Stretching your arms above your head and pointing your feet as you wake up. Feeling your muscles protest the strain, sore from your trek through the forest yesterday. You could feel that your face was swollen, having to force your eyes open to see your way to the bathroom.
After taking your pain killers given to you by Patrick, you soaked a washcloth in cold water, pressing it to your face, hoping that it would bring the swelling down some. If nothing else, the cold fabric left good on your skin. The purple and blue bruise around your nose had spread under your eyes and across your cheeks, making you look like you had been punched in both eyes and the nose. No amount of make up would cover that and with the swelling, which was slightly better now, you knew that make up would be more of a bother than anything today.
After a long shower, letting the warm water hit your back muscles to help them relax, you had changed into a pair of black jeans and a black t-shirt. Nothing fancy, but okay for whatever the guys had in store for you today.
You looked at your phone as your stomach growled at you, realizing you slept more than you intended. It was already 1pm. But after everything that happened yesterday and the meeting in the middle of the night you had JK and Tae, you knew you needed the rest. Wondering if the left overs from the pasta you made last night was still in the fridge, you called down to the kitchen to see if they could bring it up to you.
You didn’t want to tell them that you also still didn’t really trust any food that wasn’t made by you yet. Even with the pasta, you were going to be hesitant since it had been out of your sight for so long. When you called the kitchen you heard the familiar voice of Catherine, and she promised someone would bring it to you soon.
Only a couple moments after talking with Catherine, you heard a knock on your door. You knew the staff was quick, but not that quick. Confused, you opened the door, also surprised it opened without the lock on the other side being opened, when your heart skipped a beat seeing Yoongi with a box under his arm and a couple power tools in his hands. “I saw you’re finally awake.”
“What?” Your stomach dropped and you started to look around your room for cameras.
“Calm down. I could see your phone moving around the room with its tracker.” He pointed his head at your left hand, looking at the phone you held.
“Oh.” Looking back at him and everything he is carrying.
“I got the thumb print scanner for your door, finally.”
“And you’re installing it? You don’t have people for that?” You still held the door handle, leaning on it a little.
He moved towards you, stopping just in front of you and setting the tools and box on the floor between the two of you. “We do. But when it’s something as important as this, I like to do it myself.”
You nodded at him, standing at the door, still holding the handle on the inside, not sure what to do with yourself. The devil and angel back on your shoulders fighting it out with your emotions. After the kiss with him last night, your stomach did flips seeing him, knowing what the feeling of him against you and his soft lips against yours felt like. But also remembering who he was and why he was here in the first place souring your stomach and making it turn even more. “Do you need me for anything or can I do my own thing?”
“Yeah, could you actually hold this for me?” He dropped a large metal flashlight into your hand, only giving you a side glance before putting the rest of his tools and the box on the floor in front of your door. You rolled your eyes at the back of his head as he knelt down with one knee on the floor. You sat fully on the ground behind him with a dramatic sigh, much preferring to be in your bed reading or really doing anything else but this right now.
Yoongi set to work on the door, asking you to hold the beam of the flashlight he gave you, at the lock above the door handle. He would grumble at you when you would get distracted day dreaming and the light would drift one way or the other. Trying to find anything interesting to keep your mind busy, you watched him work. He had both knees on the floor now, as he removed the old standard lock from the door and started putting the new digital one in place. “All our prints are already programmed in.” He said over his shoulder at you.
“Even mine?” You sat up a little at that, hoping that you wouldn’t have to call them every time you want to do something.
He let out a small laugh, “No not yours. You still need to be supervised when walking around.”
You sat up, turning your legs under you so that you were on your knees next to Yoongi now. “I’m not a child who needs a babysitter all the time you know?”
He was screwing the face of the small screen onto the base, having to scrunch his face a little at the strain of securing the screw into place. The pop of his bicep catching your eye. You had to look away quickly hoping he didn’t see you. “It’s for your own safety more than anything.”
“If you guys just showed me the rooms to stay out of, that would help a lot.”
“Well what’s stopping me from getting up and walking out into the hall right now while you’re distracted?” Testing him and your limits.
