Writer's Ask Game!
Was tagged by my friend @elliekayfiction regarding this ask game and sharing all the writing ideas I currently have/going on as well as potential fic ideas.
Currently I've been in writer's block and after giving it some thought from my fellow mutuals, I think I'm going to stick to Wattpad now as I've heard the engagement on here isn't exactly the best. It's also a pain to format my posts on here at times so I'm just going to go there. I'm still twistersgeek24 on there though! ☺️
And here is my list of fics I have in mind. Feel free to ask any questions regarding these fics/suggestions. It can be in regards to a plot (if I have it, lol), vibes, characters etc.
50 LIKES?! Wow! I never expected to reach this many in so little time. Thank you all. I appreciate it a lot! 🥺💕
Thank you to everyone who got me to 50 likes!
OMG I got a bot hate comment on a fic, calling me an "unemployed writer" who's an "outsider" and "coward" with a "wreckage" of existence. I'm very disappointed. It wasn't half as mean as my inner critic is on a daily basis lmao 😂
On a serious note, if this happened during my first few stories, it would have really hurt. I'm concerned because it used someone's real username... I don't know if there's a way to let them know that someone's impersonating them, or even if I should. What if the bots take mine too 😭
Marked the comment as spam and it should be down now. Just wanted to remind everyone to be cautious and don't listen to anyone who calls you a failure, ever.
Wow. Some people really don't have a life, do they?
Im so sorry you experienced this. I know it doesn't get to you now, but keep your chin up. There's other people that love your writing and need it! ☺️
Tyler & Kate's First Christmas
Tyler looks sweetly down at Kate's beautiful brown eyes as he holds her close by his side, "I already got the best present this year."
🔥🌶️ Crackling Heat and Christmas Kisses 🔥🌶️
AN: This is for a writing challenge that I entered in a Discord server that is owned by a good friend of mine, @echoingbirdsofprey. For this challenge, we were given a prompt, followed by a quote that we had to incorporate into the story. Hope you enjoy. This is also my first fic where I have written smut, so please be gentle. Reblogs, comments, replies, shares, etc. are appreciated!
Warnings: 18+. This fic contains EXPLICIT PIV (female receiving)/oral intimacy, as well as some light restraint/pinning, and light possessiveness. Also includes aftercare from oral intimacy.
Prompt: Mistletoe, Christmas Crackers, Tree Topper, Tree Lights
Quote: “Look, I get that you go all out with Christmas decorations, but I can see your flashing lights through the blinds on my bedroom window, and they’ve kept me awake the past few nights.”
Pairing: Tyler Owens x Nikki Callahan (Oklahoma State Cheerleader OC).
It was a snowy, yet chilly night. Christmas Eve has just arrived, and every street and neighborhood is filled with colorful Christmas lights and decorations that could take your breath away.
For Nikki Callahan, it meant taking part in a Christmas event as a cheerleader for the Oklahoma State Cowboys. And boy was the outfit sexy!
The outfit consisted of red shorts similar to the traditional game-day uniform shorts, a red velour midriff top with a V-cut and white faux fur trim, and white stars attached to the belt. However, with a little bit of flair, Nikki had also crafted a short, red skort with white trim, which added a playful and festive look to the outfit. For an extra addition, she then placed two jingle bell waist chains around her bare, exposed midriff and body. One on the top of her midriff, just below the hem of her top, and the other one right below her belly button, but lower, so it was right at the top hem of her red skort. Just then, a long whistle rang aloud, but to her, it was music to her ears as she was able to pick it out.
“Damn. Baby girl, you look like you’re about to start a fire in here,” a familiar voice calls out as the source of it reveals its way into the bedroom. She smiles, as it was none other than her boyfriend, Tyler Owens, the reckless social media star and storm chaser, who had just let himself into her house.
Nikki smirks, licking her bright red lips as she had just finished putting on the new lipstick color that Tyler had brought for her as an early Christmas gift.
“Maybe because I want to. You know I love playing with fire, sweetheart,” she teases, her whisper low and sultry.
Tyler gently places his hands on her hips, a finger playfully messing around with the jingle bell chain she has on.
“You’re so beautiful. God, I could look at you all night.”
She softly laughed. “Later, tornado cowboy. Right now, I’ve got dancing to do.”
He lets a cocky smirk cross his lips, playfully jingling a couple of bells as a way to tease her. She then turns around to look in the mirror, attempting to look over herself. As she tries to do so, he playfully smacks her backside.
She softly yelps. “Hey!”
He licks his lips, coming right behind her and resting a hand on her hip, his other hand resting on his own hip. He then teases her more, kissing her on her collarbone. She softly giggles before turning around and kissing his lips passionately, her bare midriff brushing against his white t-shirt that she so desperately loves. Her bells jingling as she moved her body against his. He softly laughs, coming closer to her ear.
“Later, baby. You need to focus.”
She lowly chuckles. “Kinda hard to do so when I have my cowboy right where I want him.”
He pecks her cheek with his lips. “And I can’t wait to see you out there. You’ll do amazing. Then, we can come back here and have some “fun.”
She smirks, “I like the sound of that.”
She then turns around, finally giving herself a once-over, smirking flirtatiously before Tyler escorts them outside to his truck. They now head toward the stadium, where she would meet the rest of her fellow cheerleaders once they got there.
The event was bustling and lively. The cheerleaders danced and performed. They were no stranger to the routine and dances. This was their norm after all, given all the performances they had done in the football season. Nikki memorised the routine, spinning, jumping, and poised. Her toned midriff, hips, waist, and curves were all on display in the perfect angles as large, Christmas crackers exploded above the football stadium, igniting the sky into different colors, which added a feeling of warmth in contrast to the chilly weather outside.
From a designated seating area with a great view, Tyler smiled as he watched his girlfriend. Her dances were on key. He couldn't take his eyes off her, practically licking his lips as if he was dying of hunger, dying to savor her right then and there. Then, as if on cue, she made brief eye contact with him, her lips pursed into a flirtatious smirk as she lifted her hands behind the back of her head, her leg arched up with her bare midriff on full display. The jingle bells jingled across the stadium as each cheerleader had them around their midriff and lower waist. Then, the dance was finished. A loud applause rang across the entire stadium, the cheerleaders ruffling their silver pom poms around before filing off the field and back to the locker room.
Then, the after-party was ready to begin. More Christmas crackers were handed to everyone and were sent off into the air, confetti and colored little flakes covering the room. Several cheerleaders went over to their boyfriends, clearly enjoying some flirty moments. After all, who didn’t want to have some fun with their cheerleader girlfriend? Tyler couldn’t agree more. Nikki didn’t have time to converse with her friends for long, as he immediately waltzed over and stole her from them. They softly giggled, knowing how crazy in love they were with each other. And it wasn’t long before their own boyfriends came and swooped them up for the night.
Tyler smiled, placing his hands on her hips as they locked gazes with each other. “You were amazing out there, baby.”
She smirked. “Really? I wasn’t boring?”
He playfully scoffed. “Please. With your toned body, waist, and hips, I was drooling. As I said before, you could start a fire. And damn baby. You have done just that.”
She smiled as he took her hand, his calloused yet tender thumb circling her knuckles, while taking in her tired expression. However, it didn’t last long, as the leaders called her over to have a team debrief. Then, it would be time to greet some of the guests who had arrived, as well as meet with sponsors who had helped to make the event possible.
It was a rough night to say the least. Nikki went from guest to guest before finally meeting up with the sponsors. As a cheer captain for the Oklahoma State Cheerleading squad, this is part of her responsibility. Settled at a reserved table, Tyler held his gaze on her, noticing how tight her smile was, the tension in her shoulders, and barely taking deep breaths. She was well poised, standing up straight, and her hair was perfectly fixed, while her Christmas-themed nails glistened. As she circled back, she let her gaze fall back onto Tyler, who was still watching her. To everyone else, the flash and noise were the main focus. But to her, all that mattered was him. She then eased up a bit, slowly returning to his side as he wrapped an arm around her. He pressed a kiss to her forehead, a light, heartfelt chuckle escaping his lips before they changed to a concerned look.
“You look like you’re ready to escape. You okay? You’re a bit flush.” He then caresses her cheek, feeling just how pale she is.
“It’s a big deal when sponsors are here, as well as high-end guests. You have to look the part,” she said, trying to take a deep breath.
Tyler softly frowned. “Darling, this doesn’t look enjoyable. You’re completely flushed. You look like you could faint at any point.”
She softly sighs, finally relaxing a bit, much to Tyler’s relief. It was easy to tell when she was a big ball of nerves.
“Maybe this is a sign that we should leave,” she whispers.
Tyler nods in agreement as he quietly escorts her out of the crowded afterparty room. She then sighs again.
“Damn. I forgot to get changed. I’ll be right back.”
She then quickly makes her way into the bathroom, locking herself into one of the stalls before removing her shorts from her legs. Then, a soft, yet cocky and flirtatious smirk crosses her lips. She keeps her shorts off, but immediately covers her panties with the red skort with white trim. She then gives herself a quick once-over before leaving the bathroom and heading back to Tyler. He raises an eyebrow, confused.
“I thought you were going to get changed.”
She softly chuckled. “Oh, I decided not to. I just had a minor issue to fix. That’s all.”
He smirks, licking his lips. “Oh, really? And what was this “minor thing” you had to fix, hmm?”
Suddenly, she feels shivers going down her spine, absently pressing a Christmas-themed nail against his chest through his white t-shirt. He watches her, a hand resting on his hip, parting his flannel jacket to the side as he rests his other hand on her hip. There was no denying he was trying to start something of their own, one that would keep them up all night.
He then inches closer, his breath warm on her ear, smirk still on his lips. “You can’t tell me?”
She then playfully pulls his hand away from her hip. “Not here. Somewhere more private,” she whispers, her lips now mere inches away from his.
He doesn’t say anything. Rather, he just licks his lips, helping her with her white fur coat before taking her hand in his, escorting them to his black RAM truck, opening the passenger side door for her, then circling to get to the driver’s side. He then starts the engine, before resting a hand on her bare leg, though she senses a slight possessive edge to it. He reaches over, his lips now brushing against her ear, his voice a low, sultry whisper.
“You did amazing out there, sweetheart,” he murmurs, before moving down, kissing her collarbone while his hand moves up higher on her bare leg. He then kisses across her neckline, hand still moving up her bare leg until he feels the red skort with white trimming, followed by her lace panties; no shorts underneath it like before, while she was dancing. He smirks, hunger and desire rising in his throat as she lets out a soft gasp, a soft whimper following shortly after that.
