Completely impossible stolen valor is one of my favorite bits
*completely stone faced* I'll never forget the screams of the horses and men at agincourt...
*reading a post about Roman crucifixion* fuuccck i didn't know there was a word for that... it explains so much about my trauma....
Game where the ancient hero is awakened from the deathless sleep of centuries in the hour of their people's greatest need, only to find that civilisation is thriving and there are no obvious threats on the horizon; the game then becomes a fish-out-of-water detective sim as they try to figure out what woke them up, and also solve other, smaller mysteries along the way.
the funniest gift i've ever gotten was from one of my cis guy* friends who knew i was lesbian and wanted to be supportive, so they found a queer pin store and chose one of them to get me. and, oh god.
the scream i scrumpt
[ID: A pin shaped like two pairs of scissors which are opened and facing each other so that they are almost completely interlocked. One of them is pink and the other is blue, and both of the blades are white. End ID]
wannabee twitter already bending the knee to terfs
If we are ever going to stop this, then you guys need to start learning why this happens.
And it's not always because some executive made a decision to favor a TERF. It's because the technology is broken in a way TERFs have learned to use to their advantage.
So content moderation is a HUGE task. It is incredibly inefficient to manually monitor all user reports-- when you "flag" something as spam or inappropriate or 'inciting harm' (what Blueskye is saying the banned users had in their posts). So what actually happens is that the bulk of it is reviewed by machine. The precise "how" is a bit of a black box (if you say exactly, it makes it more vulnerable to being bypasses), but we generally know it's a bit of machine learning ("ai", but not he chatgpt kind) and a bit of automation. Generically this gets referred to as an "algorithm" (which is a meaningless word I don't have time to unpack here).
The TERFs have a formula. A battle plan, if you will. I've been watching them use it for almost a decade. And they play social media sites like a fiddle every single time.
The way it works is that they coordinate attacks on targets they dislike. (Usually trans people, but ace discourse is a notable example of targets not necessarily fitting that demographic.) They send links to each other of posts to report. They'll flag it for whatever the nearest thing they can is. The blueskye users were wishing ill to JK Rowling, so "inciting harm" was the excuse selected. "Inappropriate or sexually explicit content" is a common selection for other trans content.
Then what happens is the content moderation "algorithm" sees a huge influx of reports for a certain post or user. And instead of making a human manually review all of that, it automatically initiates a ban or takedown. And if the "algorithm" has word censorship built in, it will begin to auto-flag for things containing words in posts frequently flagged, so it begins to auto-flag the word trans itself.
This has been happening for almost a decade. There was a trans youtuber who proved TERF hater group chats flagged his videos so much that it started auto-demonitizing identical videos with the word trans in the title, but leaving ones without the word alone. I strongly suspect this is why we see huge amounts of trans women banned for no reason on tumblr. And this is clearly what is happening now.
How do we fix it? There's no easy solution. All the things about the "algorithm" that make moderation easier for the social media platforms are the exact reasons it's so difficult to defeat. It's hard to teach a machine what's a genuine flag and a malicious one. Again, it's been almost a decade since the issue was raised with youtube, and there has yet to be a solution for rooting out malicious coordinated flagging.
But here's one thing that can help: get TERFs off of social media. Stop letting them bait you into petty fights. Learn how to identify them. Block and report them.
The Yugioh world championships are in France this year and apparently Macron appeared on the official live stream to wish the players good luck which is insane in and of itself but it also resulted in one of the craziest unedited pictures of a politician in history:
trans people will literally go “i have a complicated relationship with my history with gender and sometimes see it as a gender i ‘used to be’ and i don’t really look like a cis person of either gender and i don’t think i can fit it into simple categories” and everyone will spontaneously combust
i remember being at some lgbtqia+ group when i was at an all girl’s school and i was one of two trans people, i was the only butch or even vaguely masculine person in the room, and i said something along the lines of “i consider myself a guy who used to be a girl” and five minutes later one of my friends(if you would say that ig) went “yeah so he was always a boy, he just didn’t know it yet” about me. and i had to stand there like What Did I Just Say. Can Anyone Hear Me
now i make posts like “sometimes trans men used to be girls and sometimes trans women used to be boys and it’s ok if we think about it like that” and everyone immediately acts like they want me dead
"It Was Fun Being Her" (2024), Acrylic on Canvas
Im transmasc and this is an artwork I made for a queer exhibit in my uni. The relationship I have with my hair is one directly related to my transness. I really did grow up as a girl, and this work is celebrating that part of my life, while also embracing the part of myself that is now changing and becoming someone else.
the morbius jokes got stale fast but sony misunderstanding them and rereleasing the movie only to cause it to lose even more money was an all timer moment. we couldnt recreate that situation if we tried
im a fucking sucker for the “character gets so badly injured that they can’t think clearly and start calling for help in a distressingly vulnerable way.” characters who start using nicknames for their friends they haven’t used since they were kids. characters who start begging for their brother they haven’t seen in years to be there. characters who would usually use their parents’ names or call them mother/father/etc crying out mama when they go down. u understand.
