Florian: Checks out. A lot of her favorite songs have sad lyrics with an upbeat tune.
Arven: I don't listen to music.
Nemona: I like motivating songs, but I'll listen to anything!
Florian: Um... Rock, I guess? I think there's a decent amount of that on my playlist.
I'm also getting into Ryme's music.
Nemona: Oooh, can I listen?
Florian: ...Sure. Volume warning.
[Florian plays his music on his phone. The first song on the playlist is Usseewa by Ado.]
Carmine: Huh. This is the kind of song Kiki would blast when he was being all edgy.
Anyway, I like alt rock and punk rock.
Arven: Bud, are you okay?
[Florian pauses the music.]
Florian: I'm fine! Don't worry about it. It's just music.

Florian: No hard feelings if you do choose Mabosstiff. You've known him for... eighteen years now? Assuming you knew each other since you were a baby? And you've only known me for one.
Arven: It's even worse when you're the one saying it!
Florian: What do you mean?
Penny: Anon, do you know how messed up it is that we're being asked this together? Where we can hear each other's answers?
If we were to ever have an apocalypse, which is getting all the more likely thanks to the Treasures... Well, Arven can cook. He'd be useful.
Arven: Thanks?
Penny: Aside from that... [whispering] I'd want one of my Veevees.
Nemona: I can't decide...! I'll say Juliana!
Juliana: I'd go for Florian.
Florian: Whew, thanks for saying it. I'd pick you, too. I've technically known Nemona longer, but Juliana and I know each other on a deeper level.
Kieran: Florian.
Carmine: Florian?!
Kieran: Don't act like you wouldn't pick Juliana! They're strong enough to fight any enemies off.
Carmine: In Pokemon battles! Do they look like they can hold their own in a fistfight?
Kieran: You're my next choice!
Carmine: I'll to protect you as a good older sister.
[Kieran gags. Carmine shoots him a glare.]
Florian: ...Are you serious about that?
Carmine: Of course I am! Florian, punch me right now! I bet it won't hurt.
Florian: ...No, thank you.
Juliana: Chin up, Carmine! Maybe he'll do it some other time.
Actually, I think he managed to bruise someone once.
Florian: What happens at Blueberry Academy stays at Blueberry Academy.
Juliana: Huh. I don't know, actually. We've kept it pretty clean around each other.
Kieran did curse a lot in his edgy phase. Is that normal?
Kieran: Please don't call it that...
Carmine: *giggle* He's tried to curse before that, but it never comes naturally to him. You almost can't get mad when a 9-year-old tells you "You're fucking on thin ice."
Kieran: Almost. I remember how mad Sis got when I called her a bitch...
Juliana: Nemona doesn't curse at all.
Nemona: I don't. I have to set an example!
Juliana: I didn't know Florian was capable of cursing at all. Caught me off-guard when he said "shit" and "puta" after nearly falling off a cliff.
Penny only curses when she's gaming. Usually when they get bad teammates---
Penny: Or when someone keeps rearranging things in my Pokopia builds!
Juliana: Come on, I've only made minor changes!
Penny: Changes are changes, and I want you to leave some things alone.
Juliana: Er... what was it called again? Kinemortophobia. I don't like zombies.
Penny: Why would you ask such a question?

I was about to call a Flying Taxi when Florian brought that robotic brute Miraidon out of its Poke Ball and sat on its back.
Florian warned me when I rode it as well. "Hold on tight."
Hold on to his scrawny---?!
I kept my hands firm on Florian's back as Miraidon leaped into the air and opened its antennae.
"Miraidon can glide, but that's not the same as FLYING---!"
Miraidon's jets fired up, boosting us towards the sky like a jetpack.
"Since when could Miraidon fly?!" I shouted over the roaring engines.
"I'll tell you some other time!"
We landed outside of the Grasswither Shrine. When I touched the shrine's seal, it rolled away, shaking the ground below it.
A mass of leaves emerged from behind the shrine. I readied Greedent's Poke Ball to battle it when a leafy blast of wind flew at me and caught me in a small tornado.
"Florian!" I called.
Even if he heard me, I couldn't see what he was doing through the leaves.
The wind died down, leaving dried leaves in my hair and a spiral of dried bamboo slips in my hands.
"Are you okay?!" Florian exclaimed.
I picked the leaves out of my hair. Every time I picked one, another seemed to appear in its place...
"I'm okay, little bud."