“Well me, for one.” He stated like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“Please, you’re no JK with those muscles.”
He looked at you, with a similar look you saw on Tae and JK’s faces a few hours ago. Jaw locked, and stern eyes. You wondered if you were pushing him too much while he was just trying to get this task done and go back to his cave of a room.
“They seemed just fine yesterday over there.” Nodding his head over to the space he cornered you and kissed you last night. You would be lying to yourself if you said you didn’t enjoy the kiss before your brain caught up with itself and realized what you were doing. But the memories of his body pressed up against yours, your lips moving in time with each other, his wide chest under your hands, it made a warm feeling slide down your spine settling low in your stomach.
“You’re thinking about it.” He said with a slight smirk.
Realizing you had been staring at the corner from last night, you shook your head trying to get the memory of him out of your head. “And what if I was?” You said sounding bored with him.
“I don’t know, you seemed really into it until you ran away.” He stood to his full height, his body blocking most of the doorway and pulled his phone out from his pocket and held it up to the new lock.
Realizing you were now eye level with his crotch you scrambled to stand up in front of him. “I was surprised and wasn’t thinking clearly.”
He just hummed in response as he moved through different apps and systems on his phone. You looked at him more clearly this time, the way his long hair fell into his eyes, his broad shoulders blocked the door frame, the way he bit his lip in concentration at whatever he was doing on his phone, not paying attention to you.
You didn’t know what you were doing as you walked closer to him. Your internal battle of crossing a line with these men screaming at you. But you had to be honest with yourself, the man in front of you was hot, and obviously thought you were, enough to make out with you last night not five feet from where you were. Would it be too wrong to test it again?
“Fuck it.” You said under your breath before you grabbed Yoongi’s face and pulled his face to yours. Smashing your lips on his. He sucked in a surprised breath as his body went tense, not sure what was happening. But that only lasted a moment before you heard the phone he was holding, fall to the floor, his left hand came to hold your waist and his right hand tangled in your hair, pushing your face closer to his. He deepened the kiss and took control as you moved your lips with his.
You moved your hands up into his hair and moved forward to bring your bodies flush together as you tried to silence the alarms in your brain about how bad of an idea this was. But your foggy memory of last night when you panicked did not do this justice. His hold on you was firm as you relaxed into him, but the kiss was slow and soft like you two had done this million times. I’m
This time he was the one to break the spell, pulling back but not releasing his hold on you. Staring down at you, “Well this is quite the 180.” The corner of his mouth pulling up into a slight smirk.
You had to take a deep breath to steady yourself, looking back up at him. “Yeah, don’t get used to it.” You started to move backwards out of his hold and he let you. Letting his arms fall to his sides. “That was just to answer a question for myself.”
“Oh, and what question is that?” He stood back a bit, crossing his arms across his chest and looking at you with a proud smirk.
“Wouldn’t you like to know.” You turned around and walked into your bathroom, locking the door behind you. It was mostly for the drama and leaving him confused, but you also come in here so that you could breathe for a minute. Shocked at yourself that you actually kissed him on your own. And you didn’t lie to him, this did answer something for you. That the devil on your shoulder won the battle.
For a few minutes after you went into the bathroom you heard Yoongi continue to get the lock on your door installed, until you heard the sound of the door closing and a high pitched beep sound, and then nothing. You slowly opened the bathroom door, hoping that meant he was gone. You looked around the room and even in your closet and there was no sign of him or anyone else for that matter, lurking and waiting for you.
You walked over to your bed and flopped down on your back, arms spread to the side as you stared at the ceiling. Still shocked at not only yourself for kissing him like that, but also the fact that he didn’t push you away, instead embracing you and seemingly enjoying the moment.
A knock came from your door as you were running through all the consequences this could cause, your heart dropping wondering if it was Yoongi because he forgot something, or continue what you started. You slowly sat up on the bed, looking across the room at the door like it was going to shift into a monster. Another knock echoed through the room, this one a little louder and longer than the first. You heard the high pitched beep again, figuring that was the new lock signaling the door was now open, before the door cracked open, and you saw Jin’s face pop into the room.