Characters who are so closed off abouf their past calling out a name their new friends have never heard before
No wait that’s actually an amazing idea
#Who DOESN'T already have ideas for their characters going through this in case you ever get the chance to make it real#Also a flipside: a character being so carefree and happy (almost asleep or drugged fx) that they say a name no one recognizes-#-and they act way more natural and happy until reality sets in and you see them harden back into the version you're familiar with
(via @gaminegay) GET PEER-REVIEWED HELL YEAH.
ALSO, very weak to: (character) in distress being interacted with by other people and hazily addressing them as a parent, a former lover, an old friend, a sibling, all the other great things on this thread! Who they think the person is, and what they say to them--run or help or it hurts or but I thought you were--adds a whole chewy subtext and opportunities for character parallels that I find delicious.
I have a question about this image of Xanathar's Thieves Guild.
Why does he have sexily lounging elf boys?
I ask because I cannot imagine a beholder being attracted to anything other than itself. Does he just understand Sexily Lounging Elf Boys to be a status symbol, and he wants anyone who visits to know he can afford Sexily Lounging Elf Boys?
Maybe I'm the asshole here for assuming. Maybe these boyfriends are master tacticians here to advise Xanathar, they happen to like wearing leather pants and no shirts and I should be less quick to reduce them to sex objects.
I don't care, I love it, this is all I can think of every time I see it:
I think we as a society don't hate ads enough. We can always hate them more you know.
I really wish there was an option on those Customer Service Surveys that says specifically, “The representative I spoke to was lovely and helpful and deserves all of the raises but I think that you, as a corporation, should die in a fire.”
hey as somebody who works in one of those companies that sends out those surveys, never, NEVER mention how much you hate the company in them. just talk about the representative. then, go to the company’s social media page and blast your bad reviews there
those surveys decide our pay, they decide whether we get bonuses or not, they decide if we get to keep our jobs or not. i’ve read transcripts on surveys where it’s has been praising the representative but mentioned one bad thing about the company. that fell to the representative because they should have been enough to sway the customers opinion.
Hey just to add on, if you liked the representative, and the survey is asking for opinions on a scale of 0-10… please give the rep 10′s across the board. Don’t try to be thoughtful and detailed and put down a 7 or an 8 or a 9. A lot of times anything below a 9 or 10 counts as a zero (no, for real) and guess who it comes back to? That’s right, the customer service rep.
At my job anything below a 10 is zero and our store is graded on our survey % so if anyone even puts 9s across the board it’s a 0 in the end and heavily brings down our stores score- which can lead to firings,
corporations: more horrible than i thought
Saw this at a McDonald’s once and when my dad worked at Kohls they had a similar policy. Always mark highly satisfied if you were happy with your service
corporate is full of insane morons that lack humanity for charts like this to exist
Oh is this not common knowledge yet?? This applies to literally any situation in which you’re asked to give customer feedback on any kind of scale. Anything short of pure 10/10 can get someone written up, cost them some pay or cost them their entire job. I was doing food delivery a year ago and enough people gave me 4/5 instead of 5/5 on the app that my overall score bordered on only a 90% or whatever and if it dropped just a point below that I’d have been booted permanently out of the system. This was also my only source of income at the time other than patreon, which just covered our rent, so this was my only source of money for gas or clothes or anything else. For some people it’s their only source of income INCLUDING rent……..or they literally just live in their car that they use to do these deliveries. Give perfect 10′s to every single employee of every type of business if you don’t want to risk putting somebody out on the street, for real.
What the sneef? I'm snorfin' here!
For every post discussing fatphobia on here there are 10 skinny people in the notes who have supposedly been encountered by the nefarious "burger man" who tells people to eat more burgers
Hey! All of your drawings do not need to be completely unique from one another. Do you know how many versions and replicas of his Sunflowers Van Gogh actually did? Just draw that naked guy ten times. Reuse that colour palette. Do that pose again. Follow your heart for real, no one can care as much as you do.
if silksong really does release at 20 dollars i need it to outsell god
im sorry this is not a very pirate all games opinion of me but as much as i believe that its okay to pirate anything i know people still buy stuff and i need triple a companies to see that a game that was in development for seven years out of the pure passion of developing releases for a measly 20 dollars and still outsells their games
Confirmation: it is, in fact, $20
yeah actually we removed the big bad wolf from the little red riding hood story because portraying violence against minors is really messed up. yeah. yeah also the wolf narrative was really predatory and had had some icky grooming vibes and a fable meant for literal children shouldn’t have implied p*do shit and grape so now little red riding hood goes into the woods and nothing happens and she goes to grandma’s house. don’t worry our kids will still stick to the path and know not to follow to wolves implicitly because we told them to and children should always do as their told. just like little red riding hood does now.