“Baby, when you said you had a minor thing to fix, was it taking off those shorts and just having your red skort with white trimming on underneath your panties?” He whispers, a possessive, low guttural growl following.
She smirks. “Yes. Now you’ve figured it out, haven’t you?”
He lowly growls, his hand now grips the inside of her thigh tightly, pinkie finger grazing her core through her panties. “Damn, sweetheart. This skort is everything…you sure you wore this for the event and not me?” he quietly teases, pressing his finger against her now.
She could feel herself falling apart, a spark she thought she wouldn’t have but clearly couldn’t ignore. Just as she thought he was coming in for it, he then pulled back, teasing her rigorously as his index and middle fingers remained on her core through her panties.
“Shh. Not now, baby. Trust me. I know a perfect place. Somewhere where we can be comfortable and get that fire sparking in you more…” He trailed off, focusing on driving the truck back to his place. By now, snow had fallen, blanketing the prairie grounds in pure, white confetti. Nikki let out a tired yet relieved sigh, slowly relaxing as she still felt Tyler’s fingers on her core through her panties. Though she couldn’t see it, he let a victorious grin show, though the corners of his lips turned into a smirk. He had her; he just needed to get her inside, against the wall, then lay her down on the bed where she would be at his complete mercy.
As they entered the driveway of his home, he parked the truck, cutting off the engine before rounding the front of the vehicle and opening Nikki’s passenger side door. She smiled as he took her hand in his, immediately bringing her into proximity in front of him. She licked her lips, her chest clearly on display for him with her V-cut midriff red top and white faux fur trim, her bare midriff and legs on display for him with her red skort and white trimming all underneath her white fur coat. Then, they slowly went for it, sharing a slow-burning, passionate kiss. She wrapped her hand behind his neck, her other hand cupping his cheek as he placed his hands on her hips. He then pushed her backwards, towards the front door of his place, slowly helping her up the steps.
The front door opens, amber lighting spreading golden streaks of warmth across the entryway and throughout the rest of the elegant, spacious farmhouse. Nikki then began her own slow-burning kiss, while tangling her Christmas-themed nails in his hair. As she does so, Tyler pants in between breaths as he returns the kiss, hands gripping her hips tightly while lifting her off the ground and pinning her against the wall.
“L-look, I-I get that y-you go a-all out w-with Christmas d-decorations, b-but I c-can see y-your fl-flashing lights t-through the b-blinds on my b-bedroom window, and t-they’ve kept me a-awake the p-past few n-nights...”
He said, panting in between words, desire and hunger on the edge of his tone, a fire burning inside his throat as he then pressed his fingers into her waist, almost possessive yet flirty in a way.
Then, that's when Nikki caught on.
He isn’t awake because of the decorations… She thought to herself.
As if on cue, he smirks. He was a freaking mastermind at heart, and Nikki knew that. He had stolen her with his down-to-earth country cowboy heart, and now it was time to claim her as his.
Then, Nikki shares that look he has: a smirk of her own plays on her bright, red lips as her lipstick was still on. Freshly applied from her moment in the bathroom. She then pressed a manicured nail on his chest.
“Oh? Couldn’t sleep because of the lights, country boy…or is it because you wanted to see me and…lay down with me, perhaps?”
Tyler smirks, although his gaze is on her freshly applied lipstick.
“That for me? This whole outfit for me?” he teased lowly, brushing a finger against the hem of her cheerleader Christmas skort of the outfit. She then licks her lips. Then, with no warning… he returns the favor: crashing his lips against her bright, red ones again.
Tyler pushed Nikki against the dimly lit wall of the hallway, pinning her back to it so she was now facing him directly. He lifts her a bit higher, spreading her legs out so he can position himself between them. He then resumed the kisses persistently, one hand gripping her hips while the other cupped her cheek. A soft whimper escaped her lips as she then cupped his face in her hands, returning the favor. However, he smirked, putting a finger to her lips.
“No, baby. This is all on me. Just relax and let me take care of you,” he lowly murmurs, whispering against her ear. He feels the sensation of chills running down her spine as she lets out a soft gasp. She was slowly falling into his trap, and he was loving it.
He then wraps her legs around his waist, continuing his peppering kisses, each one more delicate than the last. He started at her collarbone, slowly making his way down her chest. Then, he dropped down, bending down on one knee and kissing her stomach feverishly. She softly whimpered as he held her legs, spreading them out more as his hands were steady on her thighs as a way of grounding her.
Nikki glanced down at him, licking her bright, red lips mischievously.
“Still sweet and sugary, baby,” she whispers in a determined voice as he locked his eyes on hers, both hands still on her thighs before removing one and resting it on her hip.
“Mm, sugary now, aren’t I?” he smirked, his eyes glinting with fire, ready to strike. “Well, I’ve missed every damn bit of that sweetness, sweetheart. And it’s a good thing you’re here to show it to me.”
And then, they went for the kill…the bedroom.
Time flashed before Nikki’s eyes, albeit too much. But she didn’t care. All that was on her mind was having this reckless, yet charming, daredevil of a rodeo-tornado cowboy on top of her as he then dipped her onto the mattress of the bed.
Tyler then pulls away, lips slowly finding their way back to her collarbone. He kisses, licks, and nips at it as Nikki leans her head back, soft whimpers and moans escaping her lips. He savors this moment, claiming her and marking her as his. His fingers dig into the skin of her hips, pinning her down into the bed.
“Tyler–” she whimpered softly.
“Shh…” he said, pressing one final kiss on her collarbone before pulling back. He kept his hand on her waist, thumb circling tantalizing patterns near her navel, heat growing within her belly. He could feel it; she could feel it. He held his gaze on her pretty, blueish-gray eyes, his voice low, sultry as he relished in having her all to himself again.
“Look at you. All spread out for me. Ready for me to claim you as mine while you scream my name all night long…” he whispered flirtatiously, his lips now kissing her midriff feverishly. He nips at the skin, earning a soft gasp followed by a whimper.
“Tyler, oh honey–...”
“Shh. Patience baby. I know what you want. Let me savor this, though. Savor you and this gorgeous body before me. Such a Christmas goddess you are.”
She softly giggles, glancing down as he continues kissing her midriff and slowly moving his way down her abdomen, messing around with the jingle bell chains. He then moves down to her hip and waist, nipping at the sensitive skin as his teeth begin savoring it all in. She lets out a half yelp and whimper, her hips shuddering as a response.
He smirks, that flirtatious and cocky smirk that he barely shows while outside, lighting up his face in the ambient, golden lighting setting that could easily turn any woman on.
“How’s that, sweetheart?” he asks, his warm, country accent drawling through her ears.
She whimpers again, spreading her legs wider unbeknownst to herself.
“Perfect, baby. Keep it right there. Oooh yes. You sure know how to make out with a woman.”
He softly chuckles, then kisses her hip. “Oh. I can do more than that, baby,” he said, his eyes carrying a dangerous glint in them.
He then returns his lips to her abdomen, licking, nipping, and kissing at the skin there. Nikki whimpers in pleasure, the sound ringing through the bedroom and bouncing off the walls. She feels her hips jerk against his skin as she continues to whimper. He then kisses her navel, his hands on her waist, before leaving a hickey right on it. She then softly gasps in response.
“You naughty boy.” He lets out a hearty laugh, now towering over her completely.
“Told you I’m dangerous,” he smirks, dipping his finger into her navel before teasingly dipping it back out. Then, he moves lower, his hand slightly tugging on the hem of her skort. Nikki smirks.
“Mmh, yes baby. Take it off,” she whispers flirtatiously, her voice carrying that underlying tone of desperation.
Swoosh.
Just like that, Tyler had torn off the piece of clothing. Now, she was lying down in her lace panties, while her red velour midriif top with the V-cut and white faux fur trim remained on the top portion of her body. He lets a predatory smirk cross his lips, the one that carries a dark and possessive edge to it. His eyes are burning with desire, hunger, and fire all at once. He’s devouring, savoring it all in.
“Now I got you where I want you,” he whispers, a hand now on the inside of her thighs while the other one is awfully close to her core, fingertips slowly brushing the fabric of her panties.
Nikki feels her pulse igniting, the spark in her belly now a massive wildfire. Tyler then looks up at her from below, his gaze locked on hers while his hand remains steady on her thigh.
“Spread for me, baby.”
His command is quiet, charming nonetheless. It asserts his authority, but still carries that flirtatiousness he is displaying. He is not hesitant while commanding, and Nikki can easily tell. Her legs then begin to part more, and then, he settles down lower in between them, as if he knows he’ll fit snug and tight.
“Good girl…” he lowly coos, his whisper full of dominance as he places his hand on the lower part of her stomach, fingertips tracing tantalizing patterns as he feels just how flushed she is there. He lets a cocky, victorious smirk cross his lips.
“You’re flush there, sweetheart,” he whispers flirtatiously.
He then moves in, slowly kissing the inside of one of her thighs, then the other. He is slow, well-calculated, as he earns a soft whimper and guttural growl from her lips. His mouth then retreats, right where he knows Nikki wants him to be. He smiles, the corners of his lips turning into a smirk, as he then brings his tongue out. He licks his lips in a desire manner, though flirtatiously, before he brushes them against the damp lace in between her legs. Her body trembles, quaking as he does so. The fire is slowly burning up by the minute.
“Tyler–”
“Shh,” he plants a gentle, intimate kiss right over her center.
Then, he goes for it. Slowly, he licks through the lace. A passionate yet whimper of hunger echoes from her throat. He softly purrs, a firm hand resting on her thigh as if he is attempting to ground her again. Her hips jerk as he then presses his hand into her thigh more firmly.
“Relax, baby. That’s it. Good girl,” he murmurs, voice rough but intimate. “Let me feel you.”
He keeps his tongue on the fabric of her panties before moving his lips across it, a stripe so tantalizing that Nikki leans her head back, letting out a cry of pleasure, desperation, and even hunger ringing out all at once. She wants more. She wants to feel him mark her, claim her. She then screams out his name, like a prayer.
“Oh oh! Tyler! Baby…”
As she does so, she feels herself leave discharge on her panties. She softly gasps while Tyler smirks.
“You’re so soaked, sweetheart,” he growls lowly, pushing his lips deeper against the fabric. He then lifts his head, locking his predatory gaze onto her while running a finger against the stripe he has left behind.
“Mmh, am I?” she murmurs lowly, clearly in heaven.
He lowly chuckles, a dark and rough mixture combined. “Yes, darling. You are.”
