After being a vampire for ~100 years (& with human memories fading) Edward would have to start to forget different feelings. What it’s like to be warm. What it’s like to sleep. What it’s like to be truly surprised. And it’s a steady loss of these things until he meets Bella.

When Bella is human, he doesn’t get those feelings back, but he gets the proximity. He gets to be held, and watch her sleep, and since he can’t read her mind he can never be exactly sure what she’s thinking or going to say. 

So yes Edward has his concerns about her happiness and her soul and the permanence of switching her to being a vampire, but i think there’s more. Though he didn’t say it out loud, but there had to be a part of edward that was concerned that when bella stopped being human he would lose the closest sensation of being human again he’d ever get.
