“Open the door or I’m gonna throw rocks through your windows, you dumb whore!”

Bruce, voice frantic and muffled from the other side of the door, “Who taught you that word!”

“I HEARD IT ON TV!”

“WHAT TV SHOWS ARE YOU WATCHING?”

“You’d know if you weren’t so busy with TALIA!”

Jason: who would you save from a burning building?

Dick: Damian.

Tim: ah, toasty.

Alfred: Tim.

Damian: the animals.

Bruce: my time.

They all turned to him. He paused confused.

Bruce: what? I trained you better than that, I know for fucking sure you can all get out of that building by yourselves.

Jason: huh.

Tim, turning to Dick offended: Damian?

Dick, blushing:

Tim: you’re no longer my favorite.

Bruce, nervously and gently: so, Tim. Timmy. Timothy boy. You have any plans to move out yet?

Tim:

Tim: I suddenly don’t feel like I’m in a safe space anymore.

Bruce: cmon kiddo, I’m just suggesting now might be a good time-

Tim: Jason told me this would happen, where is he, jason! Jason… JASON!

Jason, freezing as he’s rummaging in the fridge behind them.

Jason: this seems kind of personal-

Tim: I’m moving in.

Jason: I just got away from you. Do you know how hard it is to get away from a stalker?

Tim: stop being dramatic Jason.

Tim: I watch you sleep every night anyways.

Jason:

Jason: yeah, not only is he not moving in, but I’m also getting an electric collar on him that zaps him whenever he comes within ten feet of my front door.

Bonus:

Later that night Jason gets into bed. Flicks the switch off. There’s this eerie feeling though that the back of his mind. He quickly sits back up turning the light on and turns looking into his room but it’s empty.

Jason, getting a sense of dejavu: I suddenly don’t feel like I’m in a safe space anymore.

Tim, playing on his phone in his closet: I’ll protect you, boo.

Talia:

Talia: cool. You’re gunna go live with your father now.

Tim: I have a policy when my relationships end.

Tim: you have 24 hours to come get your shit or it goes to Jason.

Jason, looking up as if this was news. Looks down at the the shirt he’s wearing while pinching it, pulling it out. Stares at the giant red S. Shrugs and resumes scrolling at his phone.

Dick: that’s horrible.

Tim: they know this going into it.

Steph: it’s fair.

Dick: you’re ok with this.

Steph: I steal his shit now, why does not matter if we’ve broken up or not?

Steph: but yeah. And I’m not petty, I gave it to him knowing I might not get it back. I did love him at some point.

Dick:

Dick: and you’re ok wearing their shit?

Jason: it did feel weird wearing Steph’s thongs but yeah.

Dick: you did not.

Jason: I didn’t know.

Dick: you did not!

Jason: of course I fucking didn’t!

Jason: they didn’t fit.

one of my recent favourite headcanons is the idea that the lazarus pit’s effect on Jason isn’t just an increase in his anger/negative emotions, but rather just an increase in energy overall; and the reason that translated to anger when he was first in gotham was just because he got hyper-focused on the robin thing and being angry at tim was the only way for his brain to let out that energy. i like to think when jason isn’t hyper-focused on one specific thing/activity he just gets really easily distracted/finds it hard to keep still and starts bouncing about like a bored child waiting for his mom to finish speaking to her friend at a grocery store. like—essentially, i like to think that the lazarus pit gave jason his own little abstract version of adhd.

it probably confuses the fuck out of the bats when jason stops being hyperfocused on the robin/joker situation and they start witnessing this new normal, because jason as a child i think was Not Like That. he was quiet, loved to curl up and relax with a good book and was very methodical/matter-of-fact about the way he completed tasks. i imagine jason reintegrating himself into the batfamily and being all frantic/easily distracted/bouncy all the time would confuse the fuck out of them; especially when damian just ignores it/works around it like it’s normal. but the funniest aspect of this is how i think jason would have been at the league.

i just keep imagining talia and ra’s trying to deal with it. they resurrected the second robin thinking they were going to get a great powerful warrior and asset to potentially use against batman in the future and instead they got a jason todd who wont stop zoning out during meetings and has to constantly be reminded what mission he’s even been assigned.