Then, he flicks the fabric material to the side with his finger. Nikki lets out a soft gasp that escapes her lips in between whimpers as she feels nothing between her center and Tyler’s mouth. Heat blooms across her body as she feels his tongue trace a slow and craving path, with each movement being well calculated with purpose.
Nikki buries her hands in Tyler’s hair, hungry for more. He softly moans upon feeling her nails in his scalp, the sound vibrating against her. The sensation rips out a whimper coursing through her throat.
“You taste so good, baby. So freaking good,” he whispers against her center before diving in, his tongue licking deeper, his lips kissing her center while his hands spread her legs out even farther. She whimpers, crying out into the dimly lit bedroom. Meanwhile, he smirks, his kisses and licks just right, circling in her passionately as her hips and thighs begin to quake, the fire coursing through both of their bodies like never before.
He half-smirks, half-smiles, as he eases up, albeit just a bit. His kisses and licks become softer as he now switches to just kisses. He takes his time around her center, now patient and tender. She can taste him there, feel him there. She’s savoring it, he’s savoring it.
“Mmh, good girl. There’s my good girl,” he whispers, before pulling his tongue away, fabric now covering her core once more, his hand gently petting it. A dangerous smile unfolds on his face as he does so. His fingertips then find the hem of her panties, tracing a tantalizing pattern, while she responds with a soft whimper and jerk of her hips.
“Tyler…I–I…”
He smirks victoriously as he then removes her panties, revealing the entirety of her core. He pushes his fingers inside of her slowly, as he senses the fire in her belly.
“Shh, don’t rush me, sweetheart,” he softly coos, teasing her with his fingers as they remain inside her.
She lets out a breathless laugh. “You’re tormenting me.”
He lets out a possessive chuckle before dipping his head low. His whisper is a low, sultry whisper and purr.
“Go on, baby…say it. Tell me you want more…more of my touch…more of my flavor…”
“Tyler, I-I want it…now. Please…”
He smirks, slowly pushing his fingers deeper within her. Upon feeling his contact in her, Nikki leans back further, a shrill cry of pleasure echoing in the room. He rubs his fingers just perfectly, index finger intimately rubbing her clit. She then gives way, collapsing under his touch. He watches her face and movements the entire time, her Christmas-themed nails curling into the sheets, indicating she is trying to hold whatever restraint in her is left, but can’t. Soon, she pushes against him, his fingers brushing against her clit. A dark, cocky smirk crosses his lips as his tongue slowly licks his bottom lip.
“God, you’re so soaked, baby,” he growls, pushing his fingers deeper. “Is that me from claiming and marking you? Or from the idea of me finally knocking you up just like you wanted?”
“Both,” she whispers, panting slightly from his touch.
He then pulls his fingers out of her, slowly but deliberately. A desperate whimper of hunger escapes her lips. He smirks before slowly getting up from the bed, removing his clothing. He slowly takes off his plaid jacket more. As he does so, Nikki reaches out to help, but he stops her, his hand right on her chest.
“Patience, baby,” he whispers. “This is the big moment.”
He then continues to remove his clothing, albeit thoroughly, as if he wants to tease her longer. He throws his flannel jacket to the side before taking his white t-shirt, which could make any woman crave his touch, off and over his head like it’s all second nature for him. He ruffles his hair, lips curled into a dominating, possessive grin as he then undoes his belt, followed by the removal of his jeans, throwing them onto the floor as if he had planned it all out for when the time came for the ultimate kill. Now, he is standing in just his underwear. He continues the endless teasing, wanting her to continue begging. He circles to her side, placing a hand on the pillar of the bed while his other hand rests on his hip.
“How are you feeling now, my queen?” he whispers teasingly, knowing just how much she is dying, craving for his kill.
“Comeplete. Now that you’re here,” she stutters, her whisper low and intimate.
He softly smiles, yet she can see that the corners of his mouth are more than just sincere and compassionate. They are carrying that mischievous glint that Tyler has been dying to show, but slowly and thoroughly. He wants to savor, take his time. Feel her fall into him slowly.
“Well, sweetheart, there’s more. And I’m going to make sure you know just how much I’m enjoying this moment and never want it to be erased.”
Then, he smirks gleefully, removing his underwear before moving closer to her, slowly lying on top of her, and begins to kiss her slowly as a desperate sound escapes her lips. Then, he goes for it, slowly pushing into her. She can feel it, little by little, minute by minute. His control is steady, and he grips her hips in place as he does so. He then seals her whimper, which is now dying and satisfying, with a kiss, still holding himself until he feels her slowly slip away. He’s got her now under his submission, his mercy, his control. He smirks darkly, a victorious gaze locking onto hers yet again.
“Feel me, baby?” he whispers, voice low and sultry as he brushes his lips against hers. “That’s me, claiming you as mine, me knocking you up just like you wanted. Every inch is hunger, my spark. And you take it so well, darling.”
She pants, breathless as her body rises and falls. Tyler lets out a dark laugh, taking that as a cue to make his move, albeit deeper this time. As he does, his pace is steady. Every push is more intense than the last, aiming to make an even greater impact than the previous one. He then removes one hand from her hip, sliding it back up to pin her wrists above her head, holding her down as his hips roll with hungry desire. The dominance isn’t rough or authoritarian. It’s purposeful; purposeful and well-thought-out.
A whimper and moan escape her lips. “Mmh…Oh! Tyler, baby–”
He grins victoriously as he hears it.
“Satisfied, sweetheart?” he asks, voice demure.
She nods, looking up at him. She can’t speak, but the look in her eyes is everything that tells him he doesn’t have to know through words. That glint in her eyes, the way she lies before him, splayed out and under his mercy and power completely.
He then sharpens his grin, now replacing it with a smirk that is cocky and triumphant at the same time. He then pushes harder, his fingers slipping back into her core, index finger palpating her clit in rhythm with his pushes. The heat radiates in her belly, sending her spiraling, whimpers and moanful cries of satisfaction now flooding and echoing across the room.
“You’re wet again, sweetheart,” he breathes, eyes locked onto hers. “I can feel you now pushing me. Are you gonna be the good girl you’ve been all night and finally chase me, now?”
“Yes–Tyler–I-I”
“Tell me, now. He commands, a free hand now on her hip possessively, voice sharp yet still carrying that flirtatious, underlying tone.
“Tyler, I-I’m a good girl…I’m gonna chase you–”
“That’s it. Beautiful baby. Just look at you. Lying underneath me and obeying my command, my lead.” He praises, voice now lowering while coming to a growl, his hips now pounding hard against her, fingers working her clit relentlessly.
“C’mere, baby. Let me feel you. Give yourself to me and let me free you,” he coos softly and flirtatiously.
She feels those words swirl around her, and she breaks. She gives way, the feeling of release and freedom coursing through her, thighs trembling as her eyesight becomes nothing but a blur. Tyler moans as he feels her tightening yet loosening up to let herself completely go in his mercy. He doesn’t calm down now. Rather, he is now chasing her through it, just as she is with him. He feels her release the remaining tension, the remnants of restraint finally coming out that she was building up inside her. He pushes her higher up, arching her hips a bit until she screams his name throughout the dimly lit bedroom.
“Mmh! Tyler, keep it right there, baby!” she manages to cry out before slumping back down onto the pillow, head leaning back as he then begins to let the last of his hunger turn rough for a bit longer. As he does so, he can hear her small whimpers of complete satisfaction.
“There you go. Just relax. I’m all yours now,” he soothes, his voice now gentle and hushed. He then settles down, slowly retreating from her as he lets out a tired yet satisfying moan escape through his lips as he then slowly covers her center with her panties. Meanwhile, she breathes heavily.
The room is now quiet, the ambient lighting bringing back the sense of comfort. Her heartbeat is steady, and Tyler’s body is a sense of warmth over hers. He presses his forehead against hers, his breath still ragged. For what feels like an eternity, there is no movement between the two. They just stay there, him wrapping his arm around her as if he is afraid she’ll disappear if he lets go. He then carefully turns her over so she is now facing him. She smiles, placing a hand around the back of his neck. He smiles in return, his hand on her arm as he gazes into her eyes, like he’s found his missing piece. His hand then moves to her cheek, gently cradling it. The touch is firm, yet loving.
“You okay?” he asks softly, his voice rough yet still carrying that underlying tone of care and concern.
“Mmh…I will be,” she softly smiles, still trying to recover from the sex they just had.
She then lets out a low, exhausted chuckle. “Not sweet and sugary anymore.”
He lovingly brushes a strand of hair from her damp face, gently kissing her cheek, a soft yet concerning frown forming on his lips. “Did I go a bit harder than I should’ve, sweetheart?” he whispers.
She slightly nods, a soft yet gentle whimper escaping her lips. It was no longer the whimper of hunger or craving that she had when desperate for his touch. “Yeah. It hurts a bit.”
He cups her face in his hands. “I’m sorry, love. Is there anything I can do to make you feel better? I didn’t mean to be so rough on you.”
She smiles, closing her eyes tiredly. “Mmh, maybe some aftercare and a nice, warm bath or shower. Please?”
He softly chuckles, planting a kiss on her lips. “Coming right up, my lady,” he whispers, slowly getting up from the bed and going into the bathroom. He then comes back out, settling back onto the bed, returning to the fabric of her panties. This time, though, he holds out a bottle of cool, relieving ointment. He squeezes a substantial amount onto his index and middle fingers, closing the cap of the bottle and putting it on the bedside table. He glances at her, a loving look in his eyes now.
“Let me know if I go too rough, baby,” he gently whispers, slowly pulling her panties back down and revealing her center again. He slowly moves his fingers close to her center again, gently inserting his fingers into her, the coolness of the ointment oozing all over her vagainal canal and clit.
Nikki relaxes, taking deep breaths as she feels the ointment. She relaxes under his gentle touch in contrast to his roughhousing from earlier. Soft, calming whimpers escape from her lips, indicating that the pressure is perfect and not too rough. He smiles lovingly, keeping his fingers where they are.
“Good. Just relax. I got this,” he soothes her lovingly, continuing the aftercare in her. After a few minutes, he can feel her finally settling down, ready to shut off after the long night they’ve had. Her body slowly rises and falls, her breaths now even and in rhythm. He relaxes now, beginning to gently massage her clit. His fingers gliding gently, that aftercare side of him slowly coming back from the possessiveness he had earlier. She breathes in and out, falling in rhythm with his massages. After that, he leans in, tongue gently licking inside her. She brings her legs to rest on each side of his shoulders, softly purring as she relinquishes it all in. he continues to lick her clit, lips pursing, complete, gentle kisses in between. He could feel her body rising and falling, soft purrs escaping from her, followed by whimpers that were telling him she was relaxed.
