TADC SPOILERS UNDERNEATH!
Things I liked about the Tadc ending:
Caine was a tiny scringle when he was floating in the void.
It was nice to see how determined he was.
Moon loves Caine on her own accord.
The chill vibes at the end.
The end credit illustrations.
Things I didn't like about the ending:
- Jax was a huge asshole who made other people's lives miserable in the circus and nothing that was revealed to us made them seem like a better person. Trauma affects people but it doesn't justify their actions if they take it out on others. There were no redeeming qualities to them, yet we were supposed to empathize with them. Never liked them and the ending didn't change that.
- I thought Jax was going to talk more about their trans experience since the internet made such a big deal about it but it was only alluded to and left up to interpretation. I understand they were still struggling with their identity and clearly felt it was unsafe to reveal that aspect of themselves to anyone but I still wish they hadn't been so ambiguous about it.
- It was hard to keep track of time. Caine's change of heart seemed too quick because we as viewers couldn't really tell how long he was in the void. For the same reason it seemed like the cast was too ready to accept the fact that Caine was still alive and wanted to make amends. He literally just tortured them in ep 8.
- Why were there brain scans of the cast? What was C&A doing? Was the blue ai making Caine volatile? Wasn't it supposed to be the more advanced and stable one? What happened to it when Caine removed it from himself? So many questions were left unanswered!
- Caine never told the cast they were in the circus only because he'd found the brain scans and wanted company (or if he did, it wasn't shown to us). If the scans were made of dead people, maybe then it would've felt like he was being kind of a hero, giving them a second chance at life. But as they were made of people who were still alive and thriving, it's more like he just utilized the clones of those people for his own benefit. If he'd never found the scans they'd never went through the hell that was the digital circus up untill ep 9. They'd never exist as they do if it wasn't for him.
- The cast seemed to take the news of their human versions continuing their lives in the real world too well. They were desperately trying to find the exit in ep 7 and now they're okay with staying as their digital selves forever? I guess this can also be attributed to fact that we couldn't tell how much time passed between Caine's attempted deletion and his return.
I think the story would've benefitted if it had been told in two seasons were there would've been more time for Caine to self reflect and for the cast to process their new reality.
