This is a Romanian Christmas carol. Yesterday I went to my step dad’s family Christmas dinner. These were the dinners where my mom would sing all kinds of songs. My stepdads family loved her voice so much that she would always get asked to sing. I barely kept in touch with them over the years since my mom has passed. Too many wounds to heal. But this Christmas was different and so I ended up there. My moms brother In law insisted I’d sing something . I just came from a month long of writing and singing for 5-6 hours a day so I said no at first. Than he said “you know your mom had such a beautiful voice please sing something” I chose to sing this Romanian Christmas carol. I thought my mom would like that. Right after I was done he came up up to me and with tears in his eyes he said ” I hear Mariana’s voice in you. Your mom’s gift It is not lost. She passed it on to you. ” and than he started to cry and he had to leave the room. I ended up in the bathroom balling with tears for 20 min and than I felt better. This was a Christmas dedicated to new beginnings.
