What being unplugged has taught me
Its been too long since I have last written on here. I went in a bit of hiding from my alter ego - UhnGaya. You see, most of the times when I write to you it comes from a place deeper than my thoughts. It comes from my higher self. It is not consistent in the sense that every week I will have something for you. When it comes, I will know and I will write it.
In the past few weeks, I have had to work in front of my computer a lot. For 10-12 hours a day... 7 days a week. Trying to catch up with my work. When you spend that much time in front of a screen you get lost into this cyber world where the real world ceases to exist. Of course, during my time working I had things like Facebook and Twitter open because that is how I would connect with my "cyber co-workers". While doing this I ignored what was really around me. The changing of the leaves, my cats, my husband... my... gasp... hygene. I was in a cyber bubble. Whenever my husband came around to talk to me or was just in the same room I would get SO mad at him. I would snap and make him leave.
No amount of work is worth pushing away those you love and allowing yourself to be lost in front of your screen. I felt this gush of sickness coming from within. I was physically sick of my computer. The thought of being in front of it would make me sick to my stomach. I knew I had to snap out of the bubble I had created. I took a much needed day off. The next day I only worked 6 hours tops. Since then, I have decided to "unplug" from the Internet. I have turned off the internet on my phone. I don't want to see tweets, facebook notifications, e-mails nor instagram updates. Nothing. I don't want to see it. I told my husband and family I was unplugged. If you need to get ahold of me, text or call me.
I have learned a lot from doing this and while I can feel my addiction urging me to reconnect with the internet, I have learned that while I used to be on my phone, now I am appreciating what is around me. I am appreciating a good tv show instead of checking facebook and missing out the program itself. I am actively paying attention to my husband during dinner instead of instagramming my food. I am trying to make a conscious effort to read and spend as much time away from my computer as I can. I am trying to get my daily load of work done with minimal distractions, this way I only spend 6-8 hours in front of a computer instead of 10-12. It is amazing how technology can suck the living life out of you. What are you ignoring because you are putting your phone, tablet, or computer first? Its scary to think about.
Yes, I still do get on social media but I try to regulate it. I have been checking it every 2-3 hours for 10 minutes at a time. I have really been enjoying not getting lost in the world of social media when my own life is happening around me now, outside of the electronic screen. I hadn't even realized how much the leaves had changed until I was outside of my home yesterday. I missed all of that by being in front of my screen.
I am sharing this video with you to highlight exactly what I am talking about. I found it today, the irony of it.
In Love and Light,
UhnGaya :)
