As expected, it was only Chrolloâs order that stayed his hand; as such, he couldnât afford to let his guard down. While the Troupe members had thus far proven themselves to be loyal to a fault in regards to their Boss.. human emotion was a wild beast that could overpower any voice of reason. If they acted on impulse, dismissing the consequences.. he had to be ready.
â  ââ .. Business.  â  So.. Chrollo hasnât told them. That was just as well â Kurapika preferred the subject to be kept private for many.. and obvious reasons.
The âbusinessâ, and any insinuation thereof are lost on the jock as he proceeds to produce a beer from cooler sitting by his foot. The troupe liked to keep such things around in case they got thirsty, and they were far easier to move about than a full sized refrigerator. Perhaps to the intruderâs surprise and perhaps not, there is a clanking of glass against glass as the spider produces a second bottle of alcohol.
âThirsty?â He asks, offering one of the cold beverages to the Chain User.  âIf youâre planning on staying might as well be comfortable,â
petyrscrossâ:
âFine. Then Iâll head straight for three that might prove troublesome.â Chrollo diving headlong into the lionâs den to spare the troupe the trouble was nothing out of the ordinary. âTheyâve seen me around and take me for a curious local. Give me a five-minute head start, Iâll try to get at least two of those three separated from the others. You can use explosives to scatter them. I wouldnât get too comfortable around small fry.â They always showed some measure of potential when facing death in the eye. âIn fact, come with me, Phinks. Two curious locals is bound to raise awareness.â
Chrollo was hoping the three troublesome hunters would stick together like good little lambs for slaughter, but the disagreement had sparked ire between those leaders and repelled them.Â
Giving instructions for the rest of them, to first set up the explosives and then wreak havoc at their leisure, the thief hopped off his makeshift throne and shoved hands into the pocket of his jacket, shifting his gaze up to Phinks.Â
âIf you could take one of the three Iâd appreciate. I still donât know what they are capable of, but judging by the weight of their nen, they donât seem like the others.â Chrollo had yet to take into account the possibility of those three not being quite as human as they looked⊠What with the Chimera Ants having received right of citizenship and all.
Phinks nods, agreeing with the bossâs plan as it certainly sounded like a sound idea. The blonde had admittedly never been much of a strategist, but the others could handle the rest of the mission themselves while he accompanied the man in black. This seemed more exciting than just setting up explosives or dealing with the small fries, he didnât know what to expect either, but he was sure they could handle it, especially working together.
âNo problem, Iâll take the one on the left,â
The hunter on the left that he refers to appears to be the shortest of the three, though not by an enormous amount, regardless... itâs not like physical size had anything to do with a hunterâs ability, the Chain Dude was way shorter than Uvogin after all. Ideally, he would be making an easier time for the boss, but there really was no way of knowing other than to test their skills themselves. Phinks could feel it too... they were different from the others.  âIâll follow your lead,â

Admittedly, Illumi hadnât had much of a chance to be properly acquainted with a good portion of the Troupe. He could certainly recognize their faces in a crowd, sure, and he knew of their individual abilitiesâmore than enough to feel like he was content in the knowledge he had about each of them. Kalluto had been quite helpful in filling him in, too, which he appreciated.
Heâs quiet again as Phinks orders for himself, simply studying. His own meal had already been long over by then, but he supposed he could wait around a while longer.
âThatâs what I hear.â If the last couple decades of his life had been any sort of indicator for that point. He certainly wasnât going to make a habit of offering unnecessary responses, though, and the way he lapsed back into his more silent tendencies seemed to imply as much. Illumi brought his mug back to his lips and took an easy sip before moving on.
