hey uh this is unsolicited hate of authors who are doing their best. please dont be a jerk about someone's writing just because it's a ship you dont like. the audacity to screenshot and post someone's well-intentioned effort that doesn't actually appear to be that bad is insane, especially considering it was completely unprovoked. ao3 doesn't have a dislike button for a reason.

It's BAD, and the lack of any criticism in the arts and literature is what perpetuates this kind of bad writing/dialogue. Humans who "speak English" are fucking barely literate nowadays and we are in a literary crisis. No one seems to care to ask for honest and fair editing critique. Even if it was put more kindly like so

It's hard for me to imagine these lines falling out of an American teenager's lips, because American teenagers do not speak like this/end their sentences with "my love"/"love", especially when they're about to fuck. No one does.

y'all children would have a problem with it because you've been conditioned to fear discomfort, and rejection of ideas/being told that your writing needs work is an uncomfortable blow to one's ego and self-esteem.

So you reject unsolicited criticism of all types, and the damn literacy crisis gets worse and worse and worse until people begin to hype the worst, most empty, ego-stroking and ultimately meaningless creations that Hollyweird churns out.

Be glad that the only people seeing that shit are you guys, since I didn't expose any author's names or the title of this assterpiece. I don't think anyone's who doesn't like Wyler is going to go looking for the fic, and even if they did, so the fuck what? Free hits. I don't even remember its fucking name.

P.S. I know that sometimes I suck at what I'm trying to convey too. I don't care about any crit I get back, though I'm more liable to take it when it's reasonable criticism. How much of that is there around? Hardly any. It's always moralizing around the age gaps, or "uR a pEd0fiLe!" ad hominems.

there's a big difference between actual feedback with the purpose of helping someone improve and straight-up bullying. this isn't about anything other than that. regardless of ship or fandom or anything, if the author wanted feedback they would have asked. they almost certainly didn't want to be dragged publicly online, whether username is included or not.

i absolutely see your point that criticism is valid and necessary to improve, and sometimes people's writing ABSOLUTELY needs it. i just don't think that it warrants targeted rudeness. i think that your critique would likely be met more reasonably if it didn't appear so pointed and mocking towards the writer. there is a literacy crisis in america, so why discourage people actively trying to engage with the written word? why make them feel like any contribution they make will be mocked? your feedback, as you phrased it more politely in your follow-up, makes sense and, honestly, i do kind of agree. i just think that if people wanted advice, they would ask for it, and unsolicited feedback is rarely given attention.

i must make myself clear here. obviously it's none of my business what you post on your blog. free speech, and all that. but fandom is intended as an uplifting space, and my point of contention with you is only that the fact that you included a screenshot and a verbatim quote could easily make its way back to the author and affect them in a severely negative way.

hope this makes sense. no hate against any of your beliefs. just please don't make fun of people's hard work on the internet. it's not cool.
