself on, once I found my scented gateway to hanging out with the Avengers on Hawkeye’s farm? I felt lost, adrift, unable to find my bearings amid Soft Blanket-Fluffy Towels-Home Sweet Home.

And then… rising from the “Fresh” display, there it was.

Mountain Lodge.

It was the moment of truth. What would it be like to smell this infamous candle?

I opened the lid. I took a deep breath.

And I giggled.

Ah yes. This was it. This gentle, pleasantly masculine fragrance, in fact, reduced me to what I’d probably do in the actual presence of Chris Evans: giggle like an idiot.

The smell makes me smile, makes me laugh, makes me gently swoon: all reactions that, indeed, can be elicited by an ideal man. I can barely handle the true power of Mountain Lodge.

Several months have passed since this discovery. I have regaled friends with the saga, and after hearing of it, they, too, felt the burning need to smell the candle. One by one, we have all become Mountain Lodge converts. In times of need, this candle is our refuge. Our group has developed escapist superpowers, infused by the Yankee Candle Company.

So I went into the Yankee Candle in my local mall today, 30 minutes after they opened so it’s just me and the employee there. Both images make the candle look on the redder side so I’m looking with the reds since they’re color-coded and not really finding it and I must look confused because the clerk asks if she can help me find anything. “Yes, Um. I’m looking for Mountain… mountain Cabin?” “Mountain Lodge?” she politely clarified and I nodded “Yeah, I think so.” She led me over to a different area and picked up a candle that was not red but brown like the color of the wood your lumberjack bae of choice will no doubt chop for the fireplace to keep you warm. “That’s funny, the candle gets popular in waves. Sometimes nobody remembers we have it, and then for like a week people will come in asking for ‘Mountain Something’.” she handed me the candle, let me smell it.

“Oh, that’s. Um. That’s probably because of the tumblr post going around?” she knew Yankee Candle did social media but wasn’t familiar with the specific post. So I gave her a brief summary of it, slowly getting a bit more embarrassed. If she judged me she didn’t show it, laughing in a friendly manner and saying she’d have to look it up. “Yes,” I said. “It’s very convincing.”

I was genuinely skeptical, for tumblr has the tendency to get a little too hyped up over something not that great.

Never have I been so glad to be proven wrong.

After finding this post for the second time in less than a month, and with my birthday being yesterday (and therefore I had the extra money to spare), I figured it was fate for me to actually drive the short 7 miles to my nearest Yankee Candle and see what all the fuss was about.

When I reached the store, I entered with a mission. I was going to find this candle. I was going to see for myself if it truly lived up to its tumblr reputation.

The sweet blonde lady at the register didn’t even get the chance to ask me if I was looking for anything in particular when I found it. Under the “Home” section of the quaint little store was the beautiful warm brown of this candle. I smiled at the lady and told her that I found what I was looking for.

I braced myself. I pictured Chris Evans. I pictured Chris Hemsworth, even Chris Pine. I opened the lid.

I giggled. I smiled like a dork. I blushed and I swooned and this candle is the greatest creation on God’s great earth. You don’t even need to picture the buff and burly man. As soon as I smelled the candle, my thoughts immediately jumped to Brendon Urie and Patrick Stump, for I know that’s what those two glorious men smell like as well.

Friends, believe me when I say this: the Yankee Candle Company has done it. This glorious company has successfully managed to capture the essence of Your Next Boyfriend™ and put it in the form of a candle.

Oh my god, food extract is not the same as an essential oil.

Food extract is the flavoring of something cooked down into a carrier oil or alcohol that is safe for human ingestion.

Essential oil is the pure extract of the plant refined down and distilled for concentrated medicinal purposes to a significantly higher strength than simply adding ground up mint leaves to your water. The two are not comparable in any way.

Cinnamon extract and cinnamon essential oil are not the same thing.

One is about 100 times the strength of the other and can also cause acute organ failure. I’ll give you a hint, it’s not the food extract.

Sweet gods I’m not trying to be mean, I want you to be aware and safe and stop putting yourselves and others at risk. Please.

Like maybe my tone is hard to read, maybe it just comes off as really angry but it’s not, it’s fear and worry. I read posts and clutch my head in alarm going “no! No! That’s how people die!” And then I get exasperated because a bunch of people not formally qualified chime in with “um actually this is a lie” and it’s not, it’s really, really not.