âAnd here I was hoping for the opportunity to take in some of the local charm today.â Though, he supposed it wasnât like it was going anywhere. Illumi gestured vaguely for Phinks to continue all the same. âIâm listening.â
Man, this guy was still a bit unsettling with how quiet he was, but it was only natural...he was the newest member of the Troupe after all and whatâs more, he was one of only two that werenât from Meteor City like the rest of them. On top of that, the seats in this diner werenât the most comfortable, though being from Meteor City, Phinks had sat on much worse...though it had been some time. Closing his eyes as he takes a deep breath, sighing to try and shake the nerves, cutting into his egg, the yolk a golden hue as it softly spills out over a piece of toast that also had been laid before him by their server. Beside the plate, a scalding hot mug of decaf; cream and sugar added in excess by the blonde after slicing into the breakfast he had been brought. Â
It seemed as though the assassin did not mind his presence and thus Phinks would sit back and relax, a bit more comfortably as he hastily devours his meal. He had yet to eat that day, and was quite hungry... but overeating could be worse, so the small plate of eggs would be more than enough protein for the time being. Â
âBoss found a treasure trove, might get a bit dicey. so figured Iâd offer ya an invite.â

Itâs only once the Spider has returned to her side that sheâs able to obey the nurseâs instruction and relax, although she has to look away when her flesh is pierced to accommodate the IV, burying her face into the posh fabric of his track-suit. It doesnât hurt much â not compared to the pain sheâs endured for more than half a lifetime. Itâs barely a pinch, really.. and once itâs done, they draw blood for tests, and soothe her light-headedness in the wake of it with fluids, vitamins that sheâs likely never felt within her brittle body, and a low-dosage of a painkiller to help with the ache in her lungs.      Theyâre left on their own for awhile as the practitioners contact their radiology department, insisting on images of her chest and lungs, and all the while she never relinquishes the hand heâd offered her in comfort. This place felt so foreign, and not at all safe as sheâd anticipated; everything was too unfamiliar for her to feel comfort.
â  I.. â Iâm s.. s â s-scared.  â  She admits.. but the longer she lies against the soft, clean sheets with the reassurance of his presence, the calmer the place seems. The ache that had begun to spread through her bones is stifled by whatever theyâd fed into her veins.. and itâs the first semblance of relief that sheâs feel in years.
Phinks stands by the girl, concerned for her as he was the one who had brought her to the infirmary. Right now, the young woman from Meteor City was his priority, he would just have to tell the Boss that he wasnât able to show up for the meeting that theyâd scheduled.  âItâs gonna be okay,â Itâs all the Spider can say as he stands over her, a feigned smile crosses his face, trying to comfort her if possible.
His hand is farm as it squeezes hers tightly at her bedside, just hoping to comfort her as much as one man could possibly do. Was this a bad plan? Had he reacted too hastily and bit off more than he could with this girl? The blonde wracks his brain over and over as he remains close to her, waiting for the doctors to return and take whatever x-rays that they needed to do to make sure she would be okay. Â
HxH shirt for mun day.
petyrscrossâ:
Three days from then, Chrollo showed up again, flicking a lighter on and off while seated on top of a dumpsterâs lid. Up until this day, he didnât quite understand the purposes of those in a place crawling with trash⊠so he used them as a seat. Whatever was inside, Chrollo hadnât bothered to check. Whole place smelled of staleness and rot, so much so that heâd gotten used to it after being there for long enough. Did not mean he liked it.
âThere are ten hunters inside, five outside. They seem to have reached some sort of disagreement, so not much has been taken from the place yet.â Chrollo cut straight to business upon sighting a passing jock, as if it hadnât been three days, but an hour, ever since the last theyâd seen each other. âHave you decided how to approach them yet?â Surely, Nobunaga would have wanted to strike a bargain, but Chrollo wasnât certain if Phinks had agreed to it. If need be, the boss could always intervene, but he liked to leave certain matters to the lads as well every now and then. It bred a sense of independence among the spiders in case of his absence. âOut of those hunters, I recognise three of them that might be troublesome. Eight look relatively weak or inexperienced, and the rest I do not know.â
Over the next three days there is a back and forth exchange between Phinks and Nobunaga, discussing and debating with one another as to what course of action to take. This was a sensitive matter because either option had room for failure, and then what? Too tired to deal with the blondeâs constant argument, Phinks manages to get Nobunaga to go with his plan...despite the swordsmanâs many concerns. There is reassurance that they were strong enough to handle everything themselves and it would go much quicker. Phinks seemed rather certain if they tried talking things out it would be a long process and thatâs if they didnât attack them on sight for getting too close.