You breathed a sign of relief at seeing it wasn’t Yoongi, but a second later, your eyes going big and your body stiff. The last time you had seen him was in the shack in the woods before he left you there to fend for yourself.
“Oh good you’re awake.” He walked into the room, swinging your door wide. “And I’m glad Yoongi was able to change out your lock, I was tired of having to carry a key ring around.” He said with a laugh.
You were still just looking at him, scared that he was going to either take you back into the woods or something even worse. As punishment for what? You weren’t sure. Kissing Yoongi maybe?
“Let’s get some lunch.” He said as a statement, not a question.
“The kitchen was supposed to send up some here any moment. Besides, I look like I just went three rounds in the octagon. Not sure you want me to be seen with you.”
“Not today. And you are beautiful as always.” He approached you still sitting on your bed as you backed up a little on to it to put some space between you. He held his hand out to you from a few feet of the bed. “Come on, I have a surprise.” He had a light smile on his face, but you were still not sure about him. “It doesn’t involve any drugs or the woods.” Almost like he could read your mind. He held his hand up making a scout salute with the three middle fingers on his right hand, his left hand going to his heart. “I promise.”
You eyed his hand for another moment, debating if you could trust him. But you decided to keep your new attitude of just going for it and also curious about what he had planned. You slid to the end of the bed and took his hand and stood in front of the tall man.
Looking down at you with soft eyes and the corner of his mouth going up in a half smile. “I think you’ll actually like this. You will need actual shoes, not your slippers though.” Still holding your hand between the two of you, his thumb moving across your knuckles.
You nodded and moved to your closet picking out your favorite pair of Vans that not only went with the jeans and t-shirt you were already wearing, they were comfortable for whatever Jin had planned. After slipping your shoes on, you meet Jin at your door that was still standing ajar.
“Do I get to know where we are going?” You said as you walked out of your room and into the hallway with him.
“Nope, like I said, it's a surprise.” A slight chill went down your spine and your empty stomach churning, even though he was the picture of friendly, you were still nervous.
You walked together through the house, watching staff move from room to room and through the halls around you. After a few turns, going down the main staircase to the first floor of the mansion, and then another couple hallways, Jin finally stopped at a door at the end of a particularly long hallway. He scanned his index finger on the touch pad above the handle of the door that matched the new one now on your door. The display lit green and made the same beep noise yours did, before he opened the door, holding it open for you to walk in first.
“We’re leaving?” You looked at him over your shoulder, eyebrows pressed together confused. He had brought you to a large garage that was lined with at least a dozen expensive looking cars, and you noticed a couple motorcycles at the far end as well. It looked like a show room, with matte black floors contrasting the bright white walls and rows of led bar lights on the ceiling reflecting in the curves and shine of the cars.
He closed the door behind him and pressed a button on this side, making sure it locked, before he reached behind you to a box inlaid in the wall picking out a set of keys hanging in the middle. “I thought it might be good to get out of this place for a little bit.”
He started walking towards a deep red Porche Paramera parked in the middle of the garage, you followed close behind but also eyeing all the other sport cars and SUVs neatly parked in two rows facing each other. “Does Namjoon know about this?”
“Of course, I ran it past him this morning.” The Porches' lights lit up as he approached the vehicle and went to the passenger side, letting you pass him and then opening the door for you. You held on to the door of the car, as you sat in the low seat and Jin closed the door once you were fully inside the car.
You pulled on your seat belt as he went around the vehicle and sat in the driver's side seat. He pressed a button on the dash making the car roar to life and the inside lights illuminate. The inside was lit in a purple glow, as the LED accent lights around the car came to life.
His eyes went to you as he looked that your seatbelt was on, “Ready?”
You let out a slight laugh, “I guess so.” He looked at you for a beat before turning back straight in his seat, putting the car in gear and driving out of the garage.
You almost didn’t believe what was happening as you watched the mansion get smaller in the rear view mirror. Looking out the side window you watched the manicured grounds and flower beds pass by as Jin sped down the gravel driveway. As you were waiting for the large gate of the grounds to open Jin turned to you, “Before we actually leave I want to make 2 things very clear.” You turned in your seat to face him a little bit, nodding at him that you were listening and to go on.
