Cloth to stitch on (aida/linen/etc)
The floss (or thread but it's called floss for cross stitch)
Needles (research what size for your aida)
Something to hold your project/supplies in
A hoop to hold the fabric or do it by hand (no hoop)
Optional but makes it easier:
A ruler/measuring tape- got to know what you are working with. (Get a keychain version!)
A cross stitch fabric calculator- you put in the w x h # of stitches and it calculates how big your work will be.
A small plate to hold your scissors/floss/etc so it is contained. Also something to hold the floss you cut off.
A needle minder. You put your needle on it to keep up with it
A needle threader, but not those cheap coin shaped ones.
Frogging- removing your work because of a mistake. Buy a seam ripper, it saves a lot of time.
I use a clip to hold the cut of floss so I don't lose it.
Thread snips for cutting floss, not aida. You don't need $25 scissors.
Ziploc bags can hold everything
You can frame with thrifted/dollar tree frames
You can also frame by slapping it on canvas
Ebay is a fun place to look for supplies cheaper, especially cross stitch lots or physical patterns.
Cheap floss can bleed be careful
Knots are not great. Loop start if possible
Plan it out before you start. Measure carefully.
Wash your projects when you are done, especially if you have pets.
They make glow in the dark/glittery/metallic floss. Have fun with it
Be careful of ai generated patterns. They won't turn out right often.
