That’s the problem with memory bound by emotion. Love is diffuse. It so easily becomes entangled in every aspect of the human experience. Extracting it with any amount of elegance can get…dicey.

I do get a kick out of imagining that post-Popular, once Glinda has stolen Elphaba’s glasses, Elphaba’s just stumbling through the entire rest of the story half-blind. Like how many trees has she accidentally flown into? How many times has she followed the cries of a baby Monkey and tried to rescue it from being captured only to find that the baby Monkey was actually a baby human she just straight-up snatched out of its mother’s arms and ran away with? How many times has she misspelled a word during her sky-writing escapades and accidentally written something egregiously bigoted? How many times has she just wandered through a town bumping into shit and flailing around to catch herself and everyone’s like ohhhh she’s so scary and violent and dangerous always casting evil spells under her breath you never know what she’s gonna do next, and she’s just tryin to find where she parked her broom stubbing her toe muttering through gritted teeth I. Can’t. Fuckin. See. Shit.

And it’s actually really terrible because if you think about One Short Day all the tumblr gays were like awwww it’s so cute how she and Glinda have their arms looped the whole time, look at them in constant physical contact they’re so in love - um, no, actually, Elphaba can’t see two feet in front of her, she is clinging to Glinda for dear life so she doesn’t fall flat on her face in front of the Wizard.

Defying Gravity? Absolutely no idea there’s twenty armed guards tryin to kill her. She thinks maybe two or three. She grossly underestimated how much peril she was actually in. 

Visiting Nessa? Completely missed all the signage indicating that Nessa sold out the Munchkins as second-class citizens in order to keep control over Boq. Didn’t know that was happening.

Tin WoodsBoq post-transformation? Looks about the same as when she first met him at Shiz, right? Yeah, he’s…yeah, he pretty much looked like that. Four limbs and a face? Close enough.

Wonderful? Really did assume she was landing on the Wizard’s balcony, thought it was a bit odd he was wearing a wedding dress.

ALAYM? Kinda thinks Fiyero’s making an insensitive crack about her eyesight when he talks about seeing through different eyes and - oops, castrated him in No Good Deed, couldn’t read the warning label.

For Good? Thought she was talking to Chistery the whole time.

Like as if this woman’s life isn’t difficult enough already, she’s trying to fight fascism while squinting. 

And as always, this is all Glinda’s fault.

what is your stance on the “gelphie is one-sided” discourse… as in elphaba doesn’t feel the same. idk what you all are seeing but movie!elphie is head over heels in love with that weird blonde girl imo

yeah ig i see why some people think gelphie is one-sided or that glinda loves elphaba more than elphaba loves glinda but i personally don't agree and rebuke that energy

this is the elphaba who threatened to drop out of college for galinda before they even really became friends. the elphaba who looked at galinda like this when she called her beautiful

movie elphaba saw the "i hope you get your heart's desire" note and immediately asked glinda to come with her to the emerald city. she kept that note for all the intermission and was borderline hallucinating her and glinda in that poppy field. the same elphaba who couldn't resist flying to glinda's balcony on the night of her wedding just because she missed her so much, who was ready to give up all of her morals for the chance to be with her again

i think most of the "gelphie is one-sided" takes come from the fact that elphaba didn't tell glinda she was alive, but personally i see this as her greatest act of love. a lot of people interpret it as her "choosing" fiyero, which i find really dumb and male-centered because she would've made the same choice whether or not straw boy was in the picture

like by the time of kiamo ko elphaba has just watched most of her loved ones die horribly and has crippling guilt over that because she believes it's her fault. and here comes glinda offering to throw herself in front of a mob for elphie. and elphaba's can't bear the thought of glinda getting hurt because of her

elphaba knows atp glinda won't let the lies and demonization continue and would do anything in her power to try and save elphaba. but after losing most everyone else, elphaba can't let that happen to glinda, and she can't bear the thought of glinda ruining her life on her behalf. so she fakes her death so that glinda can't make that choice, and so that glinda can live a happy life in oz doing the good that elphaba couldn't

she also gave her bf glinda's eyes cuz fiyero's eyes are blue until the scarecrow transformation, where they turn brown. and he's talking about "seeing through different eyes" and later elphaba tells glinda "look at me. not with your eyes--with theirs" implying glinda's eyes are the eyes that see her as beautiful

so basically yeah. elphaba is in love with glinda. it's quite bad. dire, actually. she can't be saved

lolz I really appreciate that appraisal thank you. Yeah uhhhhh somethin wrong with me. Total sleeper agent situation there, like the childhood obsession lay dormant for too long and once it finally got activated again it just took over the whole brain and made me all weird. Glad you liked the post though lol, I had a stupidly fun time making it.

So the crocodile is being a bit of a dick if I’m honest!! Like I think I’ve finally got her on the ropes, but she’s had my leg chomped between her teeth for like weeks now fucking up my pacing, like this is a MOTHERfucker of a plot-heavy chapter and I’m thinking I might have to end up splitting it in two otherwise it’s just gonna be this like clunky juggernaut of crazy in both the past and the present storylines. I’ve basically got two more scenes to write before this chapter is done, at which point I’ll be able to decide for certain whether it needs to be split in two or not, but unfortunately the two scenes in question are like…..grhdlaskjdhf sooooo much happens in both of them. So we’ll see.

I know better than to give an exact date, but my sincerest hope is that I’ll be able to update sometime next week. No promises! But that’s the goal 💖

She will not unfortunately! I didn’t even look at tickets tbh, I am currently in the “prioritizing groceries and rent to survive” money bracket, and Ari is neither a food nor a roof over my head (too short) so she didn’t qualify which sucks. Like first of all I’d just love to see her live and it sounds like this might be her last tour, but also on a purely superficial level….I saw someone post pics of some merch at her shows and there’s a keychain that says “I got my lobotomy at Brighter Days Inc” and I. Want that. For no reason at all.
