“I’m sorry, she tried to do what?” Jimin looked at Joon like he had grown an extra head, especially with how casual he seemed about it.
Joon had called a meeting to his office not long after he took you back to your room. “Please, It’s not like any of it was actually going to work.” Joon rolled his eyes as he thought about your immature attempts at hurting them.
“She still tried though.”Jimin said, exasperated at how calm everyone seemed to be about the situation.
“Can you blame her?” JK stood from his spot on one of the couches in Joon’s office, starting to pace in front of the fireplace. “That was a lot of information for her, she’s not used to death and everything like we are.”
“We all know you still don’t like her being here dude. Shut the fuck up.” Hobi said, looking at Jimin on the other couch from the one Hobi, Yoongi, JK were sharing.
“No I won't, this is a perfect example of why we shouldn’t have brought her here.” Jimin glared at Hobi.
“Yeah well it’s a little late for that, I think.” Yoongi said dryly next to Hobi.
Jimin stood from his spot on the couch, walking up to Joon who was leaning against the front of his desk. “How are you so calm about this?” He turned on his heel looking at each of his brothers. “How are any of you?”
“Don’t misunderstand me, I’m fucking pissed. She is definitely not getting away with this. Minor as it was, I think she’s gotten too comfortable and we’ve been too nice.” Joon said, arms crossing in front of his chest.
Jimin spun back to look at Joon, “Wait what?”
“If you had let me finish.” Joon pushed off the desk to walk around to sit in his tall desk chair. “I called the meeting to talk about what she did. But I also wanted to make a plan for her punishment.”
All eyes were on Joon as he spoke. He knew the other men and even if they weren’t saying it, they were pissed too. The fact that you were comfortable enough to think you could game their system, and get away with it was not going to fly with him. His job was to protect the 6 men in front of him no matter what. Yes he had chosen you and went through this whole plan to have you here, but you also needed to learn your place and who was in charge here.
Wordlessly Jimin turned back and took his seat on the couch again. Tae nodded to him silently making sure the older man was okay. Jimin returned his nod, sitting back on the couch, ready to hear what the others had to say.
“Right so Jin, are the guys down in the lab still working on what we talked about the other day?” Joon leaned forward, elbows on the desk and hands clasped together in front of him.
Jin sat up straight, surprised to be brought into the conversation. “Uh, yeah they just finished the second batch yesterday.”
Joon smiled at him, the others knew that smile. Joon had a particularly good idea, or bad depending on whose side of the plan you were on. “Perfect. I need you to get a couple doses for us.”
After your meeting with Joon, he took you back to your room, he was calm and relaxed the whole time. You were kind of surprised, thinking that he would be mad about what you tried to do. Expecting him to walk right past your room and take you to the black box in the basement he talked about. Once inside the bedroom you stood there for a moment hearing his footsteps retreat down the hallway. After a couple minutes you still didn’t hear any raised voices or footsteps coming in your direction, you felt it was safe to finally relax and release the breath you had been holding since Hobi took you to Joon’s office.
You were now sitting comfortably on your bed, reading the book you had started the other day. At this point you were almost done with it, but so lost in the story you didn’t want it to end. The two main characters were finally running away from their families and lives to be together. A knock on the door forced you out of the pages though. You had ordered lunch a little bit ago and were expecting it by now. You heard the lock slide open and the large wooden door creek open. “You can just set it on the table. Thank you.”
“Well fine if you don’t want to see me, you can just tell me that.” JK said from the doorway. His voice made you snap your head up to look at him. You had expected one of the cooks or other employees of the house to bring your food to you, but seeing the wide shoulder man in your doorway was a welcome surprise.
“Oh hi!” You set the book down and started to get out of the bed before JK told you to stay and brought the tray over to you. “I don’t remember ordering you with my lunch.” You said playfully as he set the tray of kimchi jjiage and white rice in front of you.
“Yeah well I wanted to apologize for yesterday. What I said made shit hit the fan and that’s not how we wanted you to find out about Trevor.” He picked up your soup and handed it to you. “Here you should eat something. I heard Jin say you skipped breakfast.”