I’m not some big pharma advocate. I’m a crunchy witch hippy just like you with salt rock lamps and rose quartz all over my house. I just happen to have spent the last 15 years of my life studying the actual science of holistic medicines and I’m trying to help you not get hurt (or worse) becuase you trusted a sales person with no idea what the ever loving hell they were talking about beyond a sales pitch designed to maximize profit. Gah.

I see this so often in the Mommy world. There was a lady not long ago in one of the mom groups who was really worried about her toddler. He’d had a persistent cough for weeks and the doctor couldn’t figure out why. Someone asked, well what have to tried to treat it with, so far? She said she was using a humidifier, honey, and eucalyptus EO in the shower every night.

Yeah.

In case you were wondering, eucalyptus can cause respiratory distress in young children.

Sadly I don’t wonder. I have a friend whose daughter died from a home made menthol oil chest rub. She wasn’t even ten yet, but her mom– a qualified aromatherapist– thought she’d be old enough to handle it. She went into respitory distress and died seizing in her mother’s arms on route to the hospital. It was one of the most harrowing stories I had to listen to during my holistic training. She stood up there, on this podium next to a bunch of ponzy scheme essential oil sellers who looked like they wanted the floor to swallow them, and said “I killed my child with good intentions”.

I’ll never forget the look on her face.

So to reiterate, children under the age of ten should not be directly exposed to things like eucalyptus oil, peppermint or wintergreen. If you are using such things in your house and your child starts to complain of headaches, lethargy and general “feel worse”, don’t just assume it’s the cold/flu. Those are all signs of menthol sensitivity and they only get worse with increased exposure. Ventilate the room, take them outside if you can until the air clears. Do not apply again.

Rapid onset wheezing may be a sign of allergic reaction or possible asthma attack triggered by the menthol too. If they tell you their chest is warm or fuzzy when you use it, that’s another sign it’s not going down well with them. Again, ventilate the area or remove anything you applied to them. Administer inhalers if necessary. Watch for any more labored breathing or if they suddenly go limp or you can’t wake them up. If they do call 911.

This can also apply to people with allergies and asthma who are otherwise healthy.

One of the safest, natural ways to alleviate congestion is with just pure good old fashioned warm steam. Keep the air moist, drink plenty of warm fluids. Menthol can help relieve the feeling of congestion, but there’s limited evidence to suggest it actually clears the airways. And for the love of god don’t inhale mustard or horseradish (I’ve seen that suggestion on posts too, though how you’d get those oils I don’t know). That’s literally what tear gas is made of.

I apologize sincerely for bringing this long post back into your lives, fam, but I’m getting inundated with questions about what can the possible harm be if you dab a little neat peppermint oil on your child’s skin to help them with a little head cold, and this is the most succinct way I can put it.

The harm you may do, is in fact death. I am not telling you these things to be a kill joy, I’m telling you so you won’t accidentally kill yours.

Also these people selling oils have been encouraging their buyers to ingest them. My mother in law got chemical burns on her hands because her sister told her to use essential oils as a rub for her roast. I had to explain the dangers of essential oils to her while her hands are burning from the oils. My brother and sister in law put it in straight, undiluted, into their coffee. People selling this shit dont care about your well being, they care about their money, which is in jeopardy since they put it into a pyramid scheme. This shit will make you very sick if not handled properly.

A theory!

Columbo is a rather unusual main character (especially for the time he was written) because he doesnt *feel* gendered. He displays tropes of both strong masculinity and femininity, while eschewing the usual presentation for both of those.

Many of his core personality traits are those normally (stereotypically) given to women. He's soft-spoken instead of take-charge, nurturing instead of protective, charming and flattering instead of suave and debonair. He even does the household shopping.

But at the same time, hes given very masculine features that confuses the effeminacy of his characterization. He doesnt fuss with his appearance, he flirts with women and ingratiates himself with men, he never takes 'no' for an answer, and he never subordinates himself, no matter whom hes speaking to. All of these are usually given to male characters, often "alpha male" type rebels and jocks!

He embodies most of the non-toxic aspects of both masculine and feminine paradigms simultaneously, without taking any of them to their normal-for-fiction extremes.

Columbo embodies a unique sort of gender expression, heightened by the fact that it doesnt actually seem intentional on his part (at least no more so than anything he ever does *seems* intentional to an outside viewer), just a part of his normal, haphazard, hapless self. Hes just himself, hes not trying to 'be' anything, one way or the other.

But it's easier to say "columbo is very gender"
