A lot of people say that Five was ooc because he showed romantic interest in someone and was all soft.

I agree that he was ooc but not for that reason.

He never had a shot at growing up and being in the awkward teen phases of love. He found Dolores pretty quickly since in a flashback we see him reading Viktor’s book with her sat in the back and she wasn’t human. She could only say and do what Five wanted her to say and do.

She was a way for Five to cope and was his inner voice being given a physical body.

He loved her, yes. But he didn’t love her. He never looked at Dolores the way he looked at Lila.

And trust me I hate Fivela as much as the next person, but Five being soft and truly in love didn’t feel so out of character for me.

He never got to experience real love and have a real human at least show a little interest in him so it makes sense that even though he’s mentally in his 60’s, he would still be soft when he finally gets to feel loved by someone.

In season 3 when Jamie spits on him, he hallucinates Dolores and he’s so soft with her. But then again a lot of people also think season 3 was the start of the downfall but I didn’t mind the season.

“I aim to please.” Doesn’t sound so crazy coming from Five because why wouldn’t he? I think he would do anything to keep the person that he felt real love for and received affection from after years of solitude and putting up walls.

I think he was too soft as in, he didn’t act like an old man anymore. Not even in moments before he got stuck with Lila.

Five was ooc. But not for how he acted when he thought he was finally loved.

Okay, not to sound like an asshole and point out something right away, but in 4x01 there's no way Five wouldn't have noticed the marigold jar missing from the box after Ben took it. The dude was a trained assassin that had to keep track of his briefcase at all times, and the marigold jar was right on top of the box which was right next to his leg. Not to mention Five picked up that box and carried it too

the way that they dumbed five down to be a quiet, in the background sort of idiot pisses me off so badly because he was such a beloved character BECAUSE of the fact that he was insane. like so chaotic. due to his motivations and lack of social skills. five would get up in someone’s face with 100% eye contact with the most intimidating look and not care even a little bit

also five was so INTELLIGENT and OBSERVANT. you’re telling me five did all of his side quests in the first three seasons and figured everything out like 10 times faster than everyone else just to not even notice his boss worked for a cult he was investigating. to not even realize that a giant jar of glowing sparkles he purposefully hid from the server of the sushi restaurant was stolen two seconds later. even when he picks the box up and takes it home. yeah right you guys are weirdos

five's sudden shift from constantly stressed out old man to tiktok fuckboy in season 4 will never stop being crazy to me. he went from "ask me again and i'll burn you with the cigarette lighter" to "well, i aim to please! :)"

yeah no i absolutely agree. they definitely just told him to act like himself to make five's personality more ""appealing"" so that 1. they could reel in the five simps and 2. he could be a more suitable love interest for lila and like....if your character isn't already fitting to be a love interest..just don't make them a love interest??

EXACTLY like if you need to rework a character’s entire personality so it’ll fit a random weird plotline, the plotline is clearly not meant for the character.

and i HATE how obvious it was that five was so watered down this season for the five simps. i know there are tons of teenagers who love this show just because they think aidan gallagher is hot and that’s fine!! support the show!!

but it’s so frustrating that the favorite character of so much of the fandom was reworked to be more bait for simps than anything else?? especially when so many people who love this show are grown ass adults who couldn’t care less about aidan gallagher being a proper suitor for teenagers???

the show would’ve done fine regardless of five being turned into what he was because it was already a popular show. it was so unecessary and i’m so tired of being frustrated about it but i literally cannot bring myself to let it go

Completely agree with all of this. Not to sound stupid, but the first red flag was the hair. Now, don't get me wrong, he looked damn good in this season, but he didn't look like Five. Five Hargreeves, the old man in his 60s, who wears his full academy uniform, including tie and blazer at all times, and then custom-tailored three-piece suits while running around trying to save the world, suddenly decides he's going to go for the teen heartthrob look? There is no way the real Five isn't going to the barber every 4 weeks like clockwork, asking for the same short, clean cut hairstyle he's had since Grace probably cut his hair as a kid. Season 3 hair was slightly different I know, but still in the same genre of neat and orderly.

It sounds dumb to make this about a hairstyle, but I can't help but feel that was the beginning of the end. When they told Aidan, "no, just keep it long, it's fine" that was when it all started to fall apart and Five became a completely different character. I just remember being so let down when I saw those mid-production photos of Aidan and realizing that's what Five was going to look like this season, because it was just so out of character. They completely erased the old man living inside of him and replaced him with an angsty teen who was trying to look cool to impress his girlfriend.

I'm still not over it either, which is hilarious because it's just hair, but damn it... I know I'm right about this 😂

it does sound kind of crazy to make it about the hair but i completely agree!! five is so obviously the kind of man to keep himself clean and tidy and well-dressed no matter the situation, because he manages to do just that despite his new body and unfortunate circumstances ON TOP of stopping several apocalypses

to picture old man five, commission era five, seeing s4 five’s haircut and just going “why the hell would i do that” is so funny because there is no WAY an old man is going to the barber asking for the “tiktok thirst trap #7”

something that i do think is entertaining to picture, even if out of character, is pre-five’s s4 haircut, when his hair was growing out to reach the longer length, and him looking like a hippie. because hey old man five would never let that happen. have you seen that guy and his neat little mustache

and don’t even get me started on the way s4 five’s hair was CONSTANTLY in his eyes? like completely in his face. i know for a goddamn fact on the first day of the new haircut old man would’ve taken a steak knife and sawed it off himself in the middle of a formal dinner if it was in his eyes.

no chance. no CHANCE he was like “i mean it’s really fucking annoying and i also look even more like a stupid teenager which is something i’ve completely despised since the body swap incident but i guess i’ll deal with it for no reason at all”

five who woke up every day knowing he was about to kill whoever necessary to stop the apocalypse and save his siblings and still got out of bed and made sure his hair was neat. five who even when consensually squatting in a conspiracy theorists’ home in another decade made sure his hair wasn’t out of place before running his apocalypse-stopping errands. priorities priorities

Yeah fives character got completely obliterated in S4. He was one of my favorites prior to that and S4 just absolutely ruined him. The others too, but him worst of all.

Am I the only one that thinks Five went into the CIA because it was familiar? He already had all the knowledge, smarts, and the sets of skills from being a super hero child and from working as an assassin for the commission. I feel like he just turned all that he knew into a decent paying 9-5. But, of course he had to apply for the job the old fashioned way even if he'd excel at it.

Gives me the feel of "I already have the skills. Might as well get paid for it.", ya know?

My head Canon has and always will be that once Viktor discovers his powers, Diego takes him outside, and they play with knives to bond.

The siblings hear screaming and they think they're out there killing each other but it's really just Diego trying his best to hit a target and Viktor gleefully trying to stop him.

It goes on until a knife nicks Viktor. He wants to keep going, but Diego freaks out and basically frogmarches him to Mom.
