A Xmas Gift to You

Heyyo! This is a haikyuu secret santa gift for @kkenmah . I’m new at all of this (like, literally, the whole thing) but i hope you’ll like it.

It was Christmas Eve, but it does not mean there is no practice for Nekoma High volley club. The chill wind of winter outside instantly diminished when one stepped into the gym. Body heat mixed with sweat permeating the room as the sound of ball banging and shoes squinting all over court. At the sound of a whistle, everything went to a halt.

Team members huddled around the coach as he reviewed today’s training. Mishaps and misfits contended with critics and suggestions to do better next time. Dismissed, everyone raced to the showers, with one lagging behind. Kenma did not see the point of having to add another rushed run after all day running around chasing a ball. He enjoyed his leisure walk, trotting behind, while observing his team mates ahead. A smile crept up just on the corner of his lips as he let out a sigh, seeing his loud yet trusted team mates being overly rowdy, when he noticed his phone rang.

He chuckled. Nothing could pass up not connecting to volley when it came to his friends. Just as his name implied, he was utterly bright and cheerfulness infect everyone around him. Even Kenma’s infected, and he was miles away. He always missed seeing him. Not everyone clicked with him and his personality, but Hinata, even though his personality differs 180 degrees from him, somehow, he could connect with him. They quickly became messaging buddies.

Reminiscing how he first met him ages ago kept that smile on his face all the way. He replied swiftly as he could, in his own style, expressing his sincere wish of a happy holiday to his friend.

Early in Christmas morning the next day, Kenma, usually do not wake up in this time of day, especially rest day, yet his consciousness was tugged by a continuous ring on the edge of his hearing.

I didn’t set any alarm. What is that sound?

With half-opened lid, he waved roundabout the bed to search for the source of the sound. As he grabbed it, he peeked to the screen.

Shouyo?

Eyes wide open, he scrambled up and picked up his phone. At first, there was no sound, only muffled cries, seemed a bit faraway from the phone. He barely made up what the other side was saying, however, a familiar voice cheerily swept in.

“MERRRRRRYYYYYY CHRRIISSSTMAASSSSS, KENMAAAAAAAA!!!!”

He had to move his phone out of the way to reduce damage to his hearing, when Hinata shouted.

“Shouyo, merry christmas to you too.” He replied, happy that he could hear Hinata’s voice after a while,”such an occasion that needs to be said out loud, isn’t it? I remembered we had just have our greetings exchanged yesterday.”

“Well, we have to do it again on The Day! Once is just not enough! And besides...”

“Hn?”

“Occasional text messages are fine. But, at times like these, you could feel the spirit if you say it straight away to the one you intended to wish your greetings to. So, again, have a wonderful christmas, Kenma!! Hurry and open up your presents!!”

Silly Hinata, he already opened up the best christmas present of them all.