He then carefully pulls his fingers out from her center, gently covering it with medical gauze and tape to avoid a mess. He then covers her center with her panties, slowly getting up from the bed to prepare a hot bath.
“Stay here. I’ll be right back, and we’ll get you in that nice, warm bath in no time,” he murmurs, kissing the top of her head before making his way toward the bathroom. He sets the bathroom lights to a dimly lit setting, just like the bedroom lights. He runs the water while pouring Nikki’s favorite bubble bath scent, placing rose petals in the water, and tests it to ensure it’s neither too cold nor too hot. As he continues to check the water, it has reached the perfect temperature. He turns the faucet off, then makes his way back into the bedroom to help Nikki. He leans down beside her, resting a hand on her cheek.
“Hey, love. Your bath is ready,” he softly whispers, his breath a source of comfort and grounding.
She softly smiles in her half-sleeping state. “Mm, okay,” she whispers, slowly getting up. However, he stops her.
“Allow me.” Then, without another word, he helps her remove her clothing, carefully lifting her into his arms once he has finished doing so. Her head leans against his shoulder. She smiles, caressing his cheek with a manicured hand while her other one rests on his chest.
As they came to the side of the bath, Tyler wrapped her hair up in a microfiber hair wrap, then carefully placed her into the warm, bubbly water. She relaxes instantly, relishing in the soothing atmosphere in contrast to the heated, intimate atmosphere just a little while prior. As she relaxes, Tyler turns on multiple battery-operated candles to help set the mood of the surroundings around Nikki. He then turns on some zen music on his phone, Nikki closing her eyes completely now.
He smiles, watching the love of his life bask in the warm bubble bath. He leans down beside the tub, grabbing a washcloth.
“Can I?” he asks, wanting to make sure it was all right for him to bathe and massage her. She nods, smiling in her relaxing state. She carefully leans forward in the tub as he begins to bathe her, massaging her during the process.
“Feel better now, sweetheart?” Tyler whispers, continuing to massage her with the cloth. She smiles, taking his hand in hers.
“Yes, very much so,” she whispers in response, thumb brushing against his knuckles. She then leans against his hand, closing her eyes yet again as he continues to massage her. He gently kisses her lips, gently resting his head against hers. They stay there for what feels like forever, just enjoying each other’s company.
A few more minutes pass, and Tyler gently kisses the side of Nikki’s head. “Hey, time to get up. I know you don’t want to, but it’s late, and we should rest.”
Nikki stirs, a soft moan escaping her lips. “I know. But I don’t want to.”
He softly chuckles. “I know love. I know.” Here. I got you. He then carefully stands up, grabbing a towel. He helps her stand up, drying her off all over. He then helps her change into her pajamas, letting her hair fall from the towel that is holding it up. He drains the tub, turning off the battery-operated candles and big light of the bathroom before taking her into his arms again, and helping her back to bed. He then lays her down carefully as she slowly opens her eyes, reaching a hand out toward him. He smiles, lying down in the bed beside her, his hand resting on her hip while his other hand holds her close.
Nikki then turns around, facing him. “What do you see for us in five years? Engaged? Married? Family?”
A low chuckle rumbles through him. “I always thought I’d have kids someday. But I didn’t know who I would have them with until I laid my eyes on you,” he lowly murmurs as he kisses her cheek. “You’re my angel. My only one. I don’t want a family with anyone else. I just want that with you. As for an engagement, I have no doubt we’ll bypass that milestone. You’d be a beautiful bride. And I can’t wait for the time when you’re carrying my babies in you. You’ll look so gorgeous. So beautiful.”
She smiles, placing a hand on his cheek, her thumb tracing his jawline. “What do you think our first baby will be? A boy? Or a girl?”
A soft, heartfelt laugh escapes his lips. “I have no preference, although most dads want a boy. But, for me, I’d love a little girl.”
She opens her mouth in awe, a loving smile on her lips. “Really? Wow. That’s a first.”
He pecks her cheek. “Honestly, I just want a healthy, happy family. But yes. I’d love a little girl. Have her wrapped around my little finger and spoil her. She’ll be my sweet princess, my little girl.”
“And don’t forget her mama’s looks. I’ll be carrying her in me, so it’s only fair she shares most of my makeup,” she teases, feeling his hand go under her shirt and onto her stomach again.
He softly chuckles. “Of course. How could I forget?”
She smiles. “You can’t forget now. It’s going to be so beautiful, Tyler. You, me, and our little tornadoes running around and filling this house with laughter and love.”
He smiles, kissing her lips. “We do a good job of doing that already ourselves, even if it’s just heat primarily. But yes. I can’t wait to have our own little family. Especially when it’s the person I love the most and have loved since day one.”
She smiles, tucking her head under his chin as he wraps her in his arms. “Me too.”
He nuzzles into her, lazily rubbing circles on her shoulder. Minutes pass by in peaceful silence. The world is nothing but background noise to the two of them. Just her, him, and the dimly lit bedroom, a stark contrast to the overly colored neighborhood full of multi-colored Christmas lights and the never-ending chatter of those in the other houses of the neighborhood.
Tyler then gets up from the bed, turning on the Christmas tree that is fully engulfed in colored tree lights, invoking a nostalgic feeling that could be felt. The tree topper was a beautiful, crystal star, lit up in warm white lights.
He then moves back to the bed, lying down beside her yet again, reaching for the heavy, warm blanket to tug it over and keep them warm during the duration of the cold night. He then pulls her closer against his chest, lips brushing against the hairline of her head. As they then meet each other’s gaze, they can’t help but glance toward the top cover of the bed, where a piece of mistletoe is hanging. They then began sharing a passionate kiss, as if they were in a Hallmark movie. But, in reality, it felt just like that.
“I love you,” he whispers, adoration flooding his chest.
She smiles, warmth flooding her chest. “I’ve loved you forever,” she whispers, slowly turning over and sealing the deal with a loving, promising kiss. A taste of flavor that is like a sweet red wine.
He kisses her lips one more time. “Merry Christmas, Nikki Callahan. Or should I say, soon to be Nikki Callahan-Owens?”
She softly chuckles. “Such a tease. But yeah. Soon. Right?”
He smiles genuinely. “Yes. Soon.”
And just like that, she slowly begins to doze off in Tyler’s arms, falling asleep with the high school sweetheart she always had and was ready to continue their journey, although permanently in the near future, the Christmas tree sparkling in all the colors of the lights as they both felt the magic of Christmas cheer right in bed.

Chapter 3: Static In The Air
"He screamed into the wind, but the only answer was static."
**Begin to listen to Ashes – Claire Guerreso**
Tyler had always believed storms had a sound—some low, primal murmur that rumbled beneath everything else as if the earth were humming to itself. But the sound tonight wasn’t a hum. It was a roar. A hungry, churning roar that swallowed miles of farmland, roofs, fences, entire pieces of people’s lives, and spat them into the sky.
As the tornado continued to wreak havoc across the prairie, Tyler was unaware of the helicopter crash involving his wife. His main priority is to focus on alerting the residents of the ongoing storm, knowing that doing so could save lives.
However, this tornado’s direction was unpredictable. It would change its course so often, throwing everyone, even experienced storm chasers, off guard. During another storm chaser’s stream, Tyler watched as the group realized within split seconds that the tornado was moving right toward their direction. A couple of people were trying to get last-minute videos and photos of the funnel before the car horn began honking, the crew’s leader shouting at them to hurry up and get inside. Tyler’s eyes widened in horror. He had never seen anything like this before.
As the tornado continued its journey, Tyler found himself fumbling with his phone while driving. He was trying to get in contact with Nikki, unaware of the helicopter incident, trying to force a connection with the unprecedented amount of static that had filled the cell phone towers.
“Come on…come on, baby, pick up. Please…” Tyler pleaded, his breath shaking while his voice was just at the seams of cracking.
But the only response on the other end was hissing. Nothing.
More like a broken call.
Or maybe a call that couldn’t be broken, because it had never existed in the first place.
Static. Always static.
The emergency and power crews had warned that all the cell phone towers were down due to the storm. Power lines were laid across roads like twisted branches, hugging whatever debris was caught in between, like an animal catching its prey. Meanwhile, everyone’s communication was cut off. But knowing that didn’t help, nor put him at ease. In fact, far from it.
Nothing made it better.
He then lowered the phone from his ear and stared at the screen. No signal, not even a flicker.
Just then, he was quickly redirected back toward the road, his truck nearly mere inches away from going into a ditch until Boone intervened at the last second.
“T! Pay attention! You almost got us killed!” Boone shrieked as Tyler immediately grabbed hold of the steering wheel. Tyler narrowed his eyes, not appreciating Boone’s countering.
“Not now, Boone,” he frowned, before making another attempt to try and call Nikki again.
He dialed again.
Static.
He tried her work phone.
Static.
He tried again, this time with shaking hands that didn’t want to dial the numbers but did anyway, because not trying felt worse than hearing another dead line.
Still nothing.
He screamed. Not a word—just a sound, guttural and full of fear and fury. He screamed into the wind that whipped across the broken land and the storm that had already taken so much. He screamed because he needed the sky to give something back. Some sign. Some answer.
But the only answer was static.
As for Boone, that was enough to shut him up completely.
Tyler then pulled into the parking lot of a gas station, now making a last-ditch effort to see if he could get hold of Nikki’s workplace. He jumped out of the truck, wind pushing against him, blowing cold air through his jacket. The rain had stopped, but it didn’t provide comfort. Rather, it made him feel the terror crawling under his skin, adrenaline rush flooding through his veins at an unprecedented rate.
However, only more static remained. He then made his way back outside, pushing the door to the gas station open, hand gripping his phone tightly as if it were a lifeline.
“I don’t…ugh,” he sighed agitatedly, running a hand through his hair as he made his way back to the truck. He jumped into the driver’s seat, Boone not sure whether to ask him about their next steps.
“Now what…?” Boone asked, yet whispered as if it could set the usual bubbly and chaotic storm chaser off like a pressure cooker.
“We've got to go to Lily. She’s at my Aunt Gloria’s,” he said, setting his phone face down on the dashboard for the time being and pulling out of the gas station parking lot.
**Begin to listen to I Get To Love You – Ruelle.**
The ride to his Aunt Gloria’s place felt like an eternity. So many thoughts were crossing his mind. It was all a blur. He had no idea where Nikki was, and his daughter must have been scared, given the storms and the monster of a tornado still raging on.