“And this goes for any of us, if you leave the grounds. Number one, you are always safe with us no matter what, as long as you do as we say.” You nodded again at him in agreement. “And number two, don’t even think about trying to run. Your tracker is accurate within two feet, we will find you, and you will not like what happens when we do.” Your eyes grew big taking in his words, your mind flashing to the ominous Black Box room Joon mentioned before.
“Easy enough rules.” You said forcing a smile on your face.
“Good. Then let’s get some lunch.” He put the car in gear again and sped out of the gates and back towards the city.
You watched as the scenery around you shifted from woods and fields, not seeing another car or person for several minutes, to the skyscrapers and bustling city you knew. The last few days had been such a whirlwind and so much happened you almost forgot about the world moving around you. Being back in the city you were born and raised in and loved, felt so good, you almost forgot about who was sitting next to you and why you were with them. Neither of you spoke on the drive, just listening to the soft rock music coming through the speakers. And you really weren’t sure what to say. Not twenty four hours ago this man was drugging you and leaving you in the woods, and now was acting like nothing happened and like you two were friends. It was suspicious to say the least, but you were just happy to be out of the mansion. You felt like you could breathe a little seeing the familiar streets and shops going by.
Jin drove the two of you to the east side where Trevor worked and lived and when you were together, wanted you to move to. The thought of Trevor took you aback, you had almost forgotten that he was dead after everything that happened after.
Jin must have noticed the change in your breathing and how you were trying to hold back the tears that threatened to spill down your face. “You okay over there?”
You jumped a little at the first words he spoke to you in almost 45 minutes since you left the mansion. You wiped your eyes quickly, trying to get the most of the tears to stop. “Yeah I’m good.” Was all you said.
“You’ve been quiet. I’m kind of surprised. I expected you to have a lot to say and questions for me since we’re away from everyone.”
You just shrugged your shoulders in response. Knowing if you spoke it would not be confident and you didn’t want them to see any more cracks that they could use against you. You were supposed to find theirs to get out of this situation, not the other way around.
Quiet washed over the car again, you could hear the sounds of the people walking around you and the traffic of the city over the soft music still playing through the car. At a stop light you watched all the different people walking through the crosswalk in front of you. Everyone in perfectly pressed suits, styled hair, coffee in one hand and phone in the other. You remember the long mornings you had making hundreds if not thousands of those same coffees at your now, old job.
“Did you ever have a normal job?” You asked him, not taking your eyes off the blur of people in front of you.
“I did yeah.” The crosswalk cleared and the street light turned green as he revved the car to continue down the city street. “I was a chemist. Our office was actually not far from here.”
That made you snap out of your own head and turn to look at him as he spoke.
“Our company made a lot of different things, but I was in the pharmaceuticals division. I helped develop a lot of different medications that started out with good intentions, but my team and I put our trust in the corporation and they did a lot of bad with them. We asked one too many questions I guess, and our division was shut down one day.” He didn’t take his eyes off the road in front of him. But his grip on the stirring wheel was getting tighter, knuckles starting to turn white from the tension.
“When I met Namjoon, we agreed that you can’t stop people from doing drugs, but you can make them cleaner for the people using them. Some of my team now were the same people from that company actually.”
“I’m surprised they jumped ship from corporate, to work for a gang making street drugs.” So said with a small laugh.
“Oh they’re good people.” He said with a wave of his hand. “And we treat them better than a corporation would.”
“So not everyone on staff has been kidnapped and had their life turned upside down then?”
He pulled the car over to the curb and turned his body as he rested his left arm on top of the stirring wheel and his right was in the console between the two of you, only an inch from your arm “No that’s only for our special guests.” He winked at you, feeling the air around you shift.
“We’re here by the way.” His eyes shifted behind you to the building he had parked in front of. He started to get out of the car when your door opened and a young man in black slacks, white button down and a black vest held his hand out for you to hold as you stepped out and onto the sidewalk. You gave him a small smile and thanked him as Jin came around the car, meeting you where you stood. He placed his hand on your lower back and he guided the two of you into a set of glass doors held open by another man in the same uniform as the one that opened your door. You gave him a small thank you as well as you walked into the lobby of the tall building. He guided you to a set of three elevators to the left, selecting floor 25 from the screen on the wall. Shortly after a bell chimed and the middle elevator opened and took you up with Jin by your side still.
