So I wrote a thing. I got inspired really hard and since itâs Trans Day of Visibility, I wanted to pay homage to my lovely transgirl OCâs, Petra and Emily, by allowing them a short little adventure and a new friend. This was emotional to write and I hope that even if you donât follow my Sword Baes stuff, that youâll still enjoy these girls helping out a kindred soul. @transempress @queencharliesshadow @sapphic-alcina-dimitrescu
Trans Day Of Visibility feat. Petra and Emily
A kid, couldnât be more than 12, walked down the street. His arm was broken and he had a bruised eye. Tears streaming down his face as he felt the rain pour in downtown Mantle.
School was rough for him. Every day was a new struggle and bullying never made it any easier. Now, he had to go home and face his parents, who insisted that wearing a dress was for girls, that he wasnât a girl, and that it was all in his head. It made him feel happy to wear it, but as the days wore on, it got harder and harder to wear it proudly. He had to have been born wrong. There's no other explanation. They couldnât be right or he wouldnât feel this way.
Just as he turned a corner, he heard shouting coming from down the road. He saw two figures running out of the fog, one carrying a large stick and another with a saber. Both of them were carrying large sacks and sprinting at full speed. As he looked closer, the sword girl had a red tattoo on her arm and a wild expression on her face. And both of them were coming right towards him.
After a few seconds, several big, burly, tough guys ran out after them and started shooting. âCome back here!â One shouted.
The girl with the stick yelled back, laughing as she did. âSince when has that ever worked? Youâre the ones stealing, not us!â
The girl with the sword clocked the kid and sheathed her sword. âCome on, bud! Itâs not safe around here.â
Bullets came flying in their direction and the girl with the sword rolled in front of the kid and, with a slam of her fist while uttering a few words, a rainbow wall sprang up a few feet away behind them. All of the guys stopped.
The girl with the sword stood up and tipped her hat. âExtorting from families in exchange for fake protection is wrong, boys, but you already knew that. Weâll just be putting this money back where you found it. I have a list after all.â
One guy tried to push through the wall only to burn his hand. âYouâll never get away with this!â
The girl with the staff was leaning against it behind them. âAnd yet we always do. And would you look at that? An empty hideout!â With a click of a button, a bright glow lit behind them as their warehouse burst into flames.
âTell your boss that Lyria said hello. Also, you try this stunt again and I have a couple ideas of some locations you could vacation to.â The girl with the sword said. âMantle is under Sword Baesâ protection and not the fake kind either. Last warning.â
As the guys ran back to their hideout, the girl with the sword turned to see the kid and gasped. âWhat happened, bud?â She said, kneeling down in front of him and clocking the dress he was wearing.
He started to cry again. âThe kids at school. Everyone thinks boys who wear dresses are stupid, but I donât think I was supposed to be this way.â
The girl with the staff knelt down next to them. âWell, you are very brave as you helped us stand up to those guys just now.â She reached in her pocket and pulled out a piece of cloth. âOk, what I want you to do is bite down on this as hard as you can. Iâm Emily and this is Petra. Sheâs gonna fix your arm. Itâs only gonna hurt for a quick second.â
Petra rolled up her sleeve and said, âIâm gonna touch your arm, ok? Just enough to help the spell work. Is that ok?â
The kid nodded and held out his broken arm and, as gently as she could, Petra grabbed the part of his arm and her eyes started glowing red and purple. The tattoo on her arm started to shimmer and he could see a purple light on his arm. With a quick snap, the bone reset and he could feel his arm fix itself. As he reached up with his other arm to touch his eye, he felt no pain.
Emily, the girl with the staff pulled out a mirror. âYou were so brave. Everything look ok?â She said with a warm smile. Emilyâs eyes were pure white. She realized this as he picked up the mirror. âOh, sorry, I need my seeing eye bat. Hold on.â As she said this, a bat crawled out onto her shoulder and its eyes lit up.
The kid gave a little smile. âYeah, it does. Can I pet your bat?â
Emily held out her arm for the bat to crawl onto it. âHer name is Olive and she likes scritches.â He pet the bat gingerly and it looked like Olive was leaning into it.
Petra stood up and looked back at the wall then at the kid again. âYouâre a girl, arenât you?â
The kid gave a slight frown. âMy mom says I was born a boy. Thatâs what they all say. That I was born as a boy and I should stay that way. But I donât like that. I like being a girl.â
Petra smiled and ruffled the kids hair. âThen, a girl you shall be.â She reached up and unzipped a little portal into somewhere, reached in, and pulled out a bunch of ribbons and a necklace. She knelt down again and put the necklace on the kid. He looked at it and it said âShe/Her.â
He looked back up at her as she was handing a ribbon to Emily. âCan you teach her how to tie her hair up?â
Emily gave a really quick lesson and went and stood next to Petra. âYou look gorgeous. That is a very nice dress. I should get me one.â
Petra put her hand on the kidâs shoulder. âWe used to be like you too. We were both born boys and we decided we didnât like that very much. We were always girls and now, weâre happy. And you can be too.â
Emily spoke up. âThat necklace will always end up on your neck no matter who tries to take it unless youâre the one to take it off. And if anyone gives you trouble, weâll be there. Ok, kid?â
The kid nodded. âI promise I wonât lose it.â
Petra smiled. âI know you wonât.â And she handed off the rest of the ribbons to put in her backpack.
As Petra and Emily were walking away, Petra did a quick turn back to the kid and knelt down once more. âI almost forgot to ask your name.â
The kid thought about it. âWell, my mom says itsâŚâ
Petra stopped her. âNo, no, no. I didnât ask what your mom thought your name was. What is YOUR name?â
She thought about it some more. âSadie. My name is Sadie.â
Petra laughed. âAbsolutely it is. Now, Sadie, if you turn 21 and your parents are still giving you crap like they were today, I want you to take one of those ribbons, wrap it around your hand three times and say âSafe and sound.â Do that and who knows? Maybe youâll learn some magic like the stuff I did today, huh?â
Sadie nodded and started running home, much more chipper than she was. Emily wrapped her arms around Petra. âFor a girl that doesnât want kids, you sure work well with them.â
Petra gave a quaint smirk. âShe reminded me of myself when I was that age. I wish people had given me support when I was that young. Sheâs got a long road, but something tells me that, to her, every step will be worth it.â
As the girls walked home in the pouring rain, you could almost see a glimmer of sun as the clouds rolled across the sky.
