So I’ve been thinking this for awhile but want to put it out there: Vigilantes is the superior HeroAca content, and it is almost entirely because of it’s smaller cast, and setting.

Vigilantes has 3 main characters, and those characters have about 5 major side characters who revolve around them, and that simplicity and growth makes its characters, and thusly its character BEATS hit harder than My Hero’s.

I like Uraraka but it’s hard for me to really sympathize and feel for her scenes when she’s so consistently sidelined or overshadowed; there’s not enough connection to her to make her stand out. I was crushed during the ‘this could of been our future’ scene.

Even the main characters are like this. For all of Midoriya’s page time I feel like I barely know his stance on a lot of things, whereas I feel like I get Koichi.

The setting has this problem to; UA is a massive school full of mob characters (and 1b) so when it gets invaded its shocking, but not too much so especially as its early in the series. Otherwise the serious arcs take place in areas we know nothing about with no one we care about. Generic cities across the region with no one to anchor us home. The exception to this is the school festival which, for as much as other people disliked it I loved it. No matter how trite the reason Midoriya fighting to protect his friends’ peace resonated after the hard work we saw preceding the event.

Naruhata is a living place full of characters we know and have seen change, and when it’s in danger those people we’ve seen are in danger. They’re not random civilians, one-off heroes (usually), or singular victims. They’re the Narufest gang. The VF restaurateurs, Makoto, Pop’s fans. 

In HeroAca an entire city is decimated to my apathy, in Vigilantes a small district being terrorized has my full attention.

As well most of them know of how corrupt their society truly is or how the justice system they uphold has failed

The terms are accurate since most of the heroes have no emotional connection to the villains beyond loathing for what they did during the war arc

I’m not saying that the villains don’t need help but to expect the heroes to do so is wrong on so many levels

Just because one has a sad backstory does not excuse their actions

Just because Dabi was gaslighted when training under Endeavor doesn’t excuse the people he’s killed

Just because Toga was forcefully deprived of blood which he body required as sustenance due to her quirk and suffered a mental breakdown doesn’t excuse the people she’s hurt and killed

The villains have mercilessly killed people without hesitation and in plenty of situations when they didn’t need to

They have never shown remorse for what they’ve done or care for the people who’s lives they’ve ruined

How many families have they destroyed that weren’t involved in the conflict and merely caught in the crossfire as heroes tried to save and protect them while the villains had no care for them

And this is coming from a guy who loves villains (even the ones that don’t deserve a redemption [so long as they are written good]) and I think these guys don’t deserve redemption despite the clear set up for that

So much of what they said during the war arc is insanely hypocritical due to their actions and what they’ve done

Do I hate LoV? NO

But they did so much crime, so much killing without a second thought and show no regret...fics can do the redemption arc better. Here’s something that needs to be stated before I continue

The fandom has mixed up believing fanon to be canon and in some cases vice versa

Aizawa in fanon is a guy who cares about his students and wants them to be able to survive

Aizawa in canon constantly threatens expulsion and falls asleep in class and the only student he has ever helped wasn’t even in his own class

Bakugou I don’t even need to get into

And this can easily be said for the villains

Dabi in fanon wants to free his family from Endeavor’s grasp

In canon he wants his father’s attention

Toga, Spinner, Twice, Mr Compress are all victims of this as well

Tomura is a prime example of this

People perceive him as his own agent with his own thoughts and rightful anger towards hero society

But in canon we weren’t shown a hero rejecting helping him but a civilian old woman

No one knew of Kotaro’s abuse that he pulled. On his family

All Might and Gran Torino were requested by Nana to not look for her son and that was one of her dying requests before her death at the hands of AFO

Nana put her son up for adoption because AFO found where she lived and killed her husband

Her greatest enemy knew where she lived

She didn’t have a choice with putting her son up for adoption if she wanted him to survive

People have these misconceptions On Tomura’s backstory and why he’s so angry

That anger is so prevalent and giant because of AFO’s manipulations of him and just everything that he did to him because AFO wanted Tomura to be so angry in order to try and take One For All

Tomura has never been an independent agent but a puppet of AFO who has finally taken full control of all his strings

Another: therapy or admit your have a psycholoigc problem is not seen with good eyes in Japan. So...doubt all heroes woule receive trainjng to deal with therapy sessions.