The doors opened to a space that was large and open, windows along every wall that looked out to the nearby buildings and the busy streets below. The floors were a deep brown wood that ran front to back, drawing your eye to the 360 degree bar in the middle of the room. The tables were all wood that matched the floors, with white napkins and shiny silverware at every empty seat, which there were not many of. The walls were a dark grey that almost looked like cement, in contrast with the dark yellow booth seats but blended perfectly with the even darker grey chairs at the tables. A few plants added pops of green throughout the space on dividers and in the corners. It was loud inside, low, calm jazz played over the speaker system, but you almost couldn’t hear it over all the voices of people enjoying their meal and talking with the people around them.
“Good afternoon Mr. Kim,” the hostess said to Jin. He was still holding the small of your back as you approached her stand. She was wearing a similar uniform to the men downstairs, but her button up shirt was black silk and her vest was fitted to her body.
“Good afternoon Celeste.” He said with a small smile.
“Right this way.” She held two menus in her hand as she turned and walked towards the right side of the restaurant. But instead of going to an empty table in the main room, she took the two of you down a short hallway and into a private room with only three tables along the tall windows. It was quiet inside, but you could still hear a slight hum of talking and music coming from the main room. She set the menus down on the middle table, “Enjoy.” Was all she said as she turned and walked out of the room and back to her station.
Jin came around you and held out one of the two chairs for you and pushed it in as you sat. “What is this place?” You were looking out the windows and down to the street below as Jin took his seat across from you.
“This is Smeraldo, it’s our restaurant.” Your eyes snapped to him, he was already looking at you, leaning back in his seat casually, elbows resting on the arms of the chair.
“You all own the whole restaurant?” You asked surprised that they would have something so normal, but also not normal at the same time.
“The whole building actually. The restaurant is just for fun.” He chuckled a little, leaning forward and opening his menu. “Everything is good, but I do recommend the fried chicken and waffles. I helped make that one and last I heard it’s still the best seller.”
You stared at him for a moment, still processing what he just said so casually, like he was telling you the weather. He didn’t look back up at you, scanning through the pages of the menu in front of him. You finally picked up your menu as well and scanned through the different options. You internally rolled your eyes because Jin was right and the chicken and waffles did sound the best from the options.
The door to the private room opened and a tall, slender man walked in and up to your table. Dressed in what you now knew was the uniform, in all black with a leather server book and pen in his hands. He looked at Jin, giving him a small bow, “Good afternoon sir.”
Jin looked at him with a big smile, “Thomas, we have been over this, you don’t have to be so formal with me. Seokjin is just fine.”
Thomas gave him a small nod in response. “Of course. Would you like your usual today?”
“Yes, for both of us. And can you let Greg know we are here?”
“Of course si-” Thomas caught himself, “Seokjin.” He took both of your menus and gave Jin another small bow before he left as quickly as he entered.
“I didn’t even tell you what I wanted.” You sat back in your seat, looking across the table at Jin.
“So you weren’t going to get the dish I suggested then?” He leaned forward, picking up the napkin in front of him and draping it across his lap.
“I guess we’ll never know.” You said dramatically, as you turned your head and looked out the window next to him.
He just gave you a small laugh, shaking his head, as he pulled out his phone, tapping away at it for a moment before putting it face down on the table in front of him.
“So this truly was just to get lunch then? I keep thinking someone is going to break through the window and take me away to some other mansion with like, eight men who all hate me instead.”
The corner of his mouth moved up in a half smile, but didn’t reach his eyes. “No this was truly just lunch. Nothing else. Are you already forgetting rule number one?”
“I’m always safe with you, as long as I do what you say.”
“Good girl.” The two words sent warmth through your body, settling low in your stomach, like it did earlier with Yoongi. Confirming again that it wasn’t just a one time thing, the devil inside you was definitely winning this fight.
