Hello! This is my little OC sideblog, where I plan on saying stuff/randomly rambling about/possibly writing(??) about my OCs.
I have a handful of universes and settings, tags (so far) are:
vroom vroom tag - for all things regarding AnonPrix, my fictional superbike racing series where everyone is anonymous (individual characters are tagged as "[NAME] anonprix")
florida flamingos - my fake hockey team based out of florida, not as active as anonprix or probably any other future tags (any characters will be tagged as their full names)
don't get me wrong i love "always knew i wasn't a boy/girl" narratives but how about we start writing about "knew about trans people but couldn't imagine being one because Surely I'm not special that way and instead just kinda bad at being a boy/girl"
A new rider is signed to your team. Allegedly, he has a lot of experience, but you think he may be a bit dumb because your team is (to put it lightly) absolute dogshit at their job. The bikes are shit, the strategies are iffy at best. It's all bad.
It's so bad that you DNF the first race of the new season.
Meanwhile, your new teammate somehow manages to get first place.
You are Bolt AnonPrix, and you're pretty sure you are going to be out of a job by the end of the season.
Very funny how despite me originally seeing Comet as the sort of "main character" of AnonPrix, not only is the first Real story I've been working on for it is Veneer's, but also like. there's no one real main character anymore it's more like an actual ensemble story lmao
you know when you really want to talk abt your OCs but don’t know what to say so you’re just holding them up like Simba with a bunch of exclamation points overhead?
(cw: mentions of unethical experiments on children, cults, and child death/murder)
as far as anyone is aware in-universe, there is no reason for this to have happened. there are no enemies for these children to be given these strange changes, these strange abilities. there's no explanation. nobody can make heads or tails of it, and it's turned the worlds of science and religion on their heads ever since it started all those decades ago.
there are, of course, a large variety of theories and beliefs about it, but none are confirmed. none are 100% airtight.
as for what these kids do in society without having any "purpose", especially as they grow into adulthood under such strange circumstances:
prior to 1962 and the UN providing protections for these people who were effected by something so strange and unusual, it was common for governments to "take in" (forcibly take) the kids who were effected in their own countries, both the winged ones and the strange-eyed ones. if the two kids were from different countries on the same side of the iron curtain, they may be able to still interact. if not, thought, then it was rare for them to ever interact physically.
there were even instances of experiments done by the USAmerican and USSR governments in particular attempting to use these kids as tools of espionage, or even breaking the bonds between these individuals in an attempt to prevent such a thing (though the latter was never successful, ultimately only harming one or both of the duo, or even killing one of them).
even after 1962, despite the protections, it took about a decade for the practice to be fully phased out (and in many places, it still happens, if not on a smaller, quieter scale), but as it was, these individuals began to be found in many other walks of life. they went to school, to college, got jobs. Some got married, adopted children, ran households. Some are even athletes (a controversial topic, though these individuals abilities cannot be activated if their wings are "put away", or their eyes hidden from view) and creatives. some are soldiers or first responders.
they can, hypothetically, do anything they want. as the years have gone on, it's become more and more clear that despite their abilities and physical changes, they are, more or less, just people.
well. to most.
over the years, many religious cults have popped up regarding these children as the focal points. cults that cull their children in an attempt to bring more of these "miracle children" into the world. cults that worship the ones whose families they can trick into their way of life. even cults that do everything in their power to try and cull the winged and strange-eyed children, seeing them as abominations, or tricks of demons and devils.
every time one seems to fade away, another pops up to take its place.
so yeah. they can end up in any field or practice or situation, just like normal people! but they will often end up in places that best suit whatever abilities they may have gained through their transformation. unless they don't -gestures at athletes-
but. they used to mostly just be government prisoners back in the day with very few exceptions prior to A Big Thing happening -glances at a pair of ocs i havent talked about much yet-
(fun fact i do. in fact. have aus in my brain for things i like that is set in my original universe but that is neither here nor thereeee)
i've been heavily wrestling with myself about a very specific aspect of the winged children universe. which is like. okay when i first started making this universe i was very much in high school, and there were a lot of aspects that were completely different, but the main thing i've had to most trouble letting go of is the concept of there being One Big Conflict (or OBC) between these kids (and adults technically bc they DO grow up) and some Big Vague Evil Force.
i've decided to let it go, simply because like... the more i work with and fiddle with these characters and their stories and the universe they exist in, the more i realize that like. having OBC would super diminish the personal stories of these characters
(and honestly ive noticed a trend in my writing where i end up enjoying much smaller scale things, like individual character stories and interpersonal relationships. snapshots of a larger world.)
this isn't really me saying much of anything except me rambling about my. thought processes but dbhsfhbsd yea....
