Varada Sethu as BELINDA CHANDRA in Doctor Who (Season 15)
Ten years since Hell Bent, where the companion is elevated to equal mythic status with the Doctor as she flies off into the stars in an infinite magic box, we get to see how far the companion role has come in The Reality War as the companion is literally shut inside box for the whole episode and given the most sexist ending to a companion in the modern era. Fuck me.

Varada Sethu as Belinda Chandra in the 'The Robot Revolution'
The Doctor, eager to solve a mystery surrounding a woman he meets, but suddenly remembers how he was called out for doing it with Clara and treating her not as a human being but an abstract puzzle for his entertainment, and had to learn not to treat her like shit: I know, I'll just tell her about the mystery this time, that'll do it 😇
Belinda's motives for not wanting to travel with the Doctor make so much sense, within minutes of them meeting someone he promised the stars gets killed in front of them, at the end of the episode he's breaking out the conspiracy wall and testing her DNA without asking, even if her life back home isn't perfect, it's hers and it makes sense she doesn't want to give it up to die horribly on some far away planet. But, I think the thing that's making her character work (besides her being very funny) is that she's still engaging in the world around her.
She tends to the wounded in the base, sacrifices herself to save a world she only found out existed that day, finds the different alien anatomies interesting, is awed at her brief glimpse of outer space. The fact that she doesn't want to be there isn't over-riding her kindness, curiosity, or sense of wonder. Her motive of going home doesn't subsume her other character traits.
Personally, I don't find characters who complain a lot or are resisting the story annoying. However, they often feel static and flat because they're not properly developed beyond their complaint. We've only had one episode with Belinda but in it, and with what's been shown in the trailers, she doesn't seem to be falling into that. She wants to go home, that doesn't mean she's not going to engage with what's around her, be kind to people who need it, or find joy in the good moments she experiences while on that journey.
YOU GUYS IT’S DECEMBER 10TH YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND THIS HAS BEEN IN MY QUEUE SINCE FEBRUARY

Hey Walgreens ... I mean I'm pretty sure the planet of the Time Lords could fix me but I didn't realize there was a prescription available for it

s7 ahsoka you will always be famous
A while back my pharmacist saw my deadname on my profile and accidentially called it out, he corrected and deleted my deadname from the system so only my preferred name shows up now. There was a crowd of people behind me, so as he hands over the pills he apologized, in equal tone and volume as when he called my deadname and lied saying it's been a long day and he didn't mean to call out -his own- name. I quietly told him it was fine and he didn't need to do that for my sake.
His response: "No, it's my name now."
I went to the pharmacist yesterday, his nametag is my deadname. He informed me he's immigrating and in the process he's changed his first name to my deadname to have an English sounding name. That's why he's now able to get a reprint of his nametag to be my deadname. And repeated, with the intense seriousness of someone who is going to die on this hill: "It's mine now. Not yours. I'm taking." His tone indicated that decision is final.
Bro literally deadnamed me once, and has committed to flat out stealing my deadname. It's his now. Legally. Officially. I over heard his co-workers call him by the name.
au where vastra and jenny ask clara to be in a threesome with them
was that not what actually happened??
if clara stole the doctors identity which love interest would she lez out with (for psychosexual reasons)
rose
martha
amy
river
yaz
someone else?
inspired by this ask
idk who else to take this to but do u think if clara ever met rose she would immediately pull a steal your girl maneuver as part of her endless psychosexual obsession of one upping the doctor. because i don't think clara gets jealous. she sees someone who loves the doctor and thinks "i bet I could make you like me even more". am i just a lesbian or am i onto something.
oh i absolutely think if clara met another companion/love interest of the doctor she would immediately try to win them over and also steal the doctors identity while shes at it. i do however think she would have a better chance with martha bc if a hotter more insane version of the doctor showed up and told her they should kiss to make the doctor jealous martha would be on her in a second
"So what are you a doctor of?" "Of lies." "Well, I'm usually quite vague about that. I think I just picked the title because it makes me sound important." "Why, Doctor Oswald, you are hilarious."