Feitan had been too busy to accompany them, which would have surely made convincing Nobunaga an easier task. As it were, the group approach the boss, seated on the dumpster like a king to his throne.  âWe decided to take them out. Should be able to handle them no problem,â The swordsman just lets out a sigh, conceding to Phinks... sometimes dealing with the blonde wasnât worth the headache.  âWeâll take the weak ones down first, then the heavy hitters!â It would be like a race for him and Nobunaga to see who could kill more of the hunters faster. As he states the plan, the blonde stands and just looks to the boss, waiting for his approval before striking out to the nest.
songblcdâ:
The woman seems irritated in response to the lack of basic information â but when her colleague persists, she relents, advising that someone will be back to collect more information later. What follows.. is a blur. Sheâs wheeled past the front desk and down a number of hallways, each lined with thin curtains and machines of an unfamiliar nature whilst questions barrage her between the comforting squeeze of the manâs hand around her own.      Are you in pain ? Yes.      Where does it hurt ? My chest, my bones.      Any chance of pregnancy ? Yes.      Blood type ? I donât know.      History of heart or lung problems ? I donât know.      Are you experiencing any other symptoms ?
â  I..  â  She looks anxiously to her companion, then back again, brows drawn tight as she anxiously tightens her grip on his fingers; she doesnât know how to explain what sheâs never been diagnosed with before.  â  .. Iâve always.. had t-t â t.. trouble b.. breathing. I.. I c â .. I c-cough up b.. b â blood.. and.. I get f.. f-fevers.. and my whole b-b.. body aches..  â      The nurse furrows her brows in turn, pensive, but offers reassurance that her symptoms donât sound life-threatening, and that theyâll run a few tests to find out more. They bring her to a private room with a bed thatâs cleaner than any sheâs ever seen in her life; the sheets are pristine and dry, a crisp and unsullied white â and they help her out of her dirtied garment and into a hospital behind the curtain, ushering the man whoâd brought her in behind it to wait, before getting her settled into the bed and preparing an IV to draw blood.       â  â !! W.. w-w â will that h â h-hurt ??  â  She whimpers, eyeing the needle and tube with an anxious fright as fingers close tightly over the sheets that caress her bare knees.  â  M â M.. Mr. Phinks.. !!  â
Listening to her list the numerous symptoms worries Phinks, and almost as strong as the concern was the annoyance at the receptionist for going to ask Mina questions rather than him.  âCanât you see sheâs sick?â The blonde glares daggers into the woman, just hoping to get Mina treated as quickly as possible, not sure exactly how severe her condition was...but he was worried, that was for sure. As she calls his name, he is by her side once more, holding her hand the same as before...her hand is surprisingly cool compared to her forehead.
âIt will be okay, just relax. Iâm here with you and nobody will hurt you,â When they take her back to the examination room, Phinks will remain right there by her side.
songblcdâ:
Goodness, he could be so frightening ! Even when his anger wasnât directed at her, the manner in which he shouted caused her to flinch and draw back; how could such an imposing person be the same man that smiled and reassured her momenta ago ? She has little time to consider it; shortly, a kind woman in white clothes brings a wheelchair to rest behind her, urging her to sit, and she obliges with a soft thanks. A plastic-band is wrapped about a frail wrist while the woman at the desk prods the broad man for more information â last name, age, social security number.. medical history.. most things that she did not have. The people from Meteor City.. there were no records that they even existed.
The woman behind her is already checking her vitals; a tiny device is clasped over her fingertip to test her pulse, and a cool metal piece is slipped beneath the fabric of her dirtied garment to listen to her lungs â the response to which is a furrowed brow, and an urgency in her voice, advising the receptionist that they should get her to a room immediately.. a fact that stirs another swell of fear within her. What had she heard.. ? Was something terribly wrong inside of her body ?