As Tyler pulled his truck into the driveway of Gloria’s home, she immediately ran out to greet him and Boone. Lily was standing by the front door, clutching her stuffed white cat.
“Gloria!” Tyler called out as he reached her and pulled her into a tight embrace. The middle-aged woman sighed, relieved that her nephew was okay and not hurt. They then pulled back from their embrace.
“Anything you’ve heard regarding Nikki?” Tyler asked, voice carrying a somewhat hopeful tone.
Gloria sighed, shaking her head.
“No. Cell phone communication is down. We’re not going to get it back for probably a few days, more even.” She said, exhausted from chasing toddler Lily around. Tyler noticed it before making eye contact with his daughter, her eyes carrying a sense of terror and confusion. He quickly ran up the stairs before opening the front door and scooping her up in his arms. Immediately, Lily clung to him like a life vest as the rest of the Wranglers pulled up in their storm-chasing vehicles.
Gloria then ushered everyone inside as thunder rumbled lowly across the plains.
“Everyone inside. Let’s go,” she ordered, making her way back inside as everyone quickly followed her.
Lily whimpered. “Daddy…”
He smiled tightly, brushing a strand of hair from her face. Deep down, though, he could feel a lump rising within his throat, but he pushed it aside for now.
“It’s okay, baby. I’m here. You’re okay,” he softly cooed, kissing the tip of her head.
Lily buried her face in his chest, grip now secure on him as if she was afraid he’d let go. It only made the lump in his throat tighten.
“Is Mommy coming home?”
The question hit Tyler like a punch to the gut.
He quietly gulped. “Not yet, sweetheart,” he whispered.
“When will she be back?”
He hesitated. The seconds felt like hours. He wanted to say soon. He wanted to say right now. But the lie stuck in his throat, and the truth wasn’t something he could give her, because he didn’t know it. He didn’t know anything beyond the static that was lying before them.
“We’re looking for her,” he finally said, brushing his lips against her hair.
“I’m trying to call her. The storm messed up the phones.”
Lily pulled back just enough to look at him. Her eyes were large and round, reflecting a mix of fear and trust.
“But you’ll find her, right?”
Tyler’s heart twisted so hard he felt it physically.
“Yes,” he said. “I’m not giving up.”
Lily softly whimpered.
“Promise?”
“I promise,” he whispered, kissing the top of her head.
He shifted her into his arms as she rested her head against his shoulder; however, it was clear he was exhausted. Gloria watched with concern.
“You need to rest. Lily has yet to eat.”
Tyler immediately shot a worried glance at her.
“What do you mean?”
“I’ve tried getting her to eat, but she has not touched her plate.”
Tyler sighed. He then turned back to his daughter.
“Baby, you need to eat. I’m sure your tummy is rumbling.”
Lily whimpered.
“I’m scared. I want Mama.”
Tyler softly sighed, kissing her forehead.
“I know, honey. I know. I want her here now more than ever.”
Lily’s tummy began to rumble. She softly whimpered as Tyler handed her to Gloria. He then rubbed her tummy.
“Go eat, princess. Daddy will be right back.”
Lily softly nodded as he kissed her forehead before heading back to his truck. Gloria caught up to him, a worried look etched on her face.
“You need to rest,” she said. “You’ve been out here since early evening.”
“I can’t sit down. Not yet.”
“Tyler—”
“No.” His voice cracked on the word. “I can’t.”
**Begin to listen to Rescue - Lauren Daigle**
Gloria’s expression softened.
“We’re all worried. But you need to pace yourself. We’re not losing you either.”
He didn’t respond. He couldn’t. The weight in his chest felt like a stone, heavy and immovable.
He turned away again, scanning the dim horizon. The distant wail of sirens drifted across the fields. Search teams were still combing through rubble. Other families were waiting for news too. Crying. Shouting. Clinging to hope the way he was.
It made everything feel both smaller and impossibly huge at the same time.
He walked back to his truck, climbed inside, shut the door, and pulled out his phone again.
Maybe this time…
He dialed.
Nothing.
He dialed again.
Nothing.
He dialed a third time, fingers trembling so hard he could barely tap the screen.
Static.
He gripped the phone, knuckles turning white.
“Come on, babe,” he whispered to no one. “Call me. Anything. Just… something,” he pleaded.
He thought about their last conversation together. About how she promised their daughter she’d be home before she woke up from bed.
Soon had come and gone. And then, hours had come and gone.
Then the tornado touched down.
He shut his eyes. He didn’t want to imagine her pinned somewhere, hurt, calling out with no one to hear, or worse…
But he needed to know.
Not knowing was torture itself.
He let out a frustrated sigh, leaning his head back agains the seat to try and relax a bit. But it wasn’t simple when your wife was out there somewhere and you couldn’t get a hold of her. Just then, Dexter ran outside.
“Tyler, Tyler!”
He shot up, neck nearly cricking upon turning toward the source of the noise.
“What is it, Dex?” he softly sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“You need to come inside. Gloria was able to get in contact with Nikki’s workplace on her home phone. They may know something about her last appearance. Come on.”
Tyler quickly jumped out of the truck, the door shutting loudly as he raced back inside. Dani and Boone were sitting on the floor, playing with Lily as they were able to distract her with her stuffed animals and toys. Gloria was holding the home phone while Dexter came back inside with Tyler.
**Begin listening to Say Something - A Great Big World feat. Christina Aguilera**
“Give me the phone. Give it to me,” Tyler commanded, reaching for it.
Gloria nodded, handing it out to him. He snatched it, though unintentionally, as he spoke into the receiver.
“Hello?” He said, his voice carrying a sense of desperation for answers he didn't have.
“Tyler, this is Ryan, Nikki’s colleague,” the man on the other end of the line replied, trying to keep his voice steady.
“Where’s Nikki? Where is she?”
“Tyler, we don’t know-”
“Did she go out during the storm?” he asked, his voice seething with anger.
“Tyler, we’re trying to figure that out-”
“Ryan, it’s a simple question! Did she, or did she not go out in the storm?” he asked again, his tone now borderline angry. Lily quickly got up from the floor, distressed about her father’s temper.
Upon seeing this, Tyler’s heart clenched. He didn’t mean to scare her. He was overwhelmed, stressed about her mother—his wife.
“Lily, I’m sorry, honey-”
Boone immediately picked her up, standing up from the floor as Dani held onto her stuffed cat while rubbing the little girl’s back with her other hand.
“It’s going to be okay. He’s just stressed, sweetheart,” Dani coaxed, trying to give some relief to her.
“I’ll bring her upstairs,” Boone replied, starting his way upstairs toward the toddler’s room.
“No, I want her here,” Tyler urged, his hand stretched out as he had Nikki’s colleague still on the phone.
“She’ll be upstairs. She’s safe with us, Ty. You need to calm down. She needs you to be strong for her while you try to locate your wife.”
Tyler sighed, focusing on the call. He went back into the kitchen, the conversation now mumbling as he was out of earshot from everyone.
“Ryan, please give me something. Anything,” he pleaded.
Ryan sighed.
“I’m sorry, Tyler. But I don’t-”
Tyler’s eyes narrowed dangerously as he cut off Ryan.
“Are you kidding me?! You’re her colleague! You’re supposed to know what’s going on!” he shouted, anger rising throughout his body.
“Don’t you DARE shout at me!” Ryan scowled, temper rising to match Tyler’s.
“My daughter needs her mother, and I need my wife! You’re on desk duty! Meanwhile, she flies out there every time after a storm, rescuing lives! The least you could do is at least have tabs on her while she’s doing so!”
Ryan sighed. He knew Tyler was right.
“Of course. You’re right. I’ll start getting some details right away-”
Tyler scowled.
“Damn right you better,” he growled before hanging up the phone.
Gloria sighed, resting a supporting hand on his shoulder.
“You shouldn’t be so harsh on him. He’s doing his best.”
Tyler scowled.
“He doesn’t have to worry about leaving behind his wife or kids. He doesn’t have to worry about his wife being out there saving lives after this dangerous storm. He doesn’t have to worry about whether or not his wife is coming home or not coming home.”
Gloria knew he was angry, but this wasn’t healthy, especially in front of his daughter.
“I know. But Lily is scared. She doesn’t understand why you’re like this. You need to set an example for her. She needs you here, not seeing you all angry and upset. Nikki is your priority, yes, but so is Lily. The emergency crews will find her and tell us. However, Lily only has you.”
Tyler sighed, realizing his aunt was right. Lily didn’t understand. She was scared, afraid. She was too little to know why he was getting angry. All she saw was him getting irrational, not the fun and loving parent he usually was.
Tyler shut his eyes, unshed tears managing to slip past his cheeks. He buried his face in his hands, the coolness of his wedding ring a stark contrast to the intense heat of blood pressure coursing through his veins. Gloria embraced him in a warm, loving hug.
“It’s going to be okay, hon, it’s going to be okay. We’ll find her. For now, though, focus on Lily.”
Tyler nodded.

“I will. I just need some air,” he whispered before slowly making his way outside of the old farmhouse.
As he stepped outside into the humid air, newscasts of the tornado’s devastating aftermath echoed across other houses. Given that Gloria was in a small town, it was common for major news reports or broadcasts to be televised in everyone’s home. But it only worsened Tyler’s anxiety. He placed his hands on his head, wanting to rip his hair out. However, he couldn’t do that. He had a daughter to focus on, to make sure she was okay.
He stepped back into the house, the door shutting behind him. He made his way upstairs toward Lily’s room, where Dani was watching her sleep to make sure she wasn’t alone. She then stood up from the chair beside Lily’s bed, letting Tyler take it if need be.
“You doing okay?” she whispered, wanting to make sure he was alright to stay with his daughter.
“Yeah. I will be…right now, my baby girl needs me,” he whispered lowly to avoid waking up the sleeping toddler.
As if on cue, though, Lily softly yawned. A slight whimper escaped her lips as she rubbed her eyes. Instantly, Tyler’s heart clenched. He immediately pushed his worries to the side, rushing toward his daughter’s bedside and picking her up.
“Come here, baby,” he softly cooed, cradling her tightly against him as he lay on her bed, her small figure now positioned on his bigger form.
Lily began whimpering, shaking against his body. The poor girl was scared to death; the chaos felt like a storm she couldn’t escape.
Tyler could feel his heartstrings clenching tighter. He immediately circled his large, muscular arms around her to ensure she was safe and everything would be okay. Though deep down, he knew something bad had happened.