The shrine door rolled away when I put my hand on it. Icerend Shrine. a Fire-type like Spark or a Steel-type like Bubblegum would do.
I sent my Armarouge out and readied a Quick Ball. When I prepared to throw it at the feline creature that emerged, I was blasted with snow and buried in it for a solid number or seconds.
You're alone. They left you.
No, I chose to be alone.
They wanted you to be alone.
No, they didn't! What are you---what am I talking about?!
When I shook the snow off of me, the creature disappeared, leaving me with two halves of a sword. I picked them up, half-expecting them to freeze me when I touched them, but they were only slightly cool.

Without any sort of hesitation, Nemona touched the shrine's door and sent her Greninja out.
The shrine door fell and rolled away, revealing a four-legged creature that seemed to be carved off a cliffside. It ignored Nemona and set its sights towards me.
"You're supposed to be her opponent!"
It didn't seem to like what I said. I sank into the ground faster than Nemona could pull me out. Soil packed around my boots, then my legs, then my chest, then my neck, then---this is how I die.
Except it wasn't. By some miracle, I rose back up. I didn't see a creature, but I did see a large cracked bowl that looked too heavy for both of us to carry.
"I don't think a Flying Taxi can fit this..." I muttered.
Nemona only managed to lift one side of the bowl by an inch.
"This isn't going to work..."
I helped her lift the other side of the bowl, expecting the same result, only for me to lift it above my head!
How did I do that?!
"Wow, Penny! Have you been working out?"
"I didn't---what---huh---?!"
It felt too light for its size, weighing closer to a kitchen bowl.
"How is this light enough to carry all of a sudden...?"

We had to borrow Koraidon from Juliana. I don't know how many times Sis warned it not to get her wet when we entered the cave with the shrine. We were off to a great start...
When I touched the shrine door, it rolled away. Out came... a fish made of fire?
Sis snorted. "It's surprisingly cute."
"Terapagos was cute," I warned.
Warm air surrounded me. It grew warmer and warmer until it turned into---fire?! Wowzers, how am I not burning alive right now?!
When the fire died down, two pairs of jade magatama fell into my hands.
"Kiki, let those go before you burn yourself!"
"They're not burning, see?"
I showed the magatama to Sis, but she flinched when she reached her hand out to grab them. She touched one of the beads, flinched again, and shoved her hand in the water around us.
She's overreacting again. Just because I can handle heat better than her---since when could I handle heat better than her?

I haven't played Undertale or Deltarune (I'd like to, though), but I got the vibes that among the Scarlet and Violet main cast, Penny's the most likely to play both. I don't know why hehe
The second most likely to play them without outside influence... Florian maybe? Even then... well... Penny's the only one of the main seven who's played them.
I think Kieran would like Undertale if ever Penny introduced him to it.
Juliana: There are seven traits and seven of us! That's perfect!
Er... Penny, you're the Undertale person. Would you like to do the honors?
Penny: They won't be perfect fits, but after hearing everyone's stories...
I'd like to think I suit justice the most.
Nemona has perseverance.
Florian: Yep. She worked hard to become Champion, and she's very persistent about battling us.
Penny: Juliana's very brave.

Penny: Florian and Arven... I'm still deciding who gets patience and who gets kindness.
Determination isn't an official SOUL trait, but I think Kieran suits it best.

Florian: Searching for something that could potentially not exist for Mabosstiff's sake? That sounds like kindness to me.
Juliana: But the search itself took a lot of patience, didn't it?

Florian: ...Do you really think I'm kind?

Florian: Even after everything I've said to you at Blueberry Academy?
Juliana: Kind people can say unkind things sometimes. Do you always act like that with anyone else?
I made him a lot like me personality-wise. Every player character I've written has aspects of myself, but he inherited more of my negative traits than them.
One particular trait that comes to mind is... well... He thinks his problems are too insignificant to be upset about since he knows the people around him have it worse.
Given that this AU is about amplifying negative emotions, that's going to be fun to write :)

Penny is non-binary, using she/her and they/them interchangeably as of now.
She came out 2 or 3 months before the events of Twisted Treasures, which everyone has accepted since I'm leaning towards a more idealistic aspect of the Pokemon world. They first came out to Team Star, then to Juliana, then slowly came out to others.
Some have exclusively used she/her for Penny, which... she finds fine? But they want to hear they/them more often.
Other than that, I haven't written anything dysphoria-related for Penny.