Uhh... the spider stands there looking dumbfounded at the line of questions, he didnât know a single answer, he turns his head to Mina to try and get some answers... if there even were answers to those questions, but it seemed like she was already fully occupied with a nurse taking her Vitals. His attention reverts to the woman at the desk, and his face goes crimson with embarrassment.  âIâm not sure, I only met her a couple days ago. Whyâs any of that matter anyway? Sheâs sick and Iâm paying out of pocket.â
When the nurse seems to ask for a room so urgently, Phinks is immediately at Minaâs side, just as worried as she was it seemed, though he wouldnât let her see that, instead holding her hand firmly with the same reassurance that had been shown in the car... What was wrong with her?
songblcdâ:
Heâs so kind.. yet, so simple-minded. Did he really believe that if her body was beyond repair, he could still help.. ? She turns her gaze down, still doubtful.. but she forces herself to move forward, her steps slow and measured as they cross the threshold of the automatic doors. The smell of antiseptic is so strong that it burns her nostrils; sheâs more accustomed to the stench of rot and filthy. Her clothes betrayed as much; the hospital staff would surely believe sheâd been brought in off the street.
She doesnât raise her head or speak to anyone.. not yet, too visibly nervous in the unfamiliar environment to discern what it is that she should say to these strangers. It wasnât in a Meteoriteâs nature to ask for help of anyone from the outside. Rather.. it simply wasnât worth the wasted breath. One could only hear brutal rejection so often, after all. Still.. she wavers in place, her fever rising and a deep ache setting into her bones â oh, no. Itâs happening again. She wonders how quickly it will set in this time.. how long it will last. She gently tugs at Phinksâs sleeve, murmuring in a hushed tone.       â .. I â I-Iâm.. u â uhm..  â  How could she explain this.. ?  â  .. Iâm.. not g â .. g.. going to be able.. to s-s â .. to s â s-stand f.. f-for much longer.  â
The air is much cleaner than that of Meteor City, the antiseptic in the air assaults Phinksâs nostrils as well who much preferred it outside, but at this point there was little else he could do. Always hated hospitals, but one of the doctors here was pretty good when it came to patching up bullet holes, though that was a much different skillset than was required for the task at hand. Phinks approaches the counter, seemingly out of place in his gaudy tracksuit, is stark contrast to the sterile white walls.  âHey, I wanna check this girl in... sheâs real sick. Nameâs Mina.â
When the scarlet haired girl tugs on his sleeve and speaks, the brutish blonde nods before looking back at the receptionist with a more intimidating look this time, a scowl across his sharp features and a menacing glare... if looks could kill.  â...and get her a damn wheelchair!â
songblcdâ:
The gentle touch draws her attention away from the building and up to the worried expression on the manâs face. She canât hide her uncertainty.. but if he truly wishes to help her, how could she refuse ? Kindness like this.. it was almost too tremendous to believe â and certainly too beneficial to pass up, no matter the risk.
     â  Itâs.. so big. â I.. Iâve.. never b-b â been somewhere.. like this b â .. b-before.  â  She admits, hands falling to her stomach to wring themselves there.  â  I â I donât know.. what theyâre g â g.. g â going t-t.. to do to m-m â m.. me in there. â What if.. what if they t-t.. tell me Iâm d â .. dying ? I.. Iâm s-s â Iâm s.. scared..  â
He almost wants to laugh, but knows that it will only further whatever nerves that she may have at the moment. Phinks simply looks her in the eyes and gives a smile...hoping that it isnât too intimidating for her. Gently, the blonde takes her by the hand reassuringly, hoping that it will be enough for her to believe him.
âWell, if they say that, then Iâll just have them fix you.â And if they couldnât do that, he would beat them up until they got him somebody who could.
songblcdâ:
Itâs bliss, really â sheâs spent so long sleeping on unforgiving stone or waste with one eye open that in such a cool, comfortable place it was impossible not to rest ! She could have slept for ages in the cradle of the leather interior, if not for the gentle stirring from the man upon their arrival. Her body objects to the separation from slumber, but with a heavy fog hanging over her eyes, she pays heed to his request. The anxious hesitation in her body language is louder than her lips have ever spoken; the building is massive, and their surroundings are foreign in ways that she could not possibly express. The far-off lights of the entertainment district are out of sight for now.. or else, she might have been entirely overwhelmed.