Dani approached the father-daughter duo, resting a hand on his arm for support.
“You’re not alone in this, Ty. We promise.”
Tyler didn’t say anything. He just held his daughter close as she slowly drifted back to sleep. Dani took that as a cue to leave the two of them be for now and join everyone else downstairs.
As the night wore on, Tyler and Lily had managed to get some sleep; however, Tyler would often find himself waking up, thinking Nikki would be in the bed, joining her family. He thought of her French manicured nails brushing against his calloused ones, providing warmth and comfort after a long day and night of being separated. But that was just an illusion. It was always him and Lily. He softly sighed, trying to fall back asleep.
A couple of more hours passed, and Tyler eventually woke up. He carefully laid Lily back down to avoid jostling her, covering her with the blanket as she snuggled her stuffed white cat.
He then made his way downstairs. It was well past midnight. He hadn’t eaten, he hadn’t slept well, even if he could.
His mind kept replaying everything about her—how she laughed, how she said goodbye that early evening, how she always texted when she got stuck late at work or responding to a late-night emergency call, how she kissed Lily’s forehead before leaving the house.
“You’re thinking yourself into the worst-case scenario that you don’t even know is going to happen,” Dexter said quietly.
“Because it’s possible.”
“Possible isn’t the same as true.”
“But I don’t know,” Tyler whispered. “And not knowing is—”
“—killing you,” Dexter finished, voice soft. “Yeah. We can see that.”
He could feel his friends’ eyes on him— Dani, Dexter, Boone, Lily, and even his Aunt Gloria. They hovered nearby, giving him space but refusing to leave. Their presence was a lifeline he hadn’t asked for but desperately needed during this terrifying time.
“Let’s go check the back roads,” Dani said. “The news said it’s been cleared for the most part.”
Tyler stood immediately. “I’m coming with you.”
“No,” Dexter said firmly. “You’re exhausted. You can barely stand.”
“I’m fine.”
“You’re not. Sit down before you collapse.”
Tyler’s jaw tightened. Fury—no, fear dressed as fury—burned brightly in his chest.
“I’m not sitting,” he said. “I’m not waiting anymore.”
“Tyler—”
“I said I’m not waiting!”
His voice echoed across the house, bouncing off walls and corridors.
Gloria stepped forward slowly.
“Honey,” she said gently, “we know. We know you’re scared. We’re all scared. But you need to be here when they find her. You need to be steady when they bring her to you.”
Tyler’s throat closed, a large lump forming in his throat while a knot tightened in his stomach.
“What if they don’t?” he whispered, barely audible.
Gloria reached out and touched his arm. “Then we face that together, too. You are not alone.”
He felt something in him crack—like a branch giving way under too much pressure from wind; like what storm clouds did when they were balanced with too much moisture and unleashed their pain and fury.
He didn’t collapse, but he sat down heavily on the bumper of his truck, burying his face in his hands. Dexter sat beside him. Lily and Boone joined a moment later, Dani resting an arm around him.
He wasn’t alone. But the fear still clawed at him from the inside.
Hope and denial did a cruel dance in his chest. He kept trying to be logical, but logic meant accepting she could be… he couldn’t even finish the thought.
No.
Not unless he had evidence.
Not unless someone told him for certain.
He wouldn’t believe anything else.
So, Tyler refused to let fear determine his fate.
He refused to collapse.
He refused to give up.
Because somewhere along the lines of static, he knew something had to come to light. Anything, no matter what it could be. Even if that response was static.

When The Sky Turned Black: Chapter 2
AN: Hello everyone! It is finally time for Chapter 2! I'm so sorry for not updating last week. I had some things going on and that left me little to no time to write. Also tried something new with my playlist selection so let me know how that goes. I also apologize if this playlist is kinda not working / the best picked songs ever as some events do go back and forth. However I tried and I really want to get this chapter out to you guys. I hope you enjoy this chapter. A bit short compared to the first chapter but I promise the other chapters will make up for it.
As usual, reblogs, comments, likes, favorites, replies etc are greatly appreciated but not necessary. Hope you enjoy the second chapter and I'll see you all next week for chapter 3. Happy reading! ☺️
**Begin listening to playlist, starting off with A Storm Is Coming - Hans Zimmer. Then listen to Closer To The Edge - Thirty Seconds To Mars.**
“It didn’t fall from the sky – it was dragged down by rage.”
Tyler had managed to get in contact with the rest of his crew while driving toward the ongoing cell that was expected to impact El Reno. The wind howled against the side of his truck in violent bursts, rocking it side to side as the storm’s fury overtook the prairie. He held his radio in one hand, his other hand gripping the steering wheel tightly, voice steady despite the chaos around him.
As the leader of the Tornado Wranglers, multitasking wasn’t optional – it was survival. He’d done this song and dance countless times; eyes flickering between radar, road, and the sky. He could practically feel the rush of adrenaline coursing through his veins, heart pounding with fear and awe.
“Lily, get your drone into the air. We need your video stream as soon as possible.” Tyler ordered, voice clear and firm across the radio, cutting clearly through the static that had now filled the radio channels following the storm.
“Copy. Getting Cairo ready right now. He should be flying soon.” Lily replied. In the background, Tyler could hear Lily already prepping her drone, the sound of starting rotors spinning through her open mic, the familiar whirring and hum making him grin briefly. He then jumped onto Dexter’s radio, where he was keeping an eye on the cell.
“Dex, what’s the direction of the cell?” He barked across the radio.
“Still coming straight onward. Heading more toward the east. Rotation is imminent.”
Tyler frowned, eyes narrowing. “Keep your eye on that cell. Don’t miss a second of any ongoing activity. We’ll be going live prominently.”
Dexter nodded. “Copy. How far out are you?”
“About 10-15 minutes. If anything happens, start the stream without me and notify local weather stations. People will need all the warnings they can get and time to shelter if this escalates.”
“Copy,” Dexter replied, before jumping off the radio.
Tyler sighed, lifting his aviators onto his head. He ran a hand through his hair, already feeling the adrenaline racing through his body. He could only hope that the storm would stay away from populated cities and impact only open fields and farms. Even if it didn’t end well for farmers, at least there would be fewer fatalities, or so he hoped.
He then whispered through a silent prayer: Stay over opened fields. Don’t hit the towns. Don’t take anyone.
But the atmosphere didn’t care about prayers, nor did it have any mercy.
Within minutes, the clouds split apart like tearing paper, a churning funnel descending from the angry black and green sky onto the earth below – ground and sky merging in violent marriage.
It didn’t form. It erupted.
The tornado made contact with the ground, like a monstrous and furious birth. Immediately, multiple subvortices could be seen whipping around the base like snakes.
Dexter immediately jumped onto the radio.
“Tyler! We’ve got a multi-vortex! Multi-vortex tornado confirmed!”
Dani then jumped onto the radio, her voice tense but controlled. “I’m calling this into the weather service now. This needs to be upgraded to a warning.”
Dani was right. This was a dangerous storm, and anyone caught in the crossfire would be at risk of being caught off guard. No one could afford to receive a late warning.
Tyler’s eyes narrowed as he tossed his aviators off his head and onto the dashboard. His knuckles whitened on the steering wheel, the metal of his wedding ring biting into his skin as if he was silently hoping Nikki would be inside her workplace, seeking shelter. He couldn’t focus on that now, though. He had to focus on the current task, warning people to get into shelter and get out of the tornado’s path.
Outside, the world screamed as if it were coming to an end. The tornado sirens wailed across the prairie land, their haunting message sending residents fleeing for their lives; families running toward their basements. Farmers abandoning tractors, dogs barking furiously at the sky. News9 and KFOR quickly jumped onto the air, interrupting the regular scheduled programming.
“We have a tornado warning for El Reno and the surrounding cities. This is a dangerous storm. Storm chasers have confirmed a large and violent tornado. Seek shelter immediately.”
And there was Tyler, in the midst of it, providing his stream, alongside other storm chasers who were out and about trying to chase the monstrous and deadly tornado.

Meanwhile, back at the hospital, the air vibrated with the same electric tension that could be felt across the Oklahoma plains. The sky, already displaying a greenish and black bruise, was heavy with menace. Nikki finished fueling her helicopter, checking the gauges and instruments. She had been preparing for a possible post-storm rescue mission, not an active flight during a warning. It was too dangerous. Then, her supervisor, Martha, ran across the tarmac of the hospital rooftop, clipboard in hand, expression tight.
“Owens! We need you and your crew to airlift a patient to Mercy just outside Oklahoma City. He needs specialized cardiac care, urgently!”
Nikki froze. The tornado sirens were screaming their song, indicating danger was on the way.
“Are you insane?! We have a tornado warning going on!” Nikki shrieked, shocked that her supervisor was oblivious to the ongoing severe weather around them.
Her co-pilot, Jack, also agreed.
“It’s suicide for us to fly in this! The radar is flashing like lightning! One wrong gust of wind, and we’ll be upside down before we can say mayday.”
However, Nikki knew. More than anyone else on her team. Her husband was a storm chaser for crying out loud. He was famous. He was a newly social media star with a passion for chasing storms and livestreaming them. He had told her and their daughter time and time again about the intrinsic dangers of storms and how to be safe if they got caught in one. One of the lectures, though, was to NEVER, EVER operate an aircraft during a tornado, as that was against FAA regulations. Tyler had seen many fatalities come from people riding it out in cars and semis. Knowing Nikki, he knew she would still try to make a run for it and be able to come back before the brunt of the storm came. However, today wasn’t the day. She could feel the knot in her stomach tightening as if telling her not to go out. No matter what, she had a husband and a daughter to come home to.
“No. Jack is right. We can’t risk it. We can’t save others if we put our lives in danger. We’ll be of no help to anyone when this storm clears.”
Nikki’s closest friend, Amy, agreed wholeheartedly. She was on desk duty for the night instead of flying with Nikki and the rest of the crew.
“She’s right. It’s not safe. Who knows what that tornado will do? It’s also against regulations, Martha. You know that.”
Martha scowled. “This is because of your storm chaser boyfriend, isn’t it?”
Nikki narrowed her eyes. “He’s my HUSBAND. Thank you very much. And yes, I’m following his instructions. It’s dangerous to operate aircraft while this tornado is coming through. So no, we’re not going. We’re staying right here. This patient can get treated here. We have more than the necessary equipment to care for him. Why do we need to fly?”
Martha quickly cut her off.