You smiled at him, you knew he was sweet and didn’t mean to be so harsh yesterday, but he seemed extra nice today. You wondered how he was a part of this criminal organization when he seemed so normal. In fact they all did, besides Jimin who you hadn’t had much interaction with. You definitely didn’t have to wonder who he was considered the muscle of the team. He was wearing a black t-shirt that was snug around his arms and chest, showing every dip and curve of the large muscles. You also got a better view at the tattoos covering his hands and arms that disappeared under the shirt, but you could see continued on his neck above the shirt.
You took a few big bites of the soup, every other one getting a spoonful of rice and some of the broth together. It warmed you from the inside and was a perfect meal on such a cold day.
The two of you talked while you ate, laughing and enjoying each other's company. Once you were done with your meal, JK moved the tray to the end of the bed while you two continued to talk before you started to get tired, leaning back against the pillows behind you as you had to fight to keep your eyes open.
Your head flopped back against the headboard behind you as you could no longer control the muscles in your neck. As a matter of fact, you couldn’t move your arms or legs either. Your heart rate climbed, as you started to panic, not sure what was happening or why your body was not responding to you. were able to open your eyes enough to see JK look at the watch on his arm, “Right on time.”
He leaned up, coming up only a couple inches from your face. “You should have behaved.” He said before your eyes closed and everything went black.
“Should be waking up any moment now.” You heard a voice above you say. They sounded muffled and far away at the same time. You moved your head side to side, the muscles in your neck feeling like they hadn’t been used in months. You slowly blinked your eyes open, flinching at the bright light above you. You tried to move your arm up to cover your eyes from the light, but your arms wouldn't respond, feeling heavy next to your body and unable to move.
“There she is.” You heard another voice say from your other side, just as muffled as the first. You opened your eyes again, this time braced for the light. You lulled your head to the left, in the direction of the second voice. It took you a few seconds of blinking, trying to focus your eyes, when a face finally came into view and you saw the angular face of Hobi smiling at you. Your brows knitted in confusion.
You turned your head to the right, from where the first voice came from. You saw Jin standing there, but he wasn’t looking at you, instead he was focused on a monitor on the wall next to you.
Looking down at your body you saw that you were on what looked like a wooden dining table. Your clothes had changed, you now looked like you were going skiing, with white waterproof boots and pants, and a big white puffer jacket. You looked back and Hobi and Jin confusion ran through your brain.
“You should start having some feeling back in the rest of your body in a few minutes.” Jin said as he moved to the end of the table.
“Wha- what’s going on.” You said hoarsely. Your throat was so dry, you tried to cough, but ended up wheezing instead. You looked around you more, seeing the three of you were in a cramped room with wood siding and wood lining the ceiling. The air smelled stale but had a pungent aroma of cedar. There was a small, two seater sofa against the wall to the right and a short countertop with a bare metal sink in the corner.
Hobi leaned down closer hovering over your face and you turned your head to look at him, “A little game we cooked up for you. A simple one at that.” He had a wicked smile on his face as he stood up straight and joined Jin at the end of the table. “Survive.”
You tried to lift your head up to look at them but you couldn’t hold it, so you dropped your head back to the wood table with a thunk. Your eyes bounced around looking at the ceiling, processing his words.
“This is our hunting outpost in the woods behind headquarters.” Jin spoke now, almost sounding bored. “We’re gonna head out and you have to find your way back on your own. And hopefully before nightfall, it gets cold once the sun goes down.” He looked at his watch, “which is in 6 hours.”
Panic shot through you. “What is this? Why are we out here?” You asked, starting to sound frantic.
“For the game. Have you not listened to anything we’ve told you?” Hobi said with a chuckle, but with a definite edge to it, sounding frustrated. “See you back at the house. Hopefully.”
You lifted your head again to see the two turn and walk out the front door of the small room and into the snowy woods. You could hear their footsteps through the snow and then the revving of an engine before the vehicle drove off.
All you could do was lay there, your body still unable to move on its own. Jin said you should in a few minutes, but what if he was wrong? What if you just laid there for days and they never came to get you?
You had to push those thoughts and your anxiety away. They were not helping the situation, in fact it was just making your heart beat faster, making you breathe faster, making the anxiety worse in a fucked up loop.
Focusing on your fingers first, you tried to move any of them you could. After about a minute you could finally feel your finger and toes moving and slowly getting feeling back in your hands, and then arms, and finally your legs. You were able to move everything but it was far from graceful. You would lift your arm from the table, stretching and testing it, only for it to flop back down.