Her fear is palpable, as is the flush of fever dusting her pallor. Thin hands twist nervously against her breast, knees drawn tight as she steps into the shadow of the gargantuan structure. Sheâs never been inside of a building like this.. she can hardly believe that sheâs even here, and the ignorance of what to expect is suffocating.
He feels like such a jerk waking her up like that, but she could sleep after she sees a doctor, she would be okay and he would be the one to make sure of that. When she awakes though and some of the grogginess leaves her eyes and what remains is fear...sheer terror at the sight of the massive structure in front of them.
âHey, you okay?â He asks, worried about her already, so the fear etched across her face certainly wasnât helping... what was he even doing? He had no idea how to take care of someone. A deep breath is inhaled sharply through his nose, as the blonde places a single hand oh so gently upon Minaâs shoulder.  âIâm coming in with you, no need to worry.â

Continued from x // @traxsuit-pharaoxâ
âDid you? I hadnât noticed.â
Most legs of the Spider grew up with little to nothing in personal possession, fueling creativity to ease the strain of lethargy. The extent of their physical strength had been tested during a tedious Friday night, awaiting the instructions to the next heist the Troupe had spent the time with a series of arm wrestling which eventually had resulted into a fullblown challenge with matching ranking and prizes. The blonde had been ranked as second back then, a straight forward exchange of fist would spell loss for her before it had even started.Â
As a thief, she played by her own rules rather than abiding those set for her.
And so, the man had been floored when he thought he was bathing in the light of success. A grin indicating her amusement was plastered to the usual stoic features of her face, arms crossed defiantly before her petite frame. âIs that a blush I see?â Machi teased.
He should have expected as much from her, Machi was definitely smart enough to know she couldnât match him physically, especially after their arm wrestling tournament all those nightâs ago. He was an idiot to think it would be a simple fist fight, after all... within the spiders, trickery was to be expected. Winning was everything, that was something that living in Meteor City taught them all. Their nothing made them strong, it forced them to fight to gain possessions and allowed them to own more than just the skin on their back.
âI wasnât blushing, just fell on my damn face.â An obvious lie, as the blondeâs cheeks redden further, the girlâs teasing clearly hitting a sensitive nerve as he forces himself back up to his feet, dusting off his overpriced tracksuit in the process.  âI wonât fall for that twice,â
songblcdâ:
Oh, goodness.. within only a few minutes, it was so very cool within the confined space â a respite from the heat that sheâd never known beyond winterâs ruthless grasp. It soothes the fever in her blood.. but the sudden roar of the engine spikes her heart-rate, and the speed with which they take off doesnât help her nerves any ! Sheâs never been in a moving vehicle before, and itâs every bit frightening as it is exciting. Her attention is rapt when he encourages her toward a lever alongside the seat, and with a firm tug â she falls backward by almost a foot, gasping as sheâs caught with a rough bounce by the headrest before dissolving into a fit of embarrassed laughter, hushed by her grizzly cough. Itâs only when sheâs softened herself against the recline that she notices how heavy her body feels, the pain in her skull beginning to throb in time with her heart. From this position, she canât see through the windows.. and thus, canât really gauge how quickly theyâre moving. Itâs less nerve-wracking for her that way; she can hardly feel the motion at all, in fact.. even less when she closes her eyes..
.. and before she knows it, sheâs drifted into a deep slumber.
About two hours pass, the gas light comes on and Phinks enters the city running on fumes as he reaches the hospital, nicer than any building in Meteor City. The bright lights of all the skyscrapers and the neon glow of a street full of bars and casinos makes it seem like itâs still daylight... some of the buildings glow brighter than the sun ever seemed to get in Meteor City. The blonde parks the vehicle in the â emergency only , â  in true Spider fashion, not giving a damn about rules or regulations.
Phinks gently shakes the sleepy passenger, reluctantly disrupting the only comfortable sleep she would have likely had in years.  âHey, wake up. Weâre at the hospital.â