A big part of what makes these upcoming redemptions so unbelievable can be attributed to a few factors which I will name

Tomura has only just recently begun displaying a want to be free from All For One and it was incredibly shoehorned in with no buildup

Dabi’s motivations to being a villain in canon doesn’t really show any possibility of redemption given he apparently killed people just to get his father’s love and attention

Toga while clearly still suffering the after effects of the mental breakdown brought upon due to her being denied blood hasn’t shown any sort of remorse in what she’s done or even any hint that she’s begun to break free from the effects of the mental breakdown due to all the blood she’s been drinking

Does Spinner even know that Stain was never a part of League?

Now even with these motivations there was still a possibility for redemption if they simply showed hesitation, doubt in what they were doing, wondering if maybe they truly were the villains that society was calling them, fear that they were becoming what they hated most

But we got none of that

Redemption cannot work when there isn’t anything there to redeem in the first place

Spinner is not important for Hori...he likes to pretend otherwise for the fans but... tell me this: what is the name of spinner's mom? What he did before join LoV? How he heard about LoV?

Shiggy wanted to be free of AFO was ...a natural reaction and the last minute, if someone start using your body, literally, you would want to be far away from this person.

Also why people created this shiggy that wants to defend the little men? Why give this...to a villain who has said more than once. "I want to destroy everything"

If he was still a gremlin would the fandom still think he is a revoutionary?

It has never been stated that Izuku even knows that Kotaro exists let alone Nana’s grandson

Bakugou’s redemption made no sense when it began and continues to make no sense now that it is apparently over being marked off with his so called apology since nothing has changed about from how he acts towards everyone, how he treats Izuku, to his motivations to becoming a hero

I’m not even going to begin to talk about DFO because that’ll be a rant and a half

TogaOcha doesn’t work in canon because Ochako has no emotional relation to her

Did they use to go to school together?

Where they neighbors?

Cousins!?

Is Toga somehow Ochako’s big sister despite having never been mentioned!?!?

Literally no one knows and the fact that she suddenly wants to save her has come so far out of left field that it has caused just a giant crash on highway plot and then proceed to create a giant sinkhole

Bakugou did almost kill Izuku or do those people forget during the first training arc back in Season One when Bakugou used his gauntlets despite being warned that they would kill Izuku

Also Ochako’s only apparent rival to Izuku’s affection is *checks notes* no one because despite her being the endgame love interest for Izuku he hasn’t had anyone crushing on him aside from Ochako and Toga and one of them is a serial killer

Izu may not even know shiggy is tenko. And if someone say "someone told him off screen" that would be so ...lame. imagine if in Star wars we never got the iconic moment of "Luke, I'm your father" and it happens offscreen!

The whole shiggy is tenko revelation was hushed and left no impact. I mean, no impact for Zuzu...AM is sure devastated for that but the story is about Izu.

Redemption arc needs to have the abuser realise his mistake. Bk is uncable of being remorseful for anything. And funny enough, he...a supposed hero in training has tried to kill Izu more than shiggy.

Before the whole war arc...shiggy...never tried to kill him and alway called him by the name Izuku Midoriya. A signal of respect.

Toga and Ochako? Rivals of love...my theory is that NOW Hori wants to stabilish Izuocha. If Izu will save Shiggy...Ocha will save Toga....they will match.

I mean a true shipper wont let incest stop them...but it would be funny if Toga is related to Ochako...that would raise some questions.

also may i mention that tomura was NOT the first subject for afo's new body? there were at least six before him, and we get to meet and know one of them in-depth in the prequel

y'all acting like the villains are irredeemable when the whole main villain cast outside of afo were literally oppressed by society/heroes as a kid. it's pretty damn clear that heroes aren't the good guys - in vig, once again, endeavor attempts to murder an underage girl who's been possessed by a villain without remorse, and then tries to murder the vigilante who stops her. there are plenty of heroes with blood on their hands - look at nagant! are we gonna acknowledge that it's hero society that creates villains?

it doesn't matter how damn corrupt hero society is - villains deserve a chance to be rehabilitated and human conditions in prison, not being treated as inhuman or being murdered for anything from serial murder to simply arson while having a powerful quirk. the main plot of this franchise is, at it's core, everyone deserves a chance to be saved

the world of mha, and the way it's come to define the good guys and bad guys, is exactly why tenko, touya, himiko, and every other villain has suffered their abuse. so while there's blood on their hands, and i definitely agree that excusing them of all of it is bullshit, you can redeem a character and have them still take the punishment (i.e. life on parole). it's not impossible

also joking about a ship becoming incest that doesn't have potential of being pedophilia and has no proof to even possibly relate the idea that these people are related in any way other than being of the same species? you're all so fucking gross