Knowing that whatever they had given you was truly wearing off, you tried to stay calm and lay on the table waiting for your appendages to catch up with your brain. But you also knew that the day was not getting any longer and that soon you would run out of sunlight. You had no idea where on the property you were or how far you were from the mansion. But based on the way Jin and Hobi were talking, it was not going to be an easy trek back.
While you laid there you also thought about how you ended up here. You weren’t dumb, you knew this was your punishment for the stuff you got from the store, but this seemed a little extreme to you. But what did you know about gangs and their levels of punishment? You guessed you were lucky you didn’t end up in the basement after all.
You couldn’t believe you trusted JK with your food like that. Jin had joked about drugging your food, but it was truly a joke. This answered your question of how JK was in the mafia, you guessed. He might have seemed like a sweet, boba eyed man, but under that, he was one of the leaders of the most powerful gangs in your city and you had gotten entirely too comfortable and trusting of any of them.
After a few more minutes you felt like you had some more control over your body. You were able to sit up, holding yourself up with your hands flat on the table next to your hips. Looking down, you realized you had a couple leads from a heart monitor going up and into your shirt. Reaching down, you pulled off the electrodes that were stuck to your chest. The monitor they were connected to made a loud beeping noise since there was no heart beat being detected, but you silenced it by reaching up and hitting the power button on the side.
You took a moment to look around the room again. Seeing the sofa and makeshift kitchen again, what you hadn’t seen was a door in the middle of the wall behind you. Wanting to investigate you turned your body on the table so your legs were dangling off the side.
With a deep breath you placed each foot on the floor, not putting any weight on them yet, just testing the feeling of being upright again. You slowly put more weight on your left leg and then your right, feeling that they were stable enough, you took a step forward. Which you immediately regretted as you fell face first on the hard wood floor. Your arms barely had time to react to catch you, smacking your elbow as you went down but still hitting your face on the floor.
You laid on the floor groaning in pain now. Reaching up to your nose, it was bent to the side and had blood trickling out of it, definitely broken. Moving your fingers down to your lip you hissed in pain as they found it split on the right side of your upper lip. You laid there for a moment just taking it in and processing what all was happening. You had to remind yourself that you couldn’t stay there long as you were running out of daylight.
With a big groan you got your arms under you and pushed up to stand. You gripped the edge of the table to help you get to your two feet. Testing them again, still holding onto the table you lifted each leg, bending your knee slightly and twisting your ankle in a circle. You took a careful step, and your legs held this time. You carefully and slowly walked to the door.
Opening it you found nothing but a storage room. Empty cardboard boxes and an old dirty mattress are the only things in the small closet.
You turned back into the main space, making your way to the front door. Before you could get there you noticed a chair next to the door with a box on it. Carefully you walked up to it and opened the box, not sure what you would find.
Your face dropped and you took a big sigh before pulling out a bottle of honey, a cinnamon candle, a package of snack cakes, a box of tampons, and a tube of mascara. “Fuck you Namjoon.” They were all the items you had requested to keep after your meeting with him earlier that day. You swore you could almost hear his chuckle at seeing your reaction.
Luckily the pants they put you in were cargo pants, so you stuffed the honey, snack cakes, and tampons into the various pockets. You weren’t sure if or when you would have access to food again once you left the shack. You actually made use of one of the tampons, putting the cotton in your right nostril to soak up some of the blood still coming from your broken nose.
You paused while you were closing the last pocket of snack cakes on your leg. These were not the clothes you were in when you had lunch with JK. Which means at least one of the guys underdressed you and put these clothes on, or a staff member you supposed. You hoped for the latter for your own sanity.
Finally feeling as prepared as you could be, you opened the front door and stepped out into the cold, winter day. You knew you remembered hearing an engine rev when Jin and Hobi left, you were hoping to at least see a direction to go in from the tracks. But enough time had passed and the snow was falling so hard that its tracks were long gone.
You walked a few feet away from the house scanning everything around you. Trying to find any sign of which direction to go in. You had never even been camping before, how did they expect you to make it back to the mansion on your own? The only thing you knew was the direction the sun rose and set in, which might be helpful, but probably not when you didn’t even know what direction the house was to you.
