Total Convergence..? website!

Yes! I've finally come to the point with my webpage that I cansend it out into the wilderness of my social media pages! I've made a website completely from scratch where I will store all my official and canon TC..? lore and art. Tumblr will serve the same purpose, but with more non canon things, sketches, OC refsheets, unfinalized lore and my overall silliness of course. The website also has a much more efficient way of sorting information, think of it as a wikipedia of my world. Here it is, it's still a work in progress, so more content will be uploaded eventually!

punnett square request #2!

This critter has been sent to me by ROGUE THE OUTLANDER on discord! Highlighted in green is the image I received, the rest is my interpretation on different phenotypes of this guy. This time I didn't make a punnett square, but I only constructed genetics for this alien. I may or may not return to this one day. Next requests and stuff will be on my miscelanious art blog, I should really keep this one only for my project hah.

The dilution (dd) overrides the yellow expression of the green pigment (gg), so only green is expressed (Gg or GG). Because in low doses (gg) the green pigment appears yellow. In large doses (G) it appears green. Also, melanin and this green pigment mix, so the green pigment sort of "overlays" the melanin.

The pattern intensity can be affected by several genes: a gene that separates lines into dots, one that makes extra dots, and one that makes the pattern thicker or thinner. Here's a diagram of how the genes affect one another, still needs some polishing though:

Also, the recessive dilution gene (d) won't allow the recessive yellow (g) to express, it "switches it off". For every recessive dilution present in the genome (Dd or dd), a yellow gene is affected (Gg or gg). So when we have an individual that has the gene combination of ddGg, it would appear as one of the ones featured in one of the tables above - diluted melanin with bright green splotches. An individual with Ddgg would not have diluted colours, but since it is a carrier of the dilution (has one recessive form of the dilution gene) it overrides one of the recessive yellows, creating an alien with yellowish and brownish splotches.

I will eventualy get to one more request, but it will take me some time since the school is slowly starting. If you'd like to submit your creatures too, you can repost this with images of your critter and some info on their mating or genetics system, if you have one. Yuwiilik - assigning gender

These are the genders recognized by one of the most long lasting series of cultures in the world of Total Convergence..? - the Yuwiilik, or as I call them, the gut culture. There are many cultures spanning across time and space that are Yuwiilik, and share similar characteristics like the organs having an important meaning to them and their importance and recognition of genders. And there are three to four in total: The man, the siiyuo, and two woman subtypes - the yuoi and the yuou.

These two get often grouped together under the umbrella term “woman”, but still recognized as distinct gender identities. Yuou is a very butchered ancient term for something like “Us, tribeskeeper”, while yuoi is something like “Us, huntress”, and these translations have a tiny connection to their roles in the society, but the roles change across the time while the gender itself still remains recognized.

The people (I tend to call all my sophont species people) of Yuwiilik assign the gender similarly like we do - they look at the newborn’s genitals. However, they use a few slightly different methods. Here’s a diagram showing how a Yuwiilik person would assign which gender based on what they see between their child’s legs. The yuo yowa are born with their external genitalia not fully developed, and so the testicles aren’t fully erupted from the pelvic area, some yuos are born completely without them but “grow” them once they’re mature enough.

This bloody discharge from the vagina happens under the influence of mother’s hormones when the child was still connected to her through the umbilical cord. It can, but doesn’t have to happen. Whether this discharge happens or not is a used to assign either the yuoi or the yuou gender, as you can see in the picture. And it happens in humans too!

I promised a post about sexism and matriarchy along with this one, but I’ve decided to separate these two things into different posts. Enjoy and see you next time!

Okay I have shown this picture to my new classmates and I there was a misunderstanding for a little bit, maybe I could clarify this.

When they saw the picture, my classmates thought that I am speaking about sexes, not genders. To which I really didn’t know how to reply, because “a sex” is a very broad term: are we speaking about chromosomes? The shape of genitalia? This was difficult to clarify because for the Yuwiilik people, these would technically be sexes too, since they rarely separate gender from sex. The genital diversity is on the same level as ours. The siiyuo gender would be given to those that we think of as “intersex”. So the Yuo Yowa (a species dominating the Yuwiilik culture) aren’t too visualy different from us humans, their culture just teaches them to name genitalia differently.

The point is, It’s not “a different sex” to us, but to them it might be, because they think of sex and gender differently than we do. Biologically speaking they function the exact same like humans when it comes to reproduction, with only a very few differences like the length of the gestation period.

I think this was my attempt to deconstruct both sex and gender.