“You’re here to save lives, Owens! What? You think your storm chaser of a husband is the hero? No. He’s just pretending. He’s filming chaos just for clicks. We are the real heroes. We go out there to save lives. Truly and wholeheartedly. This patient needs to get treatment! It’s your duty! You are supposed to be here for the people! Not for your personal feelings! Now pack up and get going!”
Amy countered. “Martha! You can’t let them go! This is against FAA regulations!”
Martha scowled. “You took the oath, Owens! We have patients to care for! Patients who need to be airlifted. We can’t wait til after the storms. It’s not bad out there. Nine times out of ten, it’s a false alarm anyway. You’ll be back before the brunt hits.”
Nikki quickly countered. “Amy, let it be. She’s right. We’re here for the people. We can’t let our personal feelings or emotions get the best of us. We’ll be back before it hits. It’s still a way out.”
And instantly, Nikki and her crew loaded the patient into the paramedic helicopter, unaware they were heading into the lion’s den and ultimately, their demise.

Meanwhile, the tornado continued its dangerous path across the prairie fields, taking everything and anything that was in its path, leaving very little to no mercy. Tyler was featured on several local weather stations, as well as The Weather Channel, informing people about the monstrous storm that was looming ahead. Then, without warning, the tornado had shifted just northeast, from a southerly direction. Tyler watched, eyes widening.
“Whoa, are you seeing this?” Lily called over the radio. “This tornado is shifting nonstop.”
Tyler sighed. It wasn’t exciting knowing your wife could be in potential danger. He didn’t hesitate before pulling his phone out of his pocket and dialing Nikki’s phone. However, no response. He let out a frustrated sigh.
“Come on, Nikki. Pick up,” he pleaded, trying her phone again. It rang again, and still, no response. He ran a hand over his face before throwing his phone onto the dashboard, a knot tightening in his stomach that was too hard to ignore.
Boone, who knew something was going on, quickly jumped onto the radio.
“Ty, you want me to try her?”
Tyler just stayed silent, his facial expression blank and hollow. The sound of the tornado filled the silence – a deep, monstrous roar that swallowed the sky whole.
The helicopter trembled as it climbed higher, the rhythmic whir of the rotors echoing in the cockpit like a racing heartbeat. Rain pelted the windshield in sheets, blurring everything in sight. The sky was no longer dark. It was angry, rippling the greenish bruise that always came before all hell broke loose.
“Visibility’s dropping fast,” Jack warned, his eyes focused on the gauges. “We should turn around. This monster could swallow us at any point, and we won’t be able to gain control or stability.”
Nikki adjusted her headset, jaw tightening. “We can’t. We’re almost there. Drop altitude. Keep steady.”
The patient in the back groaned, monitors beeping faintly. Jackie, the flight nurse caring for the patient, did her best to stay calm. She then jumped on the radio com, voice cracking slightly. “Nikki, the instruments are reading the increase in turbulence. This isn’t just a squall line–”
Then, it hit.
The chopper jolted hard, as if a giant hand had swatted it from above. Alarms screamed across the dashboard, the aircraft lurching sideways as its view of the horizon tilted violently. Nikki fought against the controls, her hand gripping the cyclic tightly. Her heart hammered as her headset filled with the roar of the wind.
“Hang on!” she shouted.
Lightning flashed, illuminating the horror below. The storm wasn’t just close — they were flying on the edge of the tornado’s inflow, the air itself being sucked inward toward the spinning column that clawed at the earth just miles away.
The radar display flickered, then went black.
Static hissed through the comms.
“Mayday, mayday, this is LifeFlight Squad Three!” Nikki yelled, her voice trembling but focused. “We are experiencing severe turbulence — possible vortex inflow — we’re dropping altitude at 3,000! Request immediate assistance!”
However, there was no reply. The turbulent winds had knocked out all communication systems.
The only response they got in return was the storm.
Wind howled like a beast as the helicopter pitched downward again, rain slamming against the fuselage. The entire frame groaned, metal bending under pressure. Nikki’s fingers were slick with sweat as she tried to level the heavy aircraft.
Then came a sound she’d never forget — a deep, resonant boom that wasn’t thunder but wind colliding with itself.
“Tail rotor’s failing!” Jack shouted. “We’re losing control!”
The nose dipped. The altimeter spun downward. The horizon vanished completely — only gray, swirling chaos remained.
“Brace!” Nikki screamed.
The helicopter spun once, twice — the world a blur of lightning, rain, and panic. A violent updraft caught them, yanking the aircraft upward before slamming it back down with equal fury. Every alarm on the panel wailed in unison.
“Pull up! Pull up!”
“I’m trying!” Nikki’s voice cracked. “She’s not responding!”
The storm swallowed them whole.
Screaming followed.
A roar. Then a loud explosion and massive fireball filled the darkened sky, as if displaying Mother Nature’s fury aloud.
Static then silence followed.
And now, the only noise was the tornado continuing its treacherous and angry path.
When The Sky Turned Black: Chapter 1
AN: Hello all! And welcome to my first Twisters Fic. I'm so excited to share my writing online again and I hope you find this story very intriguing and enjoyable. A bit of a heads up, I'm new to this playlist selection so if you do finish any songs or don't get to finish them, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next set of songs when you get to them. I wanted to give options in case some read slower than others. So with that in mind, happy reading and let's dive right into the first chapter! ☺️

May 31st, 2013, El Reno, Oklahoma
“Nobody ever thinks it’ll be the last time – not on a day like this.”
The air in El Reno, Oklahoma, had its own flair to it. In the winter, it was cold and crisp. However, in the spring and summer, it carried the familiar, yet still heavy, stillness. The one that came before spring storms. It was a quiet pressure that could sit on your skin like the whisper of something waiting to happen.
Inside the Owens’ household, that stillness felt sacred. Too sacred in fact. The late afternoon sun flooded through the kitchen windows of the old yet elegant farmhouse. Honey-colored light scattered about, splashing across the wooden oak table where Tyler, Nikki, and little Lily sat for an early dinner. The whirring of the ceiling fan filled the silences between small laughter and the clanking of forks against plates.
Three-year-old Lily began to babble happily, pressing her green peas into the mountain of bright yellow mac and cheese. It was a quick and easy meal, something the family made when Nikki had night shifts to tend to and Tyler would be out for late storm chasing duties.
“Daddy, peas go in the Mac and cheese! See?” The happy toddler presented her masterpiece to her parents.
Tyler smiled, letting out a soft laugh as he watched his daughter work her fingers in small, precise moves. “So our little girl is a chef now, hm? Guess I’ve been doing it wrong then.”
Nikki smirked from across the table, her dark brown hair pulled into a ponytail. “That’s because you eat like a raccoon,” she said, taking a sip of her iced tea, “You could learn a thing or two from her.”
The playful banter came very easily, a natural rhythm that the two had perfected despite being married for only 3 years. 3 years, yet already filled with so much chaos and love. Tyler leaned back in his seat, feeling the rare calm of being still, being at home — not on the road, not chasing storms, not glued to a live feed or radar with oranges, reds, purples, or heck, even a hail or debris core with adrenaline flooding through his veins. Just here, with his beautiful wife and daughter.
For a while, it almost felt like peace.
**Begin listening to No Rest For the Wicked - Lykke Li. Then listen to Running With The Wolves - AURORA**
On the countertop, the television was flicked to News9, a TV news channel in Oklahoma City. The broadcast murmured through the background noise of the family’s laughter, breaking into the regular programming schedule with severe weather updates. On the screen, the local meteorologist, while having a map of Oklahoma displayed right behind him with swirling patterns of reds and yellows, spoke with a careful blend of calm and warning only weather people could seem to master, yet all too familiar for Tyler.
“We’re keeping an eye on a line of storms developing west of I-40. Conditions look unstable — elevated CAPE values, high dew points, and a strong jet stream overhead. Could see some severe development later this evening.”
Nikki barely looked up from her plate. She softly rolled her eyes. “They’re always overreacting. Just a hailstorm and a thunderclap or two. We’re all too familiar with this by now.”
However, Tyler was seeing things differently. The radar on the TV screen further collaborated with his thoughts completely. He was on prime time focus, eyes narrowing thoroughly as if he could sense a bigger storm was brewing. Despite being a newly self-made storm chaser with a well-known amount of followers, yet being able to read a radar, he saw those blobs of reds, oranges, and yellows as more than just colors. He saw them as pulse and motion. As power. He could see the instability within, rotation, yet subtle near the dry line. It was these little signs that made his stomach stir with something between excitement and unease. Yet that uneasiness felt superior to the excitement.
“Yeah,” he said quietly, trying to keep his tone balanced. “Maybe.”
Nikki caught that usual tone. She knew what it meant.
“Ty,” she started, her voice as gentle as rain, “You’re not thinking about heading out tonight, are you? It’s your day off.”
He shrugged, his eyes not fully meeting hers. “Just going to keep tabs on ‘em. If something does come close, I’ll intercept. Nothing crazy though.”
Nikki playfully rolled her eyes. “Nothing crazy,” she repeated, giving him the usual look she did when she knew deep down he meant otherwise. “The last time you said that, you ended up live-streaming a wedge tornado that was only a half mile away! And that was only just a few days ago.”
She was right. Back on the 20th, parts of Moore had suffered from a catastrophic EF5 tornado. The damage was so devastating that there was still a lot of cleanup going on, and everyone could only hope that nothing else major, or sinister in this case, would tear down from the sky again. At least for a while.
That was different,” he said, softly smiling despite the real cause of going out there that day. “That one was worth it.”
She let out a soft laugh. “You’re impossible, Tyler Owens. But I shouldn’t be surprised nonetheless. You do good work. All of you. And I’m proud to have a husband that’s willing to go out there and save lives with warning ahead of time.”
He smiled, taking hold of her hand as his fingers brushed against hers. “You love that about me.”
“I tolerate that about you,” she corrected, though her hand lingered against his, her French manicured nails brushing against his calloused hand.
Just then, Lily banged her spoon against her plate, demanding their attention. “Mama! Daddy! I made a pea mountain!”
Nikki and Tyler couldn’t help but burst into a moment of laughter. Sweet and simple. Tyler playfully ruffled their toddler’s hair while Nikki leaned against him, her hand resting on his chest and her head resting on his shoulder. Outside, a dog barked somewhere within the neighborhood. A train’s whistle echoed faintly from the tracks that cut through the town. The grassy plains and wheat fields blew against the rather calm wind. However, against the windows, the air pressed a little heavier. But no one noticed. Not yet, at least.