talia sends him out to kill some guy and jason returns with no kill and a bunch of knitting supplies because he walked past a store and got distracted by the cool patterns being advertised.

damian is Well Used to reminding jason of appointments/specifically timed events because the lazarus energy fizzes about in his mind so much that jason just Has No Concept of time or time management anymore. he is late for Everything without damian keeping tabs.

ra’s is the most resigned man on the planet whenever jason is around him because he cannot argue that jason is still really fucking valuable to have on side—it’s just that any meeting jason is a part of will always end with him getting bored/distracted and rambling about some completely irrelevant subject. or just drawing on his legs under the table with a marker.

essentially i think it would be fun if the lazarus pit gave jason less-negative-but-still-visible mental effects, and damian’s the only one in gotham who’s like ‘yeah he’s just kind of like that now. really tested the league’s patience.’ while the bats watch him zone out during a break-in reconnaissance mission at an aquarium to stare at the fish and then read all the fact-plaques on the wall just. baffled.

Tape_08 From the League

The camera angle is low down and stable, like Damian has placed it onto a table rather than having to hold it himself. It seems to be in some sort of conference hall, or perhaps a meeting room, and at the closest end of the table to the camera Talia stands tall, professional and regal in stature. Her arms are held neatly in front of her as she grasps a brown file, scanning sternly the contents. in the back corner of the room an entrance door is carved out of dark brown glossy wood, and two masked assassins guard it robotically. On the right side of Talia, sitting at the table almost directly opposite from where the camera is, Ra's sits, looking displeased. The only other person in frame is Jason, who stands a few steps behind Talia. Unlike his adoptive mother, Jason does not look regal, nor professional. Instead he wears a pair of dark baggy sweatpants and an oversized knitted hoodie, cream with multicoloured daisies dotted across the textile. The sleeves are long enough on him that they cover his hands, and one of the 'paws' holds up a piece of plain bread to his mouth, which he munches on absently, eyes unfocused as he stares into the air above the table. 

"-Twenty-six casualties, something which could have been lowered significantly had we been aware that rebellions were starting to form. How did that happen?" Talia demanded, staring coldly at somebody across the table, out of range of the camera. Jason takes another bite of bread, slowly spinning on his heels back and forth, seemingly very bored. 

"Lady Talia, I assure you we were not underprepared," An unrecognisable male voice assures from across the room. "We had a man on the inside of the rebellion group who was supposed to be updating us on the progress weekly." 

"And yet I had no word of any uprisings taking place." Talia turns to look at Jason, who continues to spin. She doesn't blink, simply prompting, "Jason? Were you aware?" 

Jason barely glances at her, leaning his head back and stretching his arms about to disinterestedly sway from side to side. He shakes his head, shoving the last of his bread into his mouth. 

"Care to explain why nobody but you were aware of these uprisings, then?" Talia coldly asks, turning back to face the table. Behind her, Jason looks around before turning to his side, starting to moonwalk back and forth behind her. 

"U-uh," The man responds, now seeming nervous. "We had no reason to believe the rebellions were headed anywhere; we made the collect decision that unless there was certain danger it wasn't a matter you should be bothered with."

Jason snorts, swallowing his mouthful of bread. 

"And now twenty-six good soldiers are dead. What happened to your man on the inside?" Ra's snaps. 

"We only found out after the attack. They found out he was a leak and dispatched him before he could alert us." The man responds. Jason, apparently bored of moonwalking, wanders back over to Talia and starts to air-punch the space around her head and shoulders, fighting the air surrounding her. She doesn't flinch, looking back down at the file in hand. 

"How far did they get?" Ra's turns to demand, looking to Jason, also not blinking at his unprofessional behaviour. 

Jason continues to jump around Talia, making cartoonish punching sounds. "Barely through the first barrier of defence." He shrugs in between swipes. "We got all of them; two are in the dungeon alive for interrogation, so we'll have the name of the leader soon."  

