Mild update to the babyshark fic I’m working on—

Non-linear storyline that switches between Brendon’s pending divorce to one woman while being engaged to another (Emma) to the events that occur AFTER the Fourth of July in Season 2.

Super problematic so yall be prepared, Emma is a senior in college when they get engaged and a junior when they meet. He’s married during her junior year and in the process of a divorce in her senior year (the part yall will see).

In season 2 they’re already married and trying for a baby.

My hot take in comics is that comics about female heroes would be better when their adversary was a man.

Why?

Because nothing is more dangerous to a woman than a violent man.

Ares in Wonder Woman (2017). Kilgrave in Jessica Jones Season 1. Todd in She-Hulk.

Not enough women have men as their main adversary in comics themselves, at least not in a way that truly reflects women’s experiences.

I also think that a lot of stories about women in general ignore how complex female relationships are. Like it’s not all “girlhood” so many women genuinely hate each other for the crime of ALSO being a woman, and we need to talk about that.

Working on a fic about Brendon and Emma that takes place when they’re already married and have kids BUT it comes with flashbacks to the beginning of their relationship, which includes a healthy amount of toxicity, codependency, and infidelity (they don’t cheat on each other, Brendon’s in the slow process of a divorce).

Is there anything specific anyone wants to see?

As a Greek, in response to the current controversy about Matt Damon being cast as Odysseus, I'd just like to share that one of the moments that changed my brain chemistry as a kid was reading a novelized version of the Odyssey and coming across the following description of Odysseus when Circe sees him for the first time and thinks he's hot: "his hair curled like a clematis and his eyes were very brown".

So may I present my own casting choice for Odysseus:

My last blog was about the lack of Greek actors in the film, but I never even considered how BRILLIANT my man Jason would be as Odysseus. THIS is a Greek man that would risk it all for his wife. THIS is a Greek man that would do ANYTHING to go home to his only son.

Having a problem with the casting in the Odyssey is one thing. Singling out the POC cast members is another.

Yes, Nolan should have casted Greek actors.

But people having a deliberate issue with Lupita Nyong’o and Zendaya’s casting is such obvious racism it’s not even funny.

I am a Pagan who believes in the Gods and has dedicated years to learning about the Greeks specifically. I am also a film student who firmly believes that stories about a culture should include people from that culture, and the Odyssey has no Greek actors in it. Greek people should tell and star in Greek stories— point blank period.

But if the entire cast is non-Greek and your issue is JUST with the Brown people? That’s insanity.

Last year JK Rowling personally funded a group called Sex Matters to amend UK law so that trans women *overnight* went from legally women to legally men. This has resulted in mass exclusion of the trans community from numerous organizations, along with ongoing violent assaults on both trans and cis women alike.

With the new Harry Potter series she will be making a reported $20 million per-season renewal + other performance dependent royalties. She has been open across multiple interviews regarding her intentions to use said funds to push forth even more trans targeted legislation in the years to come.

This isn’t a “she gets paid no matter what” situation. The more eyeballs on this show the more money she has to actively harm vulnerable communities. By engaging with it you are directly supporting this and otherwise making a conscious choice to consume HP over doing the literal very least possible to not destroy the lives of trans people across the world.

If my stating the objective facts above upsets you then feel free to unfriend and move along. Your nostalgia-goggles feelings for a tired, problematic franchise mean nothing to me compared to the welfare of my trans friends and loved ones."