There was nothing around you but snow, trees, and one chipmunk you saw scurry through the snow and up a tree. You had to zip your jacket up to your nose and bring the hood up over your head to keep your body heat in.
You started to walk around the shack to see if there was anything at the back side. Having to lift your feet up and out of the fallen snow around you and the drugs still in your system made walking difficult. You had to hold onto the wood siding of the shack to stay upright. You gasped slightly as you looked up from the ground, trying to watch your step through the layer of snow, to the tree line in front of you. There was a small clearing of trees that you assumed the path through these woods led. You noticed the sun was just starting to fall to your right, meaning you were headed south. Hoping this was actually a path back to the main house you picked up your feet and started walking to the clearing.
You walked for what felt like forever, trying your best to stick with the small clearing of trees you assumed was a trail. You felt somewhat confident because you never came across your own tracks in the snow, so you knew you weren’t just going in circles.
The sun was slightly lower at this point and you could estimate that maybe two hours had passed, but you had no way to really know. You had stopped for a break when you came across a boulder a little off the trail that was covered by trees and had little snow on it. You climbed on to rest your aching feet and legs. Taking a snack cake out of one of your pockets and eating it like a makeshift picnic.
Although you were initially creeped out at the possibility of one of the members of Bangtan undressing you and putting you in these clothes, you were thankful for the warmer clothing since it kept the majority of the cold and snow out. You were still shivering on the large rock as you looked around hoping for any signs of life. Still nothing but trees and snow as far as you could see.
You started to wonder if they lied to you and these weren’t the woods you saw from your window and there was no way out. Pushing that thought away, you decided you had rested enough and had to keep walking. You wouldn’t have sunlight forever, and not only would this be harder in the dark, it was going to get even colder once the sun went down. Getting back on the trail you continued to walk hoping that you were getting close.
After much more walking, you knew you were actually not close. At this point you had given up on trying to stick to the path you thought was a trial, not trusting it. Instead you just walked straight south. Or at least what you hoped was south based on the sun still going down to your right. You were tired and just wanted to get into the warm mansion, hoping that there actually was a mansion for you to find soon.
You were pushing through a particularly dense patch of shrubs and trees when you could have sworn you heard a car driving on pavement a ways off in front of you.
You took off through the trees and brush as fast as your legs, that were long numb to the cold air, would take you. Stumbling as you found a definite human made rock path, landing on your hands and knees. You stared at the hard surface below your hands, you could almost cry finally finding signs of civilization.
Standing back on your feet you walked down the stone path, continuing in what you still hoped was south. Picking up speed as you could see the trees starting to thin and in the distance the dark roof of the mansion Bangtan called home and headquarters.
Finally getting to the break in the trees and seeing the large estate in full view, you looked up at the large windows looking in each for signs of life. Movement caught your eye on the second floor, with the light from inside you could see into your bedroom. Somewhat blocking your view though, was Hobi standing in the middle of the window. Hands in his pockets and staring right at you, like he knew you would be appearing out of the woods any moment. He smiled down at you and winked, before turning and walking back towards the door to your room. It was not lost on you, the mirror you found yourself in from the first time you saw Hobi in this spot.
Your anger at these men, specifically Hobi, was slowly building. You would be surprised if steam wasn’t coming off your head from the heat, making the snow still landing on you, evaporate. But you were also relieved that you were finally back at headquarters and could change out of your cold wet clothes. You could almost hear the sound of your shower running, steaming hot and ready for you to warm up.
Walking up to the door that lead from the large patio, you opened the large door, feeling the heat from inside beckon you in. You stepped inside, closing the door behind you and fell to your knees, as they protested at the third fall of the day. But you ignored them, just thankful for the warmth finally.
A pair of large boots came into view while you were hunched over trying to get your lungs used to a normal temperature again. You looked up, eyes falling over the thick legs covered in black jeans, to a broad chest and shoulders with a black button down and up to Joon’s face. He bent down and grasped your chin with his large hand, forcing you to look up at him. His grip almost hurt and you whined as your face was still prickly from the cold it had been battered with for the last few hours and swollen from the split lip and broken nose.
A wicked smile broke out across his face as he leaned down, coming only inches from your face, “Welcome home.”