"We need to find out what inspired this and show dominance," Talia decides, looking at Ra's. Losing interest already, Jason abandons his place by her side and moves over to him instead, folding his arms and leaning them across the top of the elder man's chair. 

"I wanna give you a haircut," He mumbles, letting a hand drift down to brush through the top of Ra's head. In an incredible show of patience, Ra's calmly brushes his hand away and ignores the comment, instead answering Talia. 

"Public executions are in order, I will not have such disrespect shown to me on my own land." He agrees, which Talia hums at firmly. 

"Once Jason is finished with interrogations we'll act swiftly, before this can get any bigger." 

"Does this mean I can go back to training?" Damian's voice suddenly pipes up, also sounding supremely bored from behind the camera, and Jason looks over instantly. He spots the camera and sticks out his tongue playfully. "I don't like meetings." Damian complains.

"Apologies, habibi." Talia directs in his direction, tone softer. "But while there are any risks of uprisings at all I would prefer you to be around either myself or your brother for maximum safety. You'll be staying with me while your brother works on finding the idiots that attacked us."

Damian huffs, and Jason grins across the table, starting to jig his head backwards and forwards, somewhat chicken-like. He stands up straight, stepping away from Ra's chair, and starts to move his shoulders as well; dancing to music not present. Talia finally turns to Jason with at least some level of acknowledgement of his behaviour, and she sighs heavily. "And Jason, please take your medication."

Jason pauses, looking offended, and his arms slump downward abruptly. "How do you know I haven't?" He whines. Damian snickers behind the camera, and the clip cuts out.

*as Alfred walks into the kitchen to make himself a cup of tea*

Damian, sitting on the kitchen counter: -I'm just saying it's not uncommon that women eat the placenta after giving birth.

Tim, cross-legged on the floor below, looking up at him pensively: ...did Talia eat her placenta with you?

Damian: ...i don't even know if i had a placenta. i was designed, not born, remember? *notices Alfred* oh. hello Pennyworth.

Tim, glancing over: 'sup.

Alfred, calmly reaching for the kettle, trying to remain positive about the conversation: good afternoon, boys.

Tim, turning back to Damian: are you saying Talia actually chose for you to be like this?

Alfred, confidence instantly wilting: *sternly* Timothy.

Tim, ignoring him completely, grinning up at Damian: you're like her version of macaroni art.

Damian, shooting Tim a half-lidded face of judgement: Jason came up with more creative versions of that insult when he was still zombified by the pit. i hope you're proud of yourself.

Tim, whining: -hey, Jason grew up on the streets, he's fluent in street banter! i think i do pretty well as an isolated rich kid without siblings or friends.

Alfred: *opens the cupboard for tea and. freezes.*

Damian: how come you can use your upbringing as an excuse for how you are but when i do it i'm 'a real issue'?

Tim: *snort* because you use your upbringing as an excuse for killing people.

Alfred, voice weary: ...boys.

Tim and Damian: *look over at him*

Alfred, slowly reaching in and bringing out a large glass jar filled with clear fluid, submerging what is clearly a human organ: do either of you care to explain what this is... and why it's in my tea cupboard?

Damian, swinging his legs: *blinks slowly* oh. that's Timothy's spleen. i won it from my grandfather in a game of online chess and he overnighted it from the compound. *pause* and i put it in the cupboard because Father was here a few minutes ago and he doesn't like looking at our organs.

Tim, head snapping over to Damian and narrowing his eyes suddenly: won it in- you said you snuck over and pulled off some great big fucking heist! you little- *abrupt pause*

*a beat*

Tim: you beat Ra's at chess?

Damian, blankly: mother designs her macaroni art to be good at strategy games.

Alfred: *looking at the jar in abstract horror*

Damian: -anyway, back to the original topic; Timothy. women eat the placenta all the time. how is this different?

Alfred: *whispering* why is his spleen outside his body?

Tim, back to being pensive: i dunno Dames... it might make me sick. i'm suspectable to that now.

Damian: well maybe this will fix that! look, it was already in your body; i don't see how putting it back in there could be bad in any way.