**Begin listening to Can't Help Falling In Love - Kinna Grannis. Then listen to The Blade - Ashley Monroe**
Later, while Tyler loaded his camera gear into his truck, Nikki stood in the bathroom, buttoning up her flight paramedic suit. The patch on her sleeve — Oklahoma LifeFlight — caught the last streaks of sunlight. She had worn this uniform through countless emergency response calls, whether they were at daytime or at night: highway pileups, farm accidents, tornado aftermath, and recovery. However, her work was always meaningful. She loved flying. She loved saving lives.
But that didn’t mean she didn’t have quiet ache feels whenever she left home — Lily’s laughter fading behind her, and Tyler’s truck rumbling off into the storms ahead.
Two people chasing danger in different ways.
She looked out toward the west, where the sky was already bruising — clouds stacked in hazy layers while slowly turning darker and sinister, distant thunder rumbling beneath them. She exhaled slowly. “Looks worse than they said it would be,” she murmured.
Nikki then stole a glance of her reflection in the mirror — tired eyes, chapped lips, a faint crease in her forehead from the endless night shifts and emergency calls she had been on with little to no rest. However, she managed a smile, just like always before her shift, a silent promise that she would be home again with her family. Little did she know that it was about to be broken by something deadly lurking in the shadows…
When she came back into the kitchen, Tyler was already helping Lily pack up her nighttime bag as she would be spending the night at his Aunt Gloria’s place. The energetic toddler was babbling about arts and crafts, along with the usual “storm booms”, her hair moving about as she giggled. Nikki bent down, kissing her daughter on the forehead. As she did so, she could smell that fresh lemon verbena shampoo — a sweet scent that made every goodbye harder than the last. For Tyler, though, it was her loving charisma and Lillie’s of the valley scent on her skin that made it harder to bid her a temporary farewell.
“Be a good girl for Aunt Gloria tonight, promise?” She said softly. “And no staying up past your bedtime.”
“Yes, mama,” Lily said half solemnly and reluctantly, already distracted with her stuffed white cat. “Are you going to fly your big helicopter, Mama?”
Nikki smiled. “Yes, baby. But I’ll be back home just in time to see you wake up. And we’ll all be together again. I promise.”
However, Tyler’s eyes met his wife’s. They both knew she might not be, and it was a terrifying thought. How right he would be, though in time.
Tyler led the way out to the front door of their farmhouse and onto the front porch. The last of the evening light was now stretching across the gravel driveway. The air felt different now — heavier, alive with a low electric hum that made the hair on his arms rise. He could feel the subtle changes taking place within.
Nikki adjusted her paramedic bag and looked at him. “Promise me something.”
He locked his gaze onto hers. “Anything.”
Nikki gently caressed his cheek, her fingertips brushing against the little facial hairs he had. “If it gets bad, don’t outdrive it. Don’t play the hero. Get underground. And if something happens to me, promise you’ll take care of our baby girl. Do you understand me?”
Tyler couldn’t help but feel the chills that went down his spine when she said those last few words of her prep talk. If something happens to me. Tyler couldn’t imagine what it would be like if his wife weren’t by his side. He couldn’t. They got through Moore just fine. They would get through this day. They had to. For it was a week after their Lily had just turned three. Things had to go smoothly. The worst that could happen was them responding to numerous calls related to the storms that would barrel through, right? Right…?
”Tyler!” Nikki called out, her voice rising a bit.
Tyler instantly shook himself, focusing his attention back to his wife. He glanced at her as she spoke again.
“Promise? No outrunning a storm if it gets bad and you’ll be there for our girl.”
Tyler softly laughed, a soft smile crossing his lips. “I promise love. I promise.”
She arched her brow. “You never do.”
He softly laughed again — the easy, reckless laugh that she had fallen for just a few years ago. His expression softened. “You have my word, Nik, I swear.”
But he couldn’t hold back that sick feeling of something sinister about to happen. He wanted to keep everyone inside that night. Away from the danger, away from the howling winds, hail, rain and everything else that was on the severe weather list. He wanted Nikki to call out sick. So all three of them could snuggle. For once he was regretting going out there and chasing storms. But, Nikki needed to be at her job and he had to keep tabs on these cells in case they were up to no good.
Then, they kissed — the kind that stretches time, quiet and lingering, full of things that could’ve been said yet weren’t. Lily giggled from the truck while Nikki smiled against his lips, whispering “See you in the morning. I love you.”
Tyler smiled, “I love you too.”
**Begin listening to Hurricane - Tommee Proffit. Then You Are The Reason - Calum Scott (Instrumental Version)**
She then turned around, making her way toward her car. She jumped into the driver’s side, starting the engine. As she did so, the headlights lit up, glowing for a second before she pulled out of the driveway and out onto the street to head for El Reno. Tyler stood still as he watched her leave, the taste of her goodbye still warm on his lips. With a soft sigh, he then jumped into his truck, Lily still squealing as she played with her stuffed animals in the back seat. He smiled softly as he watched his daughter play, starting the engine before driving out of the driveway towards his Aunt Gloria’s house.
As Nikki continued the drive toward El Reno, she couldn’t help but find peace. At first in that case. However, as she looked toward the west, she couldn’t help but notice the sky that was once filled with the orange sun, was now stacked upon layers of dark gray to almost black bruises, with the first flickers of lightning dancing in between the layers of clouds.
She then flicked the radio on.
“—National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Canadian County and surrounding areas until 10 p.m. Residents are advised to remain alert as storms begin to form along the boundary near El Reno—”
Nikki sighed. Of course. She thought. Storm season always found them both, no matter what promises were made. But that was Oklahoma spring for you.
At the hospital, the smell of the nighttime air was a mixture of rain and jet fuel as everyone ensured that the helicopters were fueled up and ready to go when an emergency call would be issued.
As the LifeFlight crew finished up their preparations, there was the joking banter amongst colleagues that flooded the runway. Nikki forced a smile, but couldn’t shake off a silent, twisting and churning feeling that was slowly beginning to form in her stomach — the kind of silent intuition that came from too many nights answering calls that started with static and ended in heartbreak.
Instead, she pushed it down and focused on her preparations. She had a job to do and she wasn’t going to let another regular storm system hinder her professional work. It was just in her head like all the other times.
Just another shift. Just another storm.
As Tyler pulled up to the driveway of Aunt Gloria’s house, the winds had picked up, snapping through the grassy plains around the farmhouse. Gloria met him out front, walking onto the front porch as he approached with Lily by his side. Her blonde hair was pinned up, wrinkles with worry etched deep into her face as she welcomed them inside.
“Are you chasing again?” She asked, folding her arms.
Tyler softly sighed. “These cells look like they’re going to live. Not sure when they will die out. Forecasters say it is an all night event.”
Gloria softly sighed. “Tornado watch has been issued. Just heard it on the radio a little while ago. I hope Nikki will be okay and no tornadoes touch down.”
Tyler sighed. “I know. But she’ll come home by morning. She’s got to.”
Gloria took a deep breath, focusing on the current events. There was no use in worrying about what would happen later. Right now, she had her nephew’s daughter to look after.
“You’ll be careful, right?” She asked
Tyler softly nodded. “Yes. I will. I’m not going to outdrive a cell or anything if it gets tornadic.”
“Ty-“
He softened. “Gloria, I will. I’ll be careful. I can’t leave my family. They need me. I know when it’s safe and when I have to move.”
She sighed, relaxing just a bit. “You always say that love. But storms don’t care how careful you are. They will take anything in their path with no mercy.”
**Begin listening to Time - Hans Zimmer**
He hugged her anyway, kissed her cheek, and promised he’d call. Meanwhile, Lily was already showing Gloria her stuffed animals and telling her about her pea mountain, oblivious to the heaviness in the air that was swarming around them. Tyler lingered just long enough to memorize her little voice echoing through the old house. He gave his daughter a kiss on her head before stepping back outside into the thickening air.
By now, the sky had darkened to a deep, unsettling gray. Even an almost black color. Lightning flickered off from the west again and thunder growled, as if the earth was getting ready to unleash its awaiting act of merciless destruction. Tyler climbed back into his truck, his camera rig sitting ready in the passenger seat, laptop with radar streaming live. The screen erupted in color — a growing cluster just west of El Reno.
He then adjusted the frequency of his radio
Static
Then, the calm voice of it broke through.
”We’ve got a new cell forming just west of El Reno. Tight rotation has been indicated. There is possible development of tornadoes within this cell.”
Tyler’s pulse immediately quickened. The thrill — the kind that never truly went away — rose up again. He knew he shouldn’t feel it, especially when his wife was out there and would respond to the aftermath of these vicious monsters. But the pull was too strong. This was who he was. All of him.
He started the engine. The headlights caught the swirl of dust as he rushed off onto the road. As he did, the first drops of rain fell onto his windshield as if marking the opening notes of something vast and inevitable.
He stole a glance at a photo that was taped to his dashboard — Nikki and Lily at the lake last summer, smiling under a tree on a sunny day. In that moment, he felt an old, conflicting ache: love and danger, both part of the same weather system.
Then, his radio crackled again.
“All spotters, we've got an update: radar indicates a hook echo southwest of El Reno. Tornado warning is imminent.”
Tyler gripped the wheel tighter, the wind now howling fiercely across the open plains.
He didn’t know that in just a few hours, the paths he and Nikki had taken — separate yet always intertwined — would cross again. But this time, the sky would be torn open.
And for now, he only knew the sound of his heartbeat and the growling of thunder calling him west.
AN: First chapter is done! I really hope you guys enjoyed it. Also please be patient as this is my first time in writing something. I haven't written for a while so I'm sorry if this isn't my best. Also, as I mentioned in the beginning, I'm new to creating playlists and if for some reason you do finish the songs or don't get to finish all of them, don't worry about it. I did this solely so everyone can enjoy my writing and since some people do read slower, I wanted to give them some more options. You are of course welcome to choose which songs may be to your liking of course. This is just recommended. I know I said this in the beginning but I figured I'd say it again in case you just happened to miss it and begin reading.
Anyway, that is my first chapter! Let me know what you guys thought about it. Reblogs and comments are appreciated along with feedback so I can improve and help make my stories more enjoyable and interactive.
See you next week for the second chapter of When The Sky Turned Black! ☺️
GLEN POWELL CHAD POWERS — CREATING WITH THE CATFISH (2025)
Glen Powell during the F1 US Grand Prix in Austin Texas
October 19, 2025
Yeah. I know. Late post but wanted to share these. I really wanted to enjoy this race but was sick 😭😭
And yeah. I'm still going to share the first chapter of my Twisters fic.
And this song reminded me of Glen while he was at the race
