I have some old poems like these where the poem has more personal meaning in the future compared to when I wrote it. Mentally speaking, I had no idea I'd ever get anywhere close to what the narrator is going through. I wish I had the unconquerable spirit that they do. They're going through the worst of the worst, and yet, they are unbroken. I look up to the narrator immensely. I created my own hero. Poetic. Literally. Lol.

I had a house and a place to live in, but unfortunately it has been completely destroyed and our area is subjected to constant warnings and displacement of the population. I do not have any source of income. Gonna start putting the title w/ the poem instead of leaving it down here. I actually tried following a rhyming scheme (ABACB) and using a meter (iambic dimeter). Both are quite uncommon, lol. Anyways, the poem itself is about one's reflection taking on a personality of its own / not identifying or being satisfied with what you see in the mirror. Or, I guess, the poem is whatever you thought it was about, lol.

Normal

I take a glance,

Down at my hand.

I turn it over and move my fingers,

They look so…normal

This isn’t right!

This shouldn’t be!

This isn’t me!

I feel the panic swelling,

I need to get it out of my sight,

—Or else—my breathing,

Will turn to heaving.

I hold the stance,

That normal is too good for me.

Though, a feeling still lingers,

That my opinion shouldn’t stand,

As I look at my hand.

But there’s no use in dwelling,

On silly thoughts like that.

Usually, my hands are very dry and cracking, but recently they've looked normal, which is very off-putting to me. Recently, when I was in a mental hospital, I looked at my normal hands and almost had a panic attack, I think, which is the original premise of the poem.

All I've been doing is resting.

And I just realized how depressed I've been. And I should be back to normal by now. And I'm not. And I haven't been. And I need to rest. And doing nothing but resting makes me feel like a failure.

But this isn't as simple as a sore throat.

And I'm finally getting a chance to completely recover. And it's from entire months of mental anguish. And I still feel like a fuck-up. And the days now pass by so quickly. And I'm scared that they'll pass too quickly. And I'll wake up on the day of my departure.

And I'll still be recovering.

Try to remember that it's okay to rest, and that it's going to take a while to recover—especially with how you've been feeling. It's a hell of a lot easier said than done, but if you're willing to give yourself some grace, and get help when you need it, you'll recover in due time. Also remember, it's okay to not be okay, and you're doing what you need to.