Tim: well yeah- but it's different when the entrance to it going inside being used is my mouth.

Damian, making a face: what do you want me to do then, put it up your ass?

Tim: i don't know why we have to do ANYTHING!

Alfred: *still staring at the jar*

Damian: i'll season it really good, i promise.

Tim, mouth twisting uncertainly: mmm......

*Duke walks in, glancing up from his phone*

Duke: 'sup fuckers. -and Alfred. Alfred isn't a fucker. love you Alfred. what's going on in here?

Tim, bitterly: Damian's trying to peer pressure me into eating my spleen.

*a beat*

Duke: *squints* is it not inside you already?

Tim: *points at jar*

Duke, calmly: ...huh.

*another beat*

Duke, looking down at Tim: what are you waiting for? do it pussy.

Damian: *grins in triumph*

Tim:

Alfred, eyes still not able to be dragged away from the jar: ...i think we need to update your medical records, Master Timothy.

Tim, wrapping his arms around himself on the floor: -and i think i need compensation. i only just got used to having older siblings, and now i have two younger ones. and they both want me to suffer. this is an entirely different ballgame. i'm in danger.

Duke: i'll get the paprika.

Alfred, not believing him for a second: oh he asked you to? did he?

Tim: YES.

Damian: *groans, slowly turns over and limps to his feet* ok now go for the other kneecap, i want to see if one is stronger than the other- oh.

Damian, bruised to hell and back: hello Pennyworth.

*silence*

Alfred, turning around and walking away instantly: *faintly* i swear it's no different to when Jason and Dick were younger. no different.

*Steph and Cass engaging in a stand-off in the middle of the cave, staring at each other, while Tim watches gleefully from the batcomputer*

Alfred: ...what is going on here?

Steph, holding a notebook and pencil: this is ridiculous. i don't care how much you learnt about body-language, you're not a mind reader.

Cass: *shrugs, smiling*

Steph:

Steph, stubbornly: do it again.

Cass, tilting her head upwards: think of a number.

Steph, eyes narrowing: *furiously scribbles on notebook, hiding her movements from Cass* ok. if you're such a telepath, what number did i write down?

Cass: *narrows eyes*

Tim: *leans over from behind and squints* *holds up three fingers*

Cass, humming: three.

Steph:

Steph, slamming the notebook down: FUCK.

Alfred, watching her storm out of the cave: ...was that really necassery?

Tim, gleeful: nah, but we've been doing it for weeks and it's not stopped being funny yet.

Alfred:

Alfred: just...

Alfred, sighing: just remember to put the bloody clothes in the right hamper when she finds out and beats you up.

Okay I know there’s a lot of fics and headcanons out there where Dick is born in Europe or whatever because of the circus and he doesn’t speak a lot of English when he goes to live with Bruce? Well I was thinking abt it and what if we flip it

Haly’s Circus has ties to the Court of Owls, so wouldn’t it make sense if they were in Gotham/the US more often? To check up on their potential Talons? Especially their new Gray Son. There’s no way they’d let him be born too far from them.

Dick is born at Gotham General, just like his father. And yes, he does learn to speak a couple other languages from his family and the others in the circus, but he’s American. They tour in Europe maybe every other year. He mostly speaks English, but he also knows French from his mother and maybe hes halfway fluent in Italian because his Aunt Karla speaks it to him and his cousin (I had a headcanon a while ago that she was from Italy but I don’t remember why? But it’s fun if he knows like the swear words specifically in Italian). He knows the swear words in several languages, but he can’t actually hold more than a basic sentence in more than maybe 2-3 languages total at this age.

So when he’s 8 and goes to live with Bruce after his family dies, he doesn’t understand why the public seems to think he doesn’t speak English. There are socialites and interviewers who say as much to Bruce, about how hard it must be to raise a foreign circus orphan, how do they even communicate?

“I was born in fucking Gotham,” this little eight year old spits at them.

Bruce is also one of those people who can’t help but laugh when kids swear, so he’s just sputtering and choking back a laugh as he ushers Dick away from the cameras.
