Omg once I got all the piecing done, this came together so fast!!! There's plenty of imperfect corners, but I am so stoked about it!

Now I need to choose a backing and binding, get some batting, and make it a quilt!!

I need to be those fancy rich lady quilters I see on TikTok and do a quilt drop from my second story balcony, lol. Had to stand on my couch and have my husband take a picture for me, and you still can't see the whole thing 😂

I finished the quilt for my Grandma just in time! I finished the border yesterday, put it in the wash and sewed on the label this morning right before leaving for her birthday party.

My Grandma was the one who introduced me to fibre arts when I was about 4 or 5 and I used to spend at least one week of summer vacation at her place. When I came out as a lesbian and later as a trans man, she made sure that I always felt loved and accepted. I know that she will always be in my corner.

She turned 88 this week and is getting more and more frail, so it was important for me to finish this gift. She was very very happy about it.

I'm also very happy with how this one turned out! It was a big challenge time wise and I had to do the hand stitching for the border in a 35°C heatwave which was... not fun.

But it's done now and I feel so much more confident with lining up seams and corners!!

Plus my mitered corners improved so much from the first quilt, and I'm very proud of that.

I got started on my second quilt!

It's supposed to be a gift for my grandma who is turning eighty-eight this June, and the schedule is a bit tight because I got caught up in life and started too late. But it's still possible to complete it on time!

I'm hoping to add the borders and piece the background fabric this weekend so the boyfriend and I can sandwich on Sunday. That would give me a week for quilting and then a week for finishing things up.

Because of the schedule I didn't redo every seam I was unhappy with, but I'm still very pleased with how it's coming together! I did HSTs for the first time and I got the hang on chain piecing.

The white fabric is a bit thinner than the prints and is wonky in many places, but as a tradeoff almost all HST corners turned out super sharp and I'm very proud of that!!

Sandwich is complete and I got started on the quilting. I decided to do diagonal (more or less) straight lines and I got this beautiful gold thread that I think works very well with the prints.

I'm struggling with the diagonal lines because my kitchen table is too small to support the rolled up quilt, but I only realized how hard it would be after I was already committed.

I also struggled with the white fabric during the sandwiching, because it felt very flimsy and wonky. I'm not sure whether this is a fabric issue or a me issue. I also never learned how to press properly, which probably doesn't help either.

All things considered, I'm super happy with the progress tho!!

I completed my first FPP pattern! It's a gift for a friend of mine called Robin, who is moving further away with their partner.

I had a lot of fun visiting a local quilt shop and picking out nice prints for this. At the beginning I struggled a lot with right sides and turning the fabric and the paper templates, but then it suddenly clicked and it was smooth sailing from then on.

Still haven't figured out how to properly resize patterns meant for US printers to print them on European sized paper, so I had a friend print the pattern for me.

I'm super happy with how this turned out, but I think I prefer traditional piecing and will only occasionally revisit FPP.

Pattern is The European Robin by Griffin and the Bear Studios.

i'm sooooooo close to being done this quilt! I finally got all the hand appliquéd elements on last night (there's like 54 or something haha). I'm just waiting on some hand quilting thread & I need to piece the backing & then I'll be practically done.

This is my own design. I did all the math & figured out how to do my weird ratio of half-rectangle triangles. I made my own foundation paper piecing templates for sections. And I even learned the accursed pen tool in order to make vector templates for the appliqué elements.

I'm already picking out colors and plans for the next quilting project. Third picture shows my cat making herself a blanket fort cave and attempting to burrow into it.
