Back in the 1980s, Donald Westlake wrote a fascinating essay on genre, and the gay subtext in Raymond Chandler's The Long Goodbye. It was not well received, but nowadays few aware of the homophobic response it prompted at the time.

Also fun fact: The UK doesn't have an official Pride month though we often copy the US with June and also celebrate the Stonewall Riots due to them inspiring some branches of the Gay Liberation Front. Our first Pride event was held 1st July 1972. Pride events here will usually vary on area usually between June-September. In my area Pride is more commonly celebrated in July or August.
