This is the #walled stone or obelisk. It is erected at the #Hippodrome Square, At Meydani in Turkish. It was reportedly decorated with gilded #bronze plaques which were stolen and melted down by Fourth #Crusaders in 1204. Young #Janissaries liked to use the obelisk to climb and show their prowess, the #obelisk suffered further damage to its surface. By the shores of #Karakoy area the usta's (chefs) do delicious fish&bread with very rich garniture. (Balik-Ekmek in Turkish.) This food cart belongs to Balikci Emin Usta. Interestingly this evening majority of hic clients were from far east. Who knows why 😀 Perhaps an Asian food blogger wrote about him.. Hamam makes you happy 🛀🚿😀 There are plenty of historical and modern #hamams in Istanbul. Generally a regular hamam treatment takes about 1 hour. And this is how it goes: - Change your cloths at your own private changing room. Don't worry they give you the keys of your room. - Enter the #steam bath room. They give each person a clean #peshtamal (towel) so there are no nakes people around. - Lie on the marble stone (gobek tasi in Turkish) which is heated approx 40 Celcius. This takes about 10-15 minutes to sweat out toxins and #relax tense muscles. - Your attendant (tellak in Turkish) will pour hot #water over your entire body. This is a wonderful sensation 👼 - Your #tellak will use an exfoliating mitt called kese, to gently #scrub your body. Starting from the upper body he/she goes through your lower body including feet. The scrubbing is done without any #soap or cleanser, the purpose here is to rid the skin of dead cells and to improve circulation. - Next is the bubble wash. This is the most entertaining part of your hammam session. - The final part of the Turkish bath is to cool off with a splash of cold water. 💧 - After your bath you can retreat a lounge or sit in the area to relax sip a tea or juice. 🍹 Visiting a hamam is incredibely rewarding and relaxing experience.
